Hi,
can someone help me,
My neighbour has a CCTV camera app on her ipad and is using it in her window, this is recording us whenever we leave our home and return, we have asked her to remove it as this is infringing on our privacy but she refuses and says let the police sort it out, we have reported to the police and our housing officer but they have done nothing.
We have looked into getting a solicitor but she want £500 before we even sit down, towards the cost, does anyone know a legal service that will send a letter or help us that doesn't coat a fortune.

Just wave at it every time.

Lwmommy · 05/07/2019 14:29

Is t specifically targeted at you door to watch you or is it looking over the front of her house and happens to catch your door in view?

If it's the first, why? Is there a back history here?

If it's the second, is there a different angle that would allow for her property to be in view without catching you? Have you asked for the angle/direction to be changed?

LauraMipsum · 05/07/2019 14:38

If she's just recording what's going outside her own home, and that happens to have a view of your door, then there's not a lot you can do. Or at least if she can legitimately claim that this is what she's doing. Loads of people have CCTV now rightly or wrongly.

If she's pointing it through your window or is using the CCTV to harass you then that's a different matter.

I'm not sure you're likely to have any legal recourse but try your local Law Centre, they often have very good people.

You may be glad of it one day I assume it's not just aimed at your property only?

peachgreen · 05/07/2019 14:41

This might be useful OP. There's no law against recording outside your own property unfortunately, so they're not doing anything wrong by having the camera. But they do have to abide by GDPR and DPA regulations - essentially if they regularly delete the footage there's not much you can do. They do have to have a sign up saying recording is taking place, and they have to consider any request not to film you in the future, but they don't have to actually adhere to that request and it's unlikely the ICO would make them.

Thanks for reply’s
Our two houses are through a wall and it is the ONLY entrance to and from our home as she is the first house. She has not put any sign on it.
Every time we leave whether in a car or walking we are being recorded
This is all because the bin men swapped out bins round and know she believes I tried to pinch her bin!!!!!!

Well, I'm afraid the best you can do is get her to put up a sign and ensure she's deleting the recordings

lvsel · 10/09/2019 12:00

How do you know she has a camera app and iPad?

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 10/09/2019 12:02

How do you know this?

PaulaSmith1 · 10/09/2019 12:03

Can you put something up (e.g. fence) to block you from the camera?

cakeandchampagne · 10/09/2019 12:07

You might consider security cameras for your property.

Starbuck8419 · 28/02/2020 17:45

Sorry but I did chuckle at the fact she thinks you are stealing her bins 😂
I got the ring doorbell because my neighbour (we are mid terrace) kept abusing us for months and I even had her brother on our doorstep threatening me and my four year old. So we needed it for evidence as said by the police.

Even though it wasn’t directly pointed at her door, we still automatically recorded any movement so always caught her going in and out of her house.

Like another person said, I’d just wave because it’ll be a bloody boring night in for her looking through it all!

If it was pointed into your garden or house then I’d say it was something to be irritated about.
