Would you pay £725 to watch the 100m final at London 2012?

Honestly. That would be about £75 per second.

We would like to go but once you've added in travle & accomadation for 5 people its getting silly money. Plus if we travel all that way we would like to see more than one event.

Still hoping BIL moves to a bigger house then we can stay with them!

Gorionine · 16/10/2010 11:00

Not all tickets are that highly priced and as Mammot said, the current price for sporting events does not often go under £20 which is what cheap prices for 2012 will be set at.

I would definitely not pay £2012 or £750 for it but some people would and thanks to these people being able to afford the "upper market" places, there will be more affordable places too for more modest people. If they had to find a medium price it would make the cheapest tickets much dearwer than proposed now and I assume even less people would be able to afford them.

cumbria81 · 16/10/2010 17:42

I am really disappointed by the prices quoted. They are so expensive Sad. When you factor in the cost of getting to London and accommodation it will make it really hard to attend.

PussinJimmyChoos · 16/10/2010 17:44

Noooo way

Unless of course, all the finalists were so hung that their appendages crossed the finish line minutes before their bodies did

This thread has inspired me to register my interest with the ticket website! Thanks! Smile

Lynli · 16/10/2010 19:13

I would pay that to have to.

nogwells · 16/10/2010 21:06

I registered interest some while ago and got the same email as IamTheLadyInRed. We definitely want to go although during the last olympics on the TV I really must admit I didn't seem to notice any small children in the spectators stand, did I just miss them?

We want to see the rowing and I would imagine we'd all be able to watch the marathon for free? (people in London anyway) By just standing round the course :) :)

Pootle78 · 16/10/2010 23:13

I went to the Athens Olympics in 2004 and must say the tickets were soooooo much cheaper. We paid £40 each to be at the 100m final and were sat with the long jump pit in front of us (probably the £295 prices for London). We were also lucky enough to be at the rowing when the British coxless 4 team won by no more than a gnat's a*se again £40 and we were sat 10 meters from the finishing line (probably the £150 ticket price for 2012)

I have been the biggest advocate of having the Olympics in London and had set aside money to be able to attend some of the events but the way things seemed to have been priced, I'll be spending the 2004 budget for accomodation, flights and tickets to Athens on just tickets for London! I know it's 8 years on but some of the prices are ridiculous!

We can't wait. Will definitely take DD to the cross country eventing and ideally would like to take her to some prelim athletics as well. Would take her to the finals but even given the higher prices I expect tickets will be like gold dust.

So proud that it will be in England and that DD will be 9 by then and will appreciate it for the rest of her life.

I'm pretty pleased with the prices. Loads of affordable tickets and the mega priced ones for corporate sales will hopefully mean that we, the tax payer, won't be too much out of pocket which is always a worry if they set the prices too low.

Butkin · 17/10/2010 00:43

Oh and I'm much more anxious about what dates the events will be on - anybody know when they max announce the schedules?

NoahAndTheWhale · 17/10/2010 00:47

Draft schedule is here - it says it will get finalised in March 2011.

maktaitai · 17/10/2010 00:48

There's provisional schedules on the www.london2012.com website butkin.

3thumbedwitch · 17/10/2010 00:51

No.

drfayray · 17/10/2010 10:58

When the Olympics were in Sydney, DH and I paid $1500 each to see the closing ceremony (plus $150 for babysitter as it was a long night). It was so worth it!

He also got to take DS to see some of the track and field events. A couple of hundred bucks as it was not the finals. DS enjoyed it so much as did DH.

I certainly enjoyed it!

telsa · 17/10/2010 11:23

I'd pay that much not to go.

oggybags · 17/10/2010 14:21

Think its a bit of a sensational title - as most prople have said plenty of cheaper seats - be pleased there are some more premium tickets available - obv got to be in a position to be able tyo afford it but I thought the'd have all been donated to 'sponsors' etc
we will defo try & get tickets for something - its a once in a life time thing
yes more than athens, but london / uk is more expensive that greece anyway
Most big concerts in UK start at £50 so its better value than I thought!
lets hope we win some golds!

itsatiggerday · 17/10/2010 15:45

BTW each ticket apparently also comes with a ticket for all zones on the Underground included for the day.

Also, ragged the tickets are supposed to come with a bar code which means the original purchaser is uniquely identified. If it's found being resold by a tout, I guess particularly at hugely inflated price, then the purchaser can be traced. They've also been buying up loads of domain names to try and curb black market resales and dealing with ebay etc to manage it. Sounds like they're being fairly proactive to manage it.

prettybird · 17/10/2010 18:34

For those for whom the London Olympics is too expensive/too far (in combination), you could always consider Glasgow in 2014 for the Commonwealth Games :)

duchesse · 17/10/2010 18:47

I'd pay about £15-20 for any one event. Affordable enough for pretty much anyone to go to an event they're really interested in, or to many if they have more cash. Ridiculous prices being bounced around for finals etc. Bloody market pricing structure= let's see how much we can squeeze out of the paying public mentality. It's meant to be about the Games ffs, not paying it all off in 2 weeks. If it's that expensive to run the games, then make it all less flashy. We still get to keep the infrastructure at the end.

ilovesprouts · 17/10/2010 18:50

no would i hell

notyummy · 17/10/2010 19:25

I can't wait and will be buying tickets - although cannot afford the top flight ones. Would love to see the gymnastics, diving and cycling - inc BMX. Plus wheelcahir rugby, which is an absolutely thrilling, no holds barred sport that I would commend to any sports fans to try and watch.

lottiejenkins · 17/10/2010 19:30

I'll be taking my son to the Paralympics........

Merlion · 18/10/2010 04:33

My Dad and brother are both athletics fanatics and I was subjected to years of watching it on TV and at minor events in the UK throughout my childhood (in fact DB has just returned from Dehli). My parents took us to Barcelona in 1992 when I was 16. We went to watch some of the athletics heats and managed to see some finals as well as marathon and race walking from the street. Even I have to admit that the atmosphere inside the stadium was fantastic and that it is sooo much better watching live events than on TV. I do hope though that they can fill the stadium for the heats as it was not packed when we went.

I find myself wishing we were in London but at the moment we live overseas and it is looking unlikely that we will be back by then and I can't justify the airfares for us and the ticket prices - although I don't think GBP50 is that unreasonable given the price of other sporting events. Plus DS will only be 4yo so not sure how much he'd enjoy it (plus whether he can learn to sit still for more than 5 minutes by then is still debatable)!

MiasmARGGHHH · 18/10/2010 04:55

We're Hoping to go to the opening ceremony and are going to spend a week In Weymouth when the sailings on.

It'll be buzzing! I hope we make a good job of it Grin

JinnyS · 18/10/2010 13:14

I'm glad the tickets are expensive because I wouldn't have gone even if they were free. Can't think of anything I'd hate more.

However everyone I know seems to have gone Olympics mad and think that's an important event to say you've attended. I disagree but now I won't have to argue my case. I'll just have to say I can't afford to buy the tickets

Of course that leaves me vulnerable to a gift from a kind soul
