this is a lcoal school to me

dd's have had learning journals done throughout nursery and ks1. a big part of them is photos and little snippets of their day. Tere are sometimes children in the background who arent my own, or pics of dd's with their friends. they havent been blacked out at dd's schools. the school policy regarding photos is quite simply, dont put them on the internet if other children can be seen. which seems sensible.

Utterly stupid. I hate this criminalising of all of us out of a vague idea that maybe someone is going to exploit an image. Arrrrrgggh - it makes me so annoyed. In my DD's school there is no such ban and should it ever come in I would fight it vigorously and I am sure most parents would do too. Anyway this is so absurd.

If there is a child there who can´t be photographed for example, there should just be no pics at all.

It´s not as if the children aren´t recognisable, is it`?

Some search engines are beginning to explore facial recognition software, so pictures of children posted online will end up discoverable, especially if someone has a vague area to hunt through.

I think it should be absolutely taboo to post pictures of unrelated children.

There may be excellent reasons for not making specific vulnerability common knowledge (witness protection, escape from DV, other specific and verified threats).

It would be extremely unkind to exclude vulnerable families from activities (especially as that would serve to high-light them and completely undermine the protection they require).

In our school we sign a foem at the start of the year to allow children to be photographed /filmed during plays. I suppose no one ever decided to not allow their child to be photographed as everyone takes picture on school performences.

Might be a different issue if it was a trip to the swimmingpool but the school plays or school activities? quite ridiculous IMHO.
