how is this able to happen?

2 young people, sentenced to death under sharia law for committing adultery. horrific news footage shown of both being stoned, then shot.
they refused to renounce their love for each other and died for it.

is it 2011? remind me.

didn't watch it, as i knew it would be too awful Sad

terrible, terrible, story..

scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 22:30

Because it is a medieval culture and human rights are ignored.

pascoe28 · 27/01/2011 10:46

Which is part of the reason why we are there.

FranSanDisco · 27/01/2011 10:50

It's not 2011 in Afganistan though, it's the dark ages.

It gives me the shivers, it is so inhuman.

We have a friend who is a very moderate muslim, and does not agree with this, however it seems to me that most moderate muslims will quickly say it doesnt represent them, but will not stand up to perpetrators?

Our friend always amuses me, he is Turkish and would quickly tell you he is a good muslim boy. However he lives in sin with his English girlfriend, drinks alcohol, doesnt do ramadan as his family donate to a charity for poor instead (according to friend a donation to poor exempts you), nobody has known him to visit a mosque, and on my DH's stag weekend had the full english with pork bacon and sausages.

bibbitybobbityhat · 27/01/2011 19:59

Where was the footage shown?

bibbitybobbityhat · 27/01/2011 20:25

I have no intention whatsoever of watching any footage, btw, would just like to complain to any news organisation that is showing it. Just to be clear.

nancy75 · 27/01/2011 20:28

I think it was on BBC last night, but only a bit of it was shown, crowd shots of men bevaing like wild animals baying for blood, they panned away while the stoning/shooting was taking place.

ThatVikRinA22 · 28/01/2011 00:34

i saw it on the ITV news and it wasnt shown in full, just the before and after - a warning was given out before the footage was shown about its content.

i think it should be shown to highlight the atrocities being carried out. maybe the more people realise that this is going on the more people will try to change things? (idealists long shot)

dont complain about the news being broadcast! i had no idea people were still being stoned to death, this news needs to be aired.

shouldnot how do you think moderate Muslims shod be standing up to the perpetrators. What do you think they should be doing?

methodsandmaterials · 28/01/2011 00:46

should not shod..
And yes, there's a question mark missing.
Bugger.

zozzle · 28/01/2011 10:11
