I was so shocked by the dreadful behaviour of social services in this case.
Avery was a little girl living in Ohio whose mother went to prison for 6 months for deliberately cracking her skull when she was 3 weeks old. Despite having a stable home at her paternal grandparents whilst her ‘mother’ was in prison , her sociopathic mother was eventually given full custody of the child again, despite years of documentation and photographing of the injuries this poor child sustained whilst in the care of this woman. Social services seemed hell bent on ignoring all the evidence that Avery’s mother beat her and the child was terrified of her. Eventually, her mother beat her to death and is now back in prison.
I can’t believe this was allowed to happen. Apparently, in Ohio there is an approach that children are best off with their birth parents no matter what, at any cost.
This is one of the most shocking, tragic child abuse cases that I’ve ever read about.
Her grandmother has written about it here www.goodreads.com/book/show/54814543-in-the-best-interest-of-a-child
