On seeing my freinds sparkling black very fany pc arriving the other day courtersy of the goverment , i too thought one of these nice new pcs would be great for my son who has ADHD an ASD .
Currently my son who hasnt got a school due to his conditions has a tender reading age of 6 bearing in mind he his 13. So looked through the criteria to see whether one was allowed and rang the helpline for some advise which too be told "the computer says no" , not happy with calling them once i called again just too make doubley sure that this information was correct yet too be told the same answer NO ! So i asked for their guidance notes to be sent so i could read for myself.
Children with special needs statement or who is claiming DLA can apply ......
But wait only if im not claiming WFTC ...? but you can claim if you got CTC and are earning under £16,140 bracket... well isnt that just bad luck i earn £9,000 and the rest made up in working tax credits.
So here i am working 12 hour shifts on min wage just managing to feed us , son hasnt got a school due to incompitent people who cant do their jobs properly (education dept) and one has to tell them what too do and is now in the process of statementing whilst waiting for a place at an autistic school , but im not entitle to a pc which could benefit my sons motoring & learning skills.
Dont ask for much for my son , i want a career as a RGN and showing my children sometimes you have to work to get nice things in life ,this isnt quite true is it ?
I beleive this is system for people who dont have to do much in life and reap the benefits from me paying my taxes .... am i negative , damn sure i am !!!!! Angry

You're not earning 16.140k, this is benefits, call them back. If you don't pay tax on it it's not taxable income so it's probably not classed as income.

Thanks cupcakes and yes Riven its totally insane they might as well made the criteria for people who dont work , because as you said if anyone earning anything under that bracket would claim WTC .
Fluffybunny its a catch simple as that , yes im not earning that but im i am claiming WTC and if you do claim WTC your simply not eligable .
Just wonder how many "low-income" families have thought the same only to be knocked back.
I pay mortgage monthly with my wages and what is left to pay my bills i top up from my Tax credits im left with about £350 a mnth to clothe feed petrol and school bus fares out of that...but im not classd as low-income . Children are currently sleeping on my livin rm sofa which is in their bedroom as i cant afford to buy them both a bed , but if your claiming benfits you'd get help for this kind of situation .
Sometimes i think i would be better off on income support but cant as ive got too pay my mortgage so im trapped in a vault and i'll keep on going with or without the "black shiny new pc" lol :o

You, like alot of families, are in limbo land. You earn too much to get any decent help, not enough to live how you wish. Sad

Have you tried freecycle for a laptop?

flurryfee · 09/08/2010 19:38

oooh just had a look but nothing their for beds or laptop but very interesting website will be using it again :)

Smile keep checking it. You can also try begging one off a local company, they upgrade alot so like to recycle.

Hi, if your child has a statement and you are claiming DLA for him you could try a grant from the 'Family fund' [google it]

They may be able to help with the bed problem too.
