Honestly. That would be about £75 per second.

Smile or £2012 for the opening ceremony (no races)

nancy75 · 15/10/2010 22:55

tickets for the opening ceremony are £2012!

DuelingFanjo · 15/10/2010 22:57

nope, though I did notice that you can watch some of the women's finals for less. Wonder why?

VivaLeBeaver · 15/10/2010 22:58

They couldn't pay me £725 to sit through it. Dull, dull, dull.

MaMoTTaT · 15/10/2010 22:58

nancy - yes for the best seats in the house.

irrc you can get the seats in the Gods for £50 for the super finals....where there are usually more than just one race happening.

I would pay £100 just to watch Usain Bolt running though Grin

SixtyFootGhooool · 15/10/2010 22:58

If i could afford it I would

Here's what I had in my email

1.A wide range of ticket prices including:

  - 90% of tickets at or below £100
  - Two-thirds of tickets at or below £50
  - 2.5 million tickets at or below £20
  1. Full-price tickets starting at £20 for every Olympic sport.

  2. A special ?pay your age? offer. Young people who are aged 16 and under (at 27 July 2012) will pay their age for a ticket. Seniors aged 60 and over (at 27 July 2012) will pay £16. These ?pay your age? ticket prices and senior ticket prices will be available at one-third of the 640-plus sports events.

4.Opening Ceremony tickets start from £20.12.

  1. The price of a ticket for a wheelchair space includes a companion seat located next to it.

And here's a link to the overall prices - so quite a lot for less than £725

I will be taking my DS's - hoping to get tickets to the preliminary Athletics - DS1 wants to watch some sprinting, DS2 wants to watch the hurdles

(FFS they've watched LOADS of different sports on the TV - Commonwealth and World's always on in this house, all the different events) - I showed them the list of sports/..

and posed the question

"so if you could choose ONE event you'd want to see what would it be"

and that was there answer - thanks guys - I was kind of hoping you'd go for a cheaper sport but never mind - I can start saving now Grin

Quattrocento · 15/10/2010 23:20

Yes, probably. Would be an unforgettable experience for the DCs. Was just looking into how to book.

MaMoTTaT · 15/10/2010 23:29

Quattro - tickets not actually available until March next year Smile

I'd love to go watch some Gymnastics.........but would probably have to palm the DS's off with their dad or something for the day as I think they'd be bored senseless Grin

Although if we do manage to get tickets for the preliminary Athletics that would be pretty cool too. I can't even begin to contemplate the super finals - as don't think the special kids prices apply to those >

Alambil · 15/10/2010 23:46

I'll go with you to watch the Gymnastics!

Mumcentreplus · 15/10/2010 23:52

Oh hell no!

MaMoTTaT · 15/10/2010 23:52

oooo Lewis - that would be cool.

none of my RL are at all interested in sports in any shape or form. I'm kind of the loner in that respect, well apart from Tennis, - I'll happily watch most sports on TV so I doubt any of them would want to accompany me.

Mumcentreplus · 15/10/2010 23:53

I have a feeling all those prices are for the nose-bleeds...

PortoFangO · 15/10/2010 23:58

I would never ever pay money to watch athletics as in my opinion tis dull. And you can see it better on TV if you like it.

I paid good money to see Robbie Williams at Knebworth. Did I see him, no. I saw him on a video screeen.

southeastastralbeing · 16/10/2010 00:02

no as it will be on telly

MaMoTTaT · 16/10/2010 00:03

no - the problem with Athetlics on the TV is they chop and change between various stuff that's going on at the same time.

So you'll be engrossed in the Pole Vault and they'll suddenly jump over to the Steeplechase, 'tis most frustrating.

I think most sports in general though are better to watch on TV - Tennis is much easier on TV imo.

BUT when in Zim I went to a FABULOUS Davis Cup tie between Zimbabwe and Austria \link{http://www.daviscup.com/results/tieresult.asp?tie=10000910\this one} - Muster was the 4th ranked player in the world at the time.

The atmosphere was just incredible. I was sooooooooo lucky to be able to go to all the matches as well (for free - the school I worked at had tickets)

Went to a live Man U v Newcastle Game a few years back as well, and despite not really liking football just being there was actually pretty cool. (for free - competition prize)

Paying to see Robbie Williams (whether on a screen or up close) - Confused - nope don't get it Grin

Questions about tickets, does anyone know the answers?

  1. Are the tickets only for named individuals, to prevent touts from buying up the lot 17 months in advance?

  2. What is the refund policy -- in case you buy and life interferes 16 months later so you can't go after all, are the refund fees on returns likely to be high?

  3. Will all tickets be on sale immediately or are some staggered to be sold over the year after March 2011 (so that people don't have to plan it out by March 2011? )?

  4. Is there a limit to number of tickets any one purchaser can buy, such as only 2 or 4 per transaction?

  5. If tickets are for named individuals... is it only one individual or could you maybe put several names on... was thinking that would be so much easier if you've got a crowd of friends or family who want to go but you don't want to have to commit so early to which of 4 or 6 interested people will actually attend. That'd be too clever and convenient, though, wouldn't it?

longfingernails · 16/10/2010 09:32

The cheap prices seem OK to me.

£20 for adults, the age of a child for children, £16 for pensioners, plus 250000 free tickets for schoolchildren who have "earned" them. So for a family of four with the children aged 10 and 5, £55. Not cheap but not outrageously expensive either.

I'm sure there will be a few millionaires glad to pay the £2012 for the best seats in the opening ceremony too.

Overall it seems like a reasonable mix of rates, though not really cheap enough to go on a whim. I wonder if the "mid-range" tickets (£50-ish) will really sell though? I just can't imagine paying £50 per person to go to a sporting event.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 16/10/2010 09:59

I would love to see the 100m final but no chance of paying that sort of money.

I really hope we can take the ds's to see some of the athletics though, they love watching it on the tv, as do I.

It's not going to be a cheap day out, but once in a lifetime, probably. Cant' wait!!

I am doing the London Marathon next year and suggested to dh that he takes the ds' to see the elite runners go past at some point. It's hard to grasp just how fast these people run from the tv, it really is amazing, the speed they go at. I don't think I am physically capable of running even 100m at the pace they go at for 26.2 milesBlush

hocuspontas · 16/10/2010 10:34

Yes, I received an email yesterday and am getting excited!

Looking at the provisional timetable I'd like a ticket to the opening ceremony, a mid-week gymnastics (1st week) and a mid-week athletics (2nd week). Hopefully you can book more than one event, it doesn't actually say.

Even up in the gods it will be great fun - just take binoculars!

MaMoTTaT · 16/10/2010 10:39

longfingernails - I'm sure those mid price tickets will sell.

I did some searching of some sporting events last night

Cheapest ticket to watch England v Samoa at Twickenham later this year - £40

To watch our local football team (league 2!) in a league match - cheapest tickets £20

World Championship Boxing in Glasgow - cheapest tickets £40

Our local (premiership) Rugby team in a league match - again cheapest ticets £40

It would seem that paying around £40/50 upwards for sporting events is pretty par for the course!

PuppyMonkey · 16/10/2010 10:50

I'd sooner stick knitting needles in my eye and chop my own head of than sit thru a minute of the boring old load of toss. Anyway, it'll probably be cancelled cuz the venue isn't finished.
