Me too. It's hard seeing images of buildings flattened, literally on the road where I used to live.

I have a mate over there. She has been under the dining room table with the kids. She is bored of it all now she say's!

Lot's of flattened buildings, very sad. They were all the old pretty buildings Sad

I have close family there. They had nothing but minor damage the other day thankfully, but I feel sick thinking about it.

I know how you feel Besom. My Parents and bestfriend all live there and were all out of town at the time. Thankfully they live on the west side of town, so nothing worse than broken crockery etc. I have to stay off stuff.co.nz though as I've almost cried a couple of times!

And now I've read that Kiapoi was badly affected too and I know people out there with young kids.

I can't watch any of the news or look at any of the photos now - and I live here.

I am literally the luckiest person in Christchurch. I was with my family, we only had a couple of things to put back on a shelf (unbroken) and we got water back after around 6 hours and power after 8am. We had no idea of how serious it was until we got our TV on in the afternoon.

Ds's classmate was not so lucky, one of his family very badly injured and he saw the whole thing - very horrible.

the aftershocks last night were just horrible - with each one I imagined it was all going to happen again - only this time the house wouldn't take it.
