Bank holiday

Now, I'm the first one to say yippee to an extra day's holiday (royal nuptuals in case you hadn't heard)....

....but are the politicains who agree to this, those same politicians who rant and rave about how 'millions of pounds are lost' because of train strike days or snow days?

Am I right in thinking they're being a tad hypocritical?

2shoes · 23/11/2010 17:18

we will need a bank holiday to read all the threads moaning about this extra bank holiday

SpringHeeledJack · 23/11/2010 17:19

bet those lousy rotten mingy tories will take International Worker's Day off us this year to make up ferrit

SpringHeeledJack · 23/11/2010 20:11

oooh they haven't- we get a Friday and a Monday!

[excited]

WhyHavePets · 23/11/2010 23:38

No, they are being very clever.

We are in a time of crisis, doom, gloom, cuts, bad news...oh but suddenly we have a Royal Wedding and and extra day off work to distract us look forward to.

The timing of this wedding and the day off is totally political. as has been said for many years there is nothing like the royals to make us feel good when times are bad. [sceptical face]

huddspur · 23/11/2010 23:45

I don't get why we get a bank holiday for royal weddings and international workers day but we don't get one for St Georges Day

SpringHeeledJack · 24/11/2010 09:36

yes, whyhave, truly bread and circuses

...oh hold on a minute

just circuses Grin

WhyHavePets · 24/11/2010 09:48

It is so true though, it is in the air already, people who were talking about the cuts, what it means to them etc have let the Irish bail out go with barely a whisper because they are all talking about how lovely it is that he is finally getting hitched to such a lovely girl and speculating about flowers/cars/blah blah.

It makes my skin crawl, obviously I am happy for him but, honestly, this is the reason they haven't got rid of the Royals - in times of crisis they can be wheeled out to spread a bit of cheer amoungst the commoners [pah].

And I am not even an anti-royalist, I just think this is so transparent it is insulting!
