Mums thrown out of 'family friendly' pub

Story today from Southampton about a group of mothers who were asked to leave an apparently 'family-friendly' pub because the landlord thought their infants were too noisy. We've been asked on by BBC Three Counties radio to comment - what do you think? Sounds a bit strange, doesn't it?

The 'emotional' thing is interesting. This normally indicates either crying or being angry. I've been in pubs and watched tiddled women blubbing or screaming at each other with no regard for others, with and without babies.

In this case, I'd ask them to leave to.

Whether or not they look rough as badgers is another matter.

Badgers are cute! These gals aren't!

Badgers never cause bother in pubs on a Sunday afternoon, too.

I think badgers are being unfairly discriminated against here. I'm going to the papers to put a stop to this un-PC slur against them.

Lovely pic Reality.

Thought you'd be blonde though GrinConfused No idea why.

foxytocin · 11/08/2010 14:17

be nice to see a bunch of regulars not drag a newbie through the mud. ok, the newbie didn't approach your in the right way Hmm but then again you all know better.

foxytocin · 11/08/2010 14:18

I mean you not your, of course. Grin

expatinscotland · 11/08/2010 14:19

How do you know it's a newbie, foxy?

People namechange a lot on here.

ChutesTooNarrow · 11/08/2010 14:20

Actually I took the 'emotional' comment not that the women were being emotional but rather as the lazy assumption all 'mums' are shrill, self obsessed and are kicking off and being a pain if they dare to voice an opinion so they should leave before that happens. From the get back into the kitchen school of thinking.

But, yes I am reading far to much into a situation that I wasn't present at and therefore don't know the facts and shouldn't comment. Always interesting how people interpret words.

I love local rag angry story photographs though. I often wonder what the photographer has to do to rile up the story victims to get them so unattractively scowly.

foxytocin · 11/08/2010 14:22

and how would we know that she is not, expat?

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/08/2010 14:24

I love the photos in Take a Break.

usually someone with their hair akimbo pointing to some distant chip shop or whatev where some misdemeanour took place.

Actually, not going to slag Take a Break off, I read it in the doctors some time back and I was VERY surprised at the quality of the articles - loads of stuff about breastfeeding, positive stuff about sharing housework and positive stories about escaping DV. Easy to sneer at it but it is good in its way.

What the bloody hell am I banging on about Taske a break for?

expatinscotland · 11/08/2010 14:24

We don't, foxy, hence, why post complaining about 'regulars' being mean-spirited to a 'newbie' when we don't even know if the person is?

expatinscotland · 11/08/2010 14:25

I love Take a Break! And Chat.

I was really annoyed throughout my pregnancy that my doctors surgery had sensible magazines. I really wanted to read Take a Break or Pick me up, not look at a thousand pound vases in Living, etc.

teaandcakeplease · 11/08/2010 14:38

I thought when mumsy began being rude about Reality that was nasty and unnecessary as well. It was rude.

Reality that is a lovely photo btw.

I didn't think they looked rough, I love the way below the photo they've made the effort to make it clear that each child has the same surname as the mother Hmm Like it makes a difference...

foxytocin · 11/08/2010 14:41

"when we don't even know if the person is", how does it justify a group of us being nasty?

squeaver · 11/08/2010 15:16

What did you say on the radio Catherine??

"We asked MNers what they thought but we couldn't get any sense out of them, with them being mothers and emotional and stuff..."
