Nice areas to live in Manchester

Hello all!

we are considering buying our first house in Manchester, we as in me, my husband and little baby boy. We have never lived in the city before, so don’t know much. It would be our life home so we needed it to be in a nice area with good schools. Any recommendations? Altrincham seems very expensive to us? Also, we used to live in East Dulwich London and we loved it there, For those of you who know that area and know Manchester, what would be an equivalent?

What's bringing you all North? It is work, study, family etc - where will that be? Do you have a budget?

Altrincham IS expensive, probably in the top 10% pricewise alongside Hale, Bowden etc. Trafford is the most expensive borough generally, they still have the grammar school system which defo plays a role.

South Manchester - Disbury, Sale are lovely but still quite pricey. The Heatons (Norris/Moor/Chapel) and Cheadle in Stockport borough i hear good things about - still mid- upper quartile price wise but easy trains to city centre, Stockport centre.

Prestwich in North Mcr is really lovely, great town centre lots of nice eateries and parks. and on the met line so good transport links.

All those are within 6 miles of the city centre, further out and you're into more rural areas.

Indeed...

Anyway, the answer is Didsbury or Sale.

Wilmslow or Alderley Edge if you want to be proper posh.
