Don't think it will make a huge difference, bullfighting is not traditional in Catalonia anyway.

If it was banned in Andalucia that would be a different story (and it never will be).

How anyone can watch an animal being tormented and killed for entertainment just revolts me. I've seen images where the bull had its horns set alight before the fight to the delight of the crowd. It was heartbreaking.

About time, what a disguisting 'sport', now to see if the rest of the country will follow suit...

As I see it, this is more a political move than a genuine defense of animal rights... It would be nice if they also banned the "toro embolado", where they attach something flammable to the horns and set it alight, and the "toro ensogado", where the bull is tied with ropes and people walk it around the village, sometimes ending up in the water...

LOL sounds like your dp met a catalonian nationalist on ebay! they are still Spain, but actively working to become an independent country. At the moment they are still one of the 15 "comunidades autónomas" of Spain.

Although I support and have participated in blood sports I am strongly against bullfighting.

I hope it will eventually be banned everywhere. The reason being that the bull has virtually no chance of coming out alive. That is not true of field sports like shooting, fishing and even hunting with dogs.

The bull is first tormented by bullfighters on foot, then disabled and exausted by a picador on a horse with a lance, then banderillos place spears in the neck muscles to stop it liftng its head, then the matador kills the bull after more tormenting.

I know very well from personal experience that a lone man on foot facing a fully fit and uninjured charging bull has no chance of survival. Bull fighting is a gross travesty and a cruel sham.
