I'm sure the receptions, drinks parties other fringe events were just as nice during the Labour Party Conference Catering staff would be right up shit creek if everyone put on hair shirts and drank tap water just to make a point.

Whats wrong with this, a private individual hosted a party that the Prime Minister and Chancellor attended.

Okay, maybe a £25k party is a reasonable way to pass the time before unveiling their spending cuts.

Isn't 120 bottles of booze for 65 people a little excessive though? I seriously hope they didn't binge-drink ...but left a few swigs for the catering staff.

What is your problem? It clearly states that this party was not funded by the public purse:

"Billionaire financier Michael Spencer hosted and paid for the ?thank you? bash at the Michelin-starred Simpsons restaurant in Birmingham on Monday night as he stood down after four years as Tory Party treasurer."
