@Owly11 "Catholicism commits great evil against children by instilling them with a lifetime of guilt and shame. "

This statement shows how little you understand the Catholic Faith and in your misunderstanding you seek to pervert the teachings of the Faith. (For what purpose, I have no idea)

i am not trying to understand the catholic faith, I am talking about the lived experience of a great many people who have grown up within it who take the trauma with them well into old age.

I thought you understood it well.

The Catholic faith uses guilt to control. To me this is less heinous than using violence and political oppression to control, but it's still not acceptable and leaves lifelong scars.

Anti Zionism / antisemitism- 2 cheeks of the same arse. As if ordinary Jewish people in the UK or in Israel have any say whatsoever in what their government does, much like our own dear band of fuckwits. If you’re antisemitic at least have the courage to own it rather than trying to hide it via word salad.

Thinking Israel shouldn't exist is mainstream now?

It is on here.
Irl people are a little bit more reticent.

They said that anti-Zionism is a mainstream view, which it is - they didn’t say anything about anti-semitism. In fact, conflating the two is anti-semitic in itself, so I wouldn’t do that.

I’m very anti-Zionist because I’m very anti any extremist ideology.

Actually antizionism is a new face of antisemitism. Zionism is simply the belief that Jews should live in their ancestral homeland. Nothing more, nothing less.

27 countries have Islam as their state religion, while 13 have Christianity as their state religion. 53 countries have a Muslim majority, and 120+ have a Christian majority. One Jewish state of which Jews comprise c70-75% of the population and Muslims and Christians live as equal citizens isn’t an issue.

It’s not extreme for the Jewish people to have a homeland, which is all that Zionism is. There are many Muslim-majority countries now (most of these countries were not always Muslim-majority, and some made Christian or Jewish citizens unwelcome to the point that they had to leave).

I’m a non-Jewish Zionist. People who are ‘anti-Zionist’ are antisemitic; they’re the extreme ones.

As to the OP, no I don’t think we have an ‘Islamophobia’ problem in this country; conversely we have a growing awareness of the danger of political Islam, in its many forms.

Viviennemary · 09/08/2026 15:44

What about anti Christian feeling in other countries. Is that ok. No of course not.

Yet it always seems to be swept under the rug. Still, those that want to, can help

Nobody seems to have any issue with white Muslims though. I think it’s less Islamophobia that is on the rise and more racism is becoming more mainstream and overt.

I'd have more concern about white Muslims.

Converts tend to be more fundamentalist than people born into the Religion and any white person converting to Islam in the last 25 years is making a distinct choice.

Anti-zionism is a protected belief that under British law does not equate to antisemitism.

Yes, and the concept of ‘Islamophobia’ is being used very well to prevent us from talking about this and expressing our concerns. As it was no doubt intended.

Same as transphobia - clickbait

blacksax · 09/08/2026 17:13

Across the centuries there have been endless examples of man's inhumanity to man, much of which has been driven, in whole (or at least in part) by religious beliefs. Isn't it about time we stopped doing that to each other?

Seems to me the world would be a far better place without religion in it.

Yep, especially when they spend many hours telling me about it and the harm they believe it has caused them.

How is antizionism a protected belief? Protected by whom? What body?

Christianity no longer is part of public life in any meaningful way and is not trying to become so. Unlike Islam which is a dangerous proselytising religion even in its milder forms. Christianity allows people to leave the religion unlike Islam, which demands death of anyone who leaves the religion. So think about that for a minute - a religion it isn't safe to leave, that has a very specific aim at its very heart to take over other countries and believes that it has god and morality on its side to kill others. Christianity is a dwindling religion in the UK, Islam is a worldwide threat including in the UK. For the reasons stated above (no one can leave, active recruitment and aggression used to get into positions of power) Islam is growing fast, we need to pay attention to the threat and to do so is not remotely racist.

I have no idea where you're getting your facts but you sound deranged 😂 Of course people can leave Islam, if they do wish

with repercussions:

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a prominent Somali-born ex-Muslim activist, author, and former Dutch politician who has lived under continuous armed security and severe death threats for over two decades due to her outspoken criticism of Islam.

People can leave any high-demand Religion or cult if they wish to.

It's what happens afterwards that is important.

Are they excluded/shunned? If not that, are they subjected to emotional manipulation to return to the Religion/cult?

If not emotional manipulation are they criticised? Mocked? Made to understand that they're just not as 'good' as the people still in it?

That's what happens with all high-demand Religions/cults. The beliefs are so important to the people still in it they literally cannot accept apostates in the same way that they would people adhering to doctrine.

It's impossible to true believers.

Apostasy in the Qu'ran is punishable by death.

WhatYouWearing · 09/08/2026 17:49

Watch the Oxford Union debate ‘this house believes the west is right to be suspicious of Islam’, particularly the audience reaction to an envelope containing the Charlie Hebdo cartoon.

Islam isn’t just a religion, it’s a whole political ideology and in the UK, why would people want to take a step back to such controls on our lives?

parkezvous · 09/08/2026 17:52

Theworldsgonemadagain · 09/08/2026 00:00

Yes and for good reason. Islamists account for 75% of terror threats to the UK. We have had so many incidents you'd have to be a moron to still think it's a religion of peace.
