I've just heard this on the news and my heart sank.

How cruel can some people be to get their kicks out of humiliating people?

And I feel so sorry for the bloke who thought the only way out of all this was to end his own life.Sad

It's supposed to be the 21st century.

Stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid arsewipe fuckers. Hope they are charged with manslaughter or whatever the equivalent is in the States.

Cicatrice · 30/09/2010 20:03

That is so utterly shocking. What wicked callous people his roomates must be.

Horribly sad story. I've always thought it strange that American students always seem to have to have room mates.

Horrific.

That poor, poor boy.

Pure evil. Don't often say that but the revolting people who set him up can't be anything but. For anyone to take so much delight in others' public humiliation and anguish is chilling. Bet they aren't even sorry either.

His poor family and friends must be utterly heartbroken.

I heard this last night too. utterly awful :(

apparently they are going to be charged with invasion of privacy which has a maximum of 5 years.

however I totally agree with the people on the news last night who were saying because the roommate was saying about the boy being with another guy, they should charge them with hate crime. at first I was Hmm about that, but I now think they should - after all if he had been 'making out' with a girl, the roommate wouldn't have filmed it and spread it all over the internet would he.

"I personally think if it can be proved you where a cause to death you should legally be able to be punished."

I'm not defending the vile people who did this but I'm not sure that this is at all workable. In this case it might be obvious that they drove this poor student to suicide but is it always? What if a student commits suicide after their room mate tells them they smell? Where is the line between an insult/"jape" and actually driving someone to their death?

I'm glad that they're being charged with invasion of privacy, but any law that allowed them to be charged with manslaughter would be far to open to abuse.

"after all if he had been 'making out' with a girl, the room mate wouldn't have filmed it and spread it all over the internet would he."

Depending on the room mate they might very well have done. A shy straight room mate bringing his first girlfriend back might have provoked a similar reaction.

Again don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the awful people that did this, but I'm not convinced that it was a hate crime.
