Charles Taylor trial

So, is Nelson Mandela going to be asked to act as a witness at any point? I would luuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrve to know why he thought it was a good idea to have a "warlords and slebs" dinner party in 1997. I could understand if, incidentally, he ended up at the same dinner party as Charles Taylor, but to INVITE a known mass-murdering f*ckhead (to borrow from Eddie Izzard) is a bit bizarre, isn't it?

In some of the news reports they said that Charles Taylor took the blood diamonds with him on his trip to SA, to exchange or use to buy arms. ?????????

Taking blood diamonds to South Africa is surely like taking Coal to Newcastle.

More to the point did anyone believe a word that popped out of Naomi's mouth? There is something that just doesn't ring true about her with me. Could just be me though!

Hassled · 05/08/2010 22:27

Yes, Mandela seems to have been spectacularly badly advised re his choice of dinner guests.

Naomi Campbell sounded totally implausible - would you accept a small "pouch" from two unknown men in the middle of the night? And where are the diamonds now? She says with Mandela's charity, they have no knowledge.

Doodleydoo · 05/08/2010 22:34

And her fear for her family? Urghhhhhh she might be trouble that one!

Just watching Newsnight on this - Naomi Campbell's statement was so unbelievable.
1000s of people were killed, and she is narked because appearing is a bit inconvenient. And she is lying!

How up her own arse can this woman be?

Doodleydoo · 05/08/2010 23:27

exactly - just revolting!

Iloveclimbinghills · 05/08/2010 23:32

Naomi Campbell comes across as thick, rude and self obsessed - that is hardly a shock tbh.

But Nelson Mandela - there are a lot of questions to be asked there.

kittya · 05/08/2010 23:46

Ive never liked her she is so cold and calculating. I bet she has no women friends.

MmeLindt · 05/08/2010 23:49

I did laugh at her insisting that two dodgy guys came to her room in the middle of the night and she took the pouch from them and did not look inside to see what it was.

As you would when you had just been to a dinner party with a murderous dictator.

None of them are coming off well from this.

Ponders · 05/08/2010 23:58

she is a very cool customer - don't like her a bit - & I agree completely, Mme Lindt, about the likelihood of her calmly opening the door in the middle of the night to some total strangers & taking "a gift"

I do hope they call her back & pin her to the wall.

COW

It is about time she got some kind of comeuppance isn't it, she doesn't have a great reputation, she has a self inflated opinion and frankly has only shown that she believes she is above the law because she is beautiful (actually yesterday she looked puffy and false and not attractive at all - what was with that hair? She didn't really do the Audrey Hepburn she was trying to pull off did she?) just because her genes are good doesn't put her above the law and hopefully her arrogance will be put into place by the Hague!
