How can 7 years for murder be acceptable?

Has this been done?

story here

A pissed up group of teenagers kick a man unconcious simply because he is gay. He later dies and they get 7 fucking years??? Only with time served in custody it's actually going to be less than three!

Life should not be this cheap, nor being drunk such a pathetic excuse.

Utterly repulsive, isn't it? I don't really understand sentencing at all, because I don't understand how you can take a life and ruin so many others and not suffer extensively for that. Perhaps they'll all be racked with guilt their life long.

winnybella · 26/01/2011 23:30

I guess it's because it wasn't premeditated Hmm, they are young...

Indeed, 3.5 years she will serve is nothing. The men got less, didn't they? Even though the one that knocked him to the ground was the one that actually caused his death.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 26/01/2011 23:33

Hideous crime.

Excuse me for a moment's pedantry, it was manslaughter not murder. I guessing that's a different set of rules.

Vile either way though.

It was unprovoked, she has previous, she/they showed no remorse afterwards (as seen on CCTV)- and they'll be back on the streets, probably no more remorseful but a little bit harder from prison in a couple of years.
Good god our system needs an overhaul.

Yes the man knocked him down, she repeatedly stamped on his face, and started the whole thing by screaming homophobic abuse.

You're right it was manslaughter. Should be murder though IMO.

the drunk driver that killed my cousin got 7 years. time in custody will reduce it. i dont think it is right either. 4 children without a dad and his partner now a permanently disabled single mum.

SpeedyGonzalez · 26/01/2011 23:42

Oh that is horrible, horrible. And 7 years is even the increased version of her sentence. Good gracious. That poor man. Sad

One thing I don't understand is how alcohol can be used to justify an attack. It is a relaxant, a mood uninhibitor. So this girl is basically violent-minded and when she gets drunk she lets it all out. And she's now actually got away with murder.

This is tragic. Sad

That's awful iloveit

it is awful as is the pitiful sentance for the murder you have posted about.

3 of my cousin's children were in the car aswell as his partner. all were seriously injured and all witnessed their father die. 7 years will not erase the physical scars no the memories of that day. but it will, in the eyes of the law, have absolved the killer of his sins. Angry.

SpeedyGonzalez · 27/01/2011 00:16

Sad for you and your cousin/ his family, Boo.

Don't see how her youth should protect her either: she is 19. Not a child, a young adult. She is old enough to vote, to drive a car, to get married- she should be old enough to understand the consequences of kicking a man lying unconscious on the ground. This is totally different from a child committing a crime they may not fully understand.

Nevereatyellowsnow · 28/01/2011 08:26

I was totally Shock and disgusted by this. Not only did she show no remorse, she bragged about what she'd done on facebook and by text message! I don't understand how the charge was only manslaughter and not murder, she kicked him in the head ffs!
