Anyone seen this in the MAil today (read at work!!)

Seemingly government research has found that kids with middle class names like KAtherine and Duncan do 8 times better in school than Waynes, Dwaines etc..

Some teachers have said that PAiges are the worst girls of all and that the following names arose the following comments:

Adrienne (kiss of death - spiteful, sneaky or both), Alanna, Ashleigh, Britney, Candice, Chantelle (spawn of the devil), Chelsie, Chelseigh, Chloe (nasty, spiteful).

Cindy (always a pain in the a**e) Courtney, Cortnee, Cortnie (trouble), Danielle (a nightmare), Jade, Jodie, Jordan (pretty bad for a girl), Kayleigh (a pain), Keeley, Keira (live in fear), Kimberley, Kylie, Leanne, Leigh, Lou-Lou,

Mia, Paige, Poppy (hyperactive and not very bright), Stacey, Tyler (lesson disrupter).

And these are the boys' names that the teachers most fear: Ashley, Chayse, Conor, Connor (a nightmare), Curtis, Damon, Declan, Dillon/Dylan, Dwayne (a terror), Grant, Jordan, Josh (arrogant, nasty, selfish.

Kade, Kane, Kieron, Kyle (always spells trouble), Liam (always a bad lad), Mason (a horror), Mitchell, Myles, Painton, Rhys / Reece (a nightmare), Ryan, Scott (live in fear), Shane (a terror), Troy, Tyler (lesson disrupter), Wayne (a terror).

What do you think?

I mean Denim? Who is she kidding?

marthamoo · 23/09/2005 17:21

My Mum (primary school teacher) swears every Daniel she taught was naughty.

Personally I've never met a Louis who was well behaved.

I like the name Mia but there are three in ds2's pre-school!

colditz · 23/09/2005 17:30

All the Daniels in my school were really naughty. And the Jasons. I am 25 BTW

Jackstini · 23/09/2005 17:44

Well at least I know what to call my ds/dd when he/she arrives - just to make sure they are in the teacher's good books......
Have told my dh his name means he's a terror

jalopy · 23/09/2005 17:45

The name Billy.........

Nemo1977 · 23/09/2005 17:47

lol my sis is called danielle and a total pain in the ar%e. She was askedto leave 3 primary schools and 2 senior schools...so would have to agree with that bit..shes still a wild child now at 21.

Hulababy · 23/09/2005 17:50

I wouldn't consider all the names on that list chavvy at all.

Agree that some names do seem to spawn certain characteristics when at school though. Totally non scientific - but when choosing a name when I was pg there were names I steered away from because of knowing too many children with that name with negative vibes.

bubblerock · 23/09/2005 17:53

I have a Joshua and he's certainly not nasty, arrogant or selfish!! Pain in the ass maybe

mrsmoons · 23/09/2005 17:55

I know a chantelle with a son called dylan (and he IS the naughtiest boy in the class - apart from my ds who has a lovely biblical name!)
I liked the name dylan cos of dylan thomas and Bob Dylan but MY dh vetoed it too!! Must admit, I'm now relieved as have know several norty dylans!
I know another woman with kids called - Mercedes, Morgan, Miles, Morganna and er, for some reason, Lochlan

blueteddy · 23/09/2005 17:56

Jason's & Lee's were always naughty when I was at school!

happymerryberries · 23/09/2005 17:59

With the rider that this is light hearted and that it only takes one child to change your mind on a name.

Norty names

Jordan, Jake, Ryan, Shane

Courtney, Zoe, Charley, Stacey

Anything with a very odd spelling

The best and worst kids I have taught were both called Nathan.

I'm a Tracey, and seeing this makes me feel relieved that no teacher ever judged me purely on the name alone. I think it's very sad that children are being judged on their name before they've even had the chance to meet their teachers.

babster · 23/09/2005 18:04

Oh dear, I have a Daniel and a Ciara (proper Irish spelling of Keira). Yet dd1 - with the 'good girl' name - is far more difficult! Bloody Daily Mail - they're always mean to the Irish. My mother (DM reader) had to cast off some prejudices when I married dh.

WWB. I Honestly don't sit down with my class lists and decide who I am going to put down because of their name. I have better things to do with my time.

This is a way of letting off steam, of decompressing the stresses of the day. Rather like we have silly posts on mn to get rid of tension.

happymerryberries · 23/09/2005 18:08

Cod, all my lewises have been nice! And Why are Jakes harder work than Jacks? Nothing to do with 'chav'

Hulababy · 23/09/2005 18:09

Oh WWW I don't think anyone is being really serious about judging names. Thought it was a light hearted thread.

zippitippitoes · 23/09/2005 18:09

Of course the family surname rings alarm bells with teachers more

you only need to mention a few names in this twon and practically everybody recoils in horror presumably the same everywhere

Hmmm, now that rings a few bells!

It was the same when I was a kid, you all knew the nutcase families and stayed away from the kids if you wanted to avoid a kicking!

happymerryberries · 23/09/2005 18:11

You might be right about jack.....but Johns are always 'solid'. But Jonathans are a bit flighty

blueteddy · 23/09/2005 18:12

We had a really naughty Jack in our class last year!
