www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/israel/7901025/Palestinian-jailed-for-rape-after-claim ing-to-be-Jewish.html

'A court in Jerusalem has made international legal history by jailing Sabbar Kashur, a 30-year-old delivery man from East Jerusalem, for 18 months.

He was convicted of "rape by deception" following a criminal trial that has drawn criticism from across Israel.

The court heard accusations that Mr Kashur misled the woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, by introducing himself with the traditionally Jewish name Daniel during a chance encounter on a street in central Jerusalem in 2008.

After striking up a conversation, the two went into a top-floor room of a nearby office-block and engaged in a sexual encounter, after which Mr Kashur left before the woman had a chance to get dressed. It was only later that she discovered Mr Kashur's true racial background, lawyers said.

"If she hadn't thought the accused was a Jewish bachelor interested in a serious romantic relationship, she would not have co-operated," Mrs Segal said as she delivered her verdict. '

It was mentioned hours ago on Radio 4 - perhaps lunch time news, or 1800 news.

Quite a lot of differing views on that judgement, to be sure!

So, she had sex with him after meeting him on the street (that same day, within minutes it sounds) & and thought he may want a serious romantic relationship?

I can understand if he deceived her for months, saying he was someone else & just used her for sex, but this was a chance sexual encounter & she deluded if she thought it would lead to a serious romantic relationship! But is it any wonder, she accused him of violent rape * indecent assault at first, so she obviously had some agenda!

And really...how many men & women for that matter, have used a fake name for a 'one night stand'

It was reported on radio that she was upset and angry because he had Arabic parents. It does seem 'deluded' to consider it may lead to a serious relationship, but clearly for her, there was something 'extra' to the deceit which made it so important to follow it up.

Given he used a false name, I wonder how she found out, or found him...
