Dead birds fall from sky

Grim too.

But apparently about a thousand dead birds fell from the sky just before midnight on NYE.

What's the chance of that?!

How strange!

Time to break out the zombie plan?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/01/2011 15:25

There was a strong storm system that went through the area associated with a very marked cold front (a temp difference of almost 40F!) The storm produced a number of tornadoes, some of them strong. It is possible that the bird deaths were associated with this.
It is rather fascinating!

Scrumpet · 03/01/2011 15:25

OMG. That happened in flash forward Xmas Shock

Next thing you know we'll all go unconscious at the same time and see a vision of the future.

KalokiMallow · 03/01/2011 15:26

Does sound like the beginning of a horror movie/apocalypse movie doesn't it?

OP posts:
HeroShrew · 03/01/2011 15:28

must be a cloud of poisonous somethingorother floating around at bird-height. Ew.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 03/01/2011 15:32

It is flash forward. Wonder if it happened over Somalia too?

twirlymum · 03/01/2011 15:36

Said they hadn't been poisoned.

Very strange, I thought of FlashForward too. Does anyone know when it starts again?

Magna · 03/01/2011 15:40

As far as I know FlashForward was cancelled by the network Sad

nobiggy · 03/01/2011 15:44

Do you think they saw that coming?

Magna · 03/01/2011 15:48

Toughasoldboots - it was just before midnight - not after!

I think it's best to start eating the christmas chocolates, if we're going to be running away from Zombies or Aliens, then I'm going to need the extra calories...

twirlymum · 03/01/2011 17:58

Cancelled!!!!!!! I need to know what happened!!! Shock

twirlymum · 03/01/2011 22:41

Now 100,000 fish (all the same species) have been found dead near where the birds were found Shock

Magna · 03/01/2011 23:28

Ooooh entering the twilight zone

Chil1234 · 04/01/2011 07:43

There are recorded incidents where underground volcanoes have released highly toxic carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide gases into the immediate atmosphere. Lake Nyos in Cameroon is an example where the gases were trapped at a low level by mist, killing 1700 people in a nearby village plus a lot of animals and fish. Could be something like that.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2011 09:29

ok, well I'm still quite convinced that the birds got caught in a violent thunderstorm. The weather really was severe. (maybe a huge updraft that took them above survivable conditions, or a big lightning strike, or maybe the ended up in a tornado)

But the fish have me stumped. If it was lots of different sorts of fish I'd postulate a lightning strike (though I don't think lightning strikes normally kill fish as surely it would flash over the surface?) But one sort of fish? maybe some sort of fish flu.

KalokiMallow · 04/01/2011 14:12

That's nuts!

OP posts:
twirlymum · 04/01/2011 20:44

More dead birds, in Louisiana this time.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/01/2011 09:36

Sounding more like a virus perhaps then with it being the same species again? But even a virus wouldnt drop them all practically at the same time I wouldnt have thought.

JoBettany · 05/01/2011 15:01

I also thought the news said more dead birds in parts of Sweden? More than possible I misheard it. It is very, very odd.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/01/2011 15:35

yup here

I wonder how many mass bird deaths there are that usually go unnoticed?
