I have been really disturbed by this, and I think that when she says :

"In reality, it is probably the extreme powerlessness of these complaisant, identity-free foreign girls, who could never talk back even if they wanted to, that renders them such appealing members of a trade in which women are commodities"

she really puts her finger on what I have found most horrible about it. It really brings home the 'commodity' aspect of it when you think about these girls being imported for the sex trade.

i read it too. makes me think hard about having a DS and the responsibility of trying to raise him to be able to relate to women...

as with the "women shouldn't leave it too late to have a baby" issue and the "women get attacked when they're pissed" issue AND the "babies do best with mum" issue... someone needs to point out that the responsibility for a lot of these "women's" problems lies at least partially with men... good on CB for stating the obvious. needs to be stated over and over again in our secretly still-misogynist society...
