Mums thrown out of 'family friendly' pub

Story today from Southampton about a group of mothers who were asked to leave an apparently 'family-friendly' pub because the landlord thought their infants were too noisy. We've been asked on by BBC Three Counties radio to comment - what do you think? Sounds a bit strange, doesn't it?

Nothing wrong with babies in pubs. I'd sooner have babies in pubs than some of the obnoxious adult folk who are happily allowed in. Hmm

ArseHolio · 11/08/2010 13:42

They all look quite normal and not rough at all.. Confused

I was expecting to see a picture of some commoner wearing kappa and creoles and 16 marauding kids.

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/08/2010 13:42

Oh who gives a shit?

Non story. A load of he said/she said.

If you were asked to leave a pub for whatever reason, would you really got tripping down to the local rag to have your 'story' publicised?

ColdComfortFarm · 11/08/2010 13:46

They look perfectly nice! It is so disappointing to see women judging other women on their appearance like this, especially so rudely and cruelly. A poster on this thread has said the landlord is often rude, so why are people so keen to call these three women liars?

PuppyMonkey · 11/08/2010 13:47

Course it's a story. Why do you think the papers and radio are following it up??? Grin

snowmash · 11/08/2010 13:49

Four buggies in that pub = no chance (I wouldn't go there anyway...)

ColdComfortFarm · 11/08/2010 13:49

They weren't having a coffee morning, they were having lunch together, after a morning in the park.

No- in case my mum saw it and knew I'd been wreaking havoc again Grin

course its a story. loads of mn threads start... i went to coffee shop and wasn't happy becasue .....

mumsymumsy · 11/08/2010 13:50

Well done ColdComfortFarm

Suggest MrslackofReality sends her photo in and we all comment accordingly with childish farm yard descriptions - shes hardly going to be a looker is she?

The story is about the attitude of people to mothers and babies. It shows we live in a society of very sad people who all seem to forget they were once babies.

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/08/2010 13:51

Yes, it's a perfectly good thread on mumsnet, but not a story for a paper is it?

Oh what bollocks I am talking, when the Daily mail leads on articles on Cheryl Cole's eyebrowss.

Runoutofideas · 11/08/2010 13:54

If the Cowherds is still a Vintage Inn, which it looks like it is from the picture, then their policy used to be "child tolerant not child friendly". (I used to work for them). It made for confusing grey areas when serving families. I would imagine that the Manager was rude - (agree with whoever said there were better ways of phrasing things) - but that the group was being a bit of a pain, making noise and taking up too much space. The landlord has the right to refuse service to anyone, but he should maybe have gone about it in a different way...

I write for a local paper and I can assure you, we would do a story on this if we were told about it and it was in our area.

Mind you, you should see some of the other things we write stories on. Grin

ColdComfortFarm · 11/08/2010 13:59

the report clearly quotes them as saying they were planning to have lunch, had put their prams out of the way, and I'm sure they are not the noisest party that ever went to a pub. Goodness me.

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 11/08/2010 13:59

They do not look as rough as badgers at all. What an odd comment!

Maryz - I was not seeking your support or being nasty. You should review the use of rough as Badgers and see who posted it. On the radio it said they wanted lunch but were evicted. They would have spent a lot of money in there buy had no chance to. How happy would you be to be escorted out of a pub ?

mumsymumsy · 11/08/2010 14:03

MrsReality has just proved the point regarding her class!

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/08/2010 14:03

Reality didn't know you had your wedding pics up - just had a look, what a truly lovely pic, you look so happy. Nice one, mate Smile
