Question about that policeman that's been jailed for assaulting that woman...

...as he is suspended on full pay does that mean he still gets paid whilst in prison?

Now he has been convicted he will be sacked.

He will be sacked. There was a case a few years ago where a Police Sgt in Scotland was convicted of raping women, he was jailed and thrown out of the police,then he tried to get his pension
here, but the court over ruled him.
Thankfully.

Seems two of his colleagues may be implicated too. District Recorder Peter Greenfield apparently said that he was, 'so concerned' about what they had said in court that he had referred the issue to the head of Wiltshire Police.

Mark Andrews, the Police Sgt who assaulted the woman, leaving her unconscious, only received a 6 month sentence. Can anyone explain why the sentence was so lenient?

Here we have a 37 year old 6ft 3'' male assaulting a 59 year old small woman. He is in a position of public trust, he is not young, new the the Police or junior. He is in the Police Station not out on the street, vulnerable or frightened with no back up from colleagues.

I think the Police really have to tackle issues like this. Violence against women is a serious problem in our society and we look to the Police to be exemplars of good practice not perpertrators.

6 months is the maximum that can be given for assault, probably would have gotten less if he was not a police officer who had abused his position of trust and power, which is scary!

That is a high sentence for assault....most peple would not have got a custodial at all.

What he did was unforgivable. Give the wrong person a bit of power...

I wouldn't have thought this was the first time he has acted like this.

He wills till be getting paid until he is sacked. Now he's been found guilty I imagine he will be sacked fairly promptly. However I don't know if there has to be a disciplinary hearing and if so does he have a right to attend? In which case I guess they can't schedule it for another 6 months. So he might still get paid until this can be sorted.

Ditto what the others have said. That is a stiff sentence for assault.

I think he was found guilty of ABH rather than assult and I think that normally carries a stiffer sentence.

I wonder how many of these others are still being paid for similar things that we don't know about?

Makes me cross that our tax money is paying for him twice - his wages and the money to imprison him!

He needs to be formally sacked, which cant be done until after a criminal trial.

The Police should get heavier sentences for these sort of offences....they're supposed to be public servants and uphold the law,not behave like bullies and thugs...some of them are so rude nowadays and speak to the public with such a rude,dismissive manner...i say some,not all(i know a few really nice filth)...and we should not forget Ian Tomlinson...the man who died whilst walking home from work during the G20 protests...assaulted by a policeman
