Bird flu passed on by smokers...?

any one else seen this?

Research published in the British Medical Journal online suggests a
strong link between the transmission of Bird Flu through cigarette
smokers. Fears are growing concerning the airbourne particles being
released into the atmosphere from a contaminated smokers lungs.

New evidence recently leaked from a Japanses SARS research unit
transpires that whilst Bird Flu alone is not transmissionable through
air bourne particles, an individual who in infected and smokes may be
resposible for a new strain of the virus. Denser air particles cling
to the virus in the victims lungs and are exhaled as a transmitable
virus. A 'passive smoker' then inhales the particles and can become
infected.

medical experts are due to meet this weekend to discuss proceedure regarding measures to be taken to reduce this threat. Possible solutions may to ban smoking in all airports and possibly in all public places effective immedietly. A statement is expected from the media in the coming days.

Internet hoax. Have checked the BMJ and it's certainly not there. Articles in the BMJ aren't based on 'leaked' research. Internet hoaxes often claim that 'medical experts are due to meet this weekend' and 'a statement is expected from the media'. And attempt to scare people witless. It's some saddo getting his kicks by frightening people.

Although it must be a newie as it isn't on the two hoaxbusting sites I've checked (hoaxbusters and snopes)...

there'll be loads of propaganda and scaremongering about this over the coming days/weeks

Most importantly, bird flu hasn't yet mutated to the point where it is passed from human to human - the people unfortunate enough to have been affected (150ish of whom half died) have been in very close contact with infected poultry.

The concern about bird flu is that if it does mutate to a form that can be passed from human to human it could be very dangerous. But it hasn't yet, thank God.

hoax! bird flu is passed from birds to humans by inhaling the bird's dried and pulverised waste products, drinking its raw blood or eating its guts raw, etc.

It is a hoax. As yet the bird flu has not mutated to be trasmisable through humans....you only get it from contact with a bird that has it.

dabihp · 14/10/2005 20:35

And you can find sites that will tell you that Elvis is still alive, that smallpox is still with us and that your doctor really wants to kill you.

It is a hoax.

There is the potential for a bird flu pandemic but this is a rather nasty hoax feeding of the media hype.

At the moment yu are in far more danger when you get in the car tomorrow
