I've got half a tank left and can't find any garages with any left

Anyone guess how long it'll be till things are back to normal?

the petrol blockades are due thursday which is what has sparked all this nonsense, hopefully back to normal by the w/end?

Moomin · 13/09/2005 14:14

when people stop panic buying and acting like sheep I guess!

foxinsocks · 13/09/2005 14:17

this sort of thing drives me maaaaaaaad

I can remember, as a child, all this panic about oil running out (in the 70s) and loads of programs on telly about people making cars that run on orange peel and chip oil. AAAAAAAarrrggghh

They have had to get a shop person from inside the petrol station to get the cars to line up nicely on the side of the road so that people form an orderly queue to fill up.

The folks at BP/Shell/Esso must just be rubbing their hands in glee. Hopefully it will all be back to normal by the weekend.

AnnieQ · 13/09/2005 14:17

But according to the hauliers, there aren't even going to be any blockades. They are picketing and they are doing "go-slows" on the motorways but they aren't stopping the petrol leaving the depots, and they aren't stopping it entering the forecourts.

JonesTheSteam · 13/09/2005 14:18

Just posted on the old thread so I'll join in - Garages round here selling out because people are being stupid and panicking and topping up - queues at every garage I passed this morning.

Hopefully will be back to normal by the weekend - my sister had her first baby yesterday morning and I would like to meet my new nephew this Saturday - currently only have half a tank left and my sister lives 3 hours away so will need a full tank to get there and back!!!

KBear · 13/09/2005 14:19

But if they are picketing the gates of the depot the lorry drivers probably won't cross it even without a physical blockade.

littlerach · 13/09/2005 14:24

You should all move here!!

Seriously, I sent DH out last night to put petrol in my car as it was on the red, and I didn't want to have to queue in the morning on the way to school. 15 mins later he came back, as there were no queues at all!!

ssd · 13/09/2005 14:27

littlerach where are you then?

I had to go this morning, my petrol guage was to the line. I went a lttle earlier (in the morning) than usual, and had to wait an extra 10 minutes. By the time I had got my petrol, paid and left the queue was three times as long.

I didn't get extra, just the usual

sharklet · 13/09/2005 14:31

DON'T PANIC!

lol I don't know. So far I have seen three petrol stations closed this mornign with no fuel. Its panic thats casuing it. There isn't even a blockade yet.

We really are like sheep......

princesspeahead · 13/09/2005 14:38

we have petrol all over the place. no queues no shortages. but it is varying from 96.4 - 101p per litre of diesel though

in wilts too, but north wilts. we wiltshire lot are obviously unflappable compared to the rest of you

NomDePlume · 13/09/2005 14:40

All my slocal Tesco station has left now is Diesel, and even that seems to be rationed.

littlerach · 13/09/2005 14:47

Yes, our prices are the same pPH.

Klara · 13/09/2005 14:51

There was an article this morning that sums thisup quite well....but can't remember which paper it was in now...drat

Anyway - the point is that normally most supermarket stations get 2 tanker deliveries a day. THEY STILL ARE. It's just that everyone is buying it up so fast that they are running out faster than normal. There WILL be more deliveries....

basically - this whole thing is becoming a self fulfilling prophecy!

Klara · 13/09/2005 14:53

Ok - am rubbish at links - it was in the times - but here are the facts
There are 10,600 stations in the UK
A supermarket sells 20m litres a year, 55,000 litres a day dueing a 16 hour opening, and has 2 tanker deliveries a day.....
Panic buying triples demand - 5400 people filling up their cars empties the pumps in 3 hours!
