Severe water marks on glass shower door - how do I remove them?

Hi,

My shower door has very bad water stains on it. What is the best way to clean it? Vinegar and just a general shower cleaner spray have not worked.

Does Cillit Bang work? It's pretty expensive and just wanted to check before I bought it. Any other suggestions? Someone suggested Ajax scouring stuff on an old thread on water stains but I was nervous it would scratch the glass.

Cillit Bang is hideous stuff - it makes me choke.

Try some Cif cream (not spray) with a microfibre cloth. It's cheap (partic with Ikea cloths at pennies for 4) and shifts an awful lot of muck from my glass hob without scratching.

Try a bit of bicarb of soda and lemon juice/ white vinegar if you have some limescale stains, worth a shot first.

It sounds like limescale. I use the Waitrose limescale remover spray and it works a treat.

Oh, I have cif cream, I'll go try that now. I also have bicarb and vinegar (only brown though) so I can try that.

If not, where can I buy limelite and viakal? Supermarkets or hardware stores?

Don't use Ajax on glass!

Get a brand-new nylon cleaning pad - the sort that's like the powerpuff you might use on youself, only it's in the household cleaning section for washing up. Cut a lemon in half and rub it over the door. Leave to dry and repeat a few times. Then scrub it all off with the cleaning pad and water. Repeat as often as necessary, but it works best if the door is dry.

I use Ecover limescale remover as it was recommended by Which magazine. It is the only Ecover product I use.

It is fab. Does not smell nice but then it is there to clean.

I got 'pretend' cillit bang from Aldi and it worked a treat on my filthy encrusted screen.

I can also recommend Limelite limescale remover.

I have found that toilet cleaners like harpic work really well, but not sure if you're 'meant' to do that. I have only done it on really bad marks.

It turns out I was at the very end of my cif so when I went to the supermarket I looked for limelite or Viakal. Neither was there but I saw something called Vim Cream Lime. It said it was super effective on limescale. Had a quick go with no success. Have now put loads of it on and will let it sit awhile.

once you have cleaned it all off get one of these and wipe down the cubicle after each shower, it only takes a few seconds and really does help cut down the amount of limescale left on the glass.

I second the Ecover anti limescale stuff. I even like the smell myself! Plus, presumably, its not full of hideous chemicals.

If you do use LimeLite or Viakal, follow the directions to the letter as if you leave it on too long, it can etch the glass.
