story here

I don't see how they can enforce it - how are they going to deal with mothers who can't bf their babies?? I'm sure some Indonesian women will still be subject to the physical problems that other women in the world have - are they going to be fined/imprisoned?

Either poorly reported or not well thought through.

And what are they going to do to babies who for some reason are poor at breastfeeding? Fine/imprison them?

Reading that, it doesn't seem that they will be trying to enforce this for each individual mother, but

  • making it mandatory for employers to provide facilities for feeding mothers, and

  • curbing the advertising of the formula companies, which some of the mothers cited as a reason they didn't bf exclusively.

Rather like the legislation here really.

Sounds good to me

"The law will have detailed steps on how companies must provide facilities for nursing mothers to breastfeed as well as to pump and store their breast milk," said Tari Tritarayati of Indonesia's Ministry of Health.

"It will also regulate milk companies, to ensure they don't give incentives to health care workers to push their products."

It will interesting in the future to see if it does make a difference to health.

Think that the Government should have adopted this before passing any new laws:

"Indonesia has also yet to adopt the International Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes, which regulates the milk formula industry by ensuring that its products aren't freely marketed to new and easily influenced mothers."
