How long does it take to bid for a council house on band A?

Hi I’m curious to know how long the wait is when bidding for a council house on a band A in West London? I’m 21 and I’m a student. I have autism and anxiety. My mum and I have been in temporary accommodation in a studio flat with a one bed and I sleep on a fold up bed. My mum suffers with osteoarthritis in her knee and she struggles with the stairs as we are on the third floor. Telling a long story short we were kicked out of a toxic family members house in January this year so we were homeless. My mum is a carer and on income support, I’m not in work and still in college so we both couldn’t afford to private rent. We ended up in a hotel for a week and from there we moved into the temporary flat. Anyways the good news was 4 months ago the council decided to give us a band A and allow us to bid for a home. My mum has bided for two houses but they were both offered to other people so I just want advice from other people who have been in this situation, how long it can take and can you still get rejected on a Band A?

Unfortunately there is no way of knowing. It depends on houses becoming available to bid on, and also on how many people bid and where they are in the priority list. Housing is in very short supply, and there are so many people waiting that some areas get 30/40 people bidding on each property.

Hello has anyone had a similar experience we are living in surrey area in a temporary private flat atm. So basically me myself and our child went homeless after failing out with her family before our child was born (toxic family members). We had to sofa surf as the council said they wouldn't help until our baby was born we did this for 2 months then we had our frist baby then the concil put us in a hotel for 2 weeks as they were sorting out a hostel waiting for room to be free is what they said (council).
We was housed in a family hostel for 3 months and they offered us a temporary private flat we were worried as we didn't want to be stuck in one for ever they said its only a temporary flat and we would be out in a year (they lied). They booked a viewing for the flat and the council said we couldn't turn it down as we would be intentionally making our self's homeless. We were just happy to leave the hostel to be honest. So fast foward to 18 months later in this so called temporary private flat we haven't heard from the concil and the bidding list is a joke there hasn't been anything for weeks on there and when there is it's a down grade to where we live now. Our frist child is nearly 2 and my misses is pregnant with our second hopefully a boy then we are happy with just a boy and girl. I was worried about having a second child in this 1 bed temporary accommodation as I didn't want to get stuck here as they is no parking what so ever and we dont want our daughter to go to nursery here as we have one in mind we are 10 miles away from what we knew (local connections/our local are)and we have really outgrown this place.we now just want our forever home a house like most family's out there I'm very grateful for being housed just to make that clear just feel like we are trapped here with no answer we have emailed the housing officer who was in charge of housing us
