June's Fledgling Flyers:"two flyers are "blooming marvellously" : here come the rest doing their flaming best"

elliepac · 31/05/2010 08:01

Welcome to the June edition of the Fledgling Flyers where we are going to attempt to restore order in our houses, chatting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from June 1st.

OP posts:
Toffeefudgecake · 25/06/2010 19:22

Ellie - assume everyone is out enjoying the sunshine today. I noticed it is quiet too. I did notice the babysteps, thank you.

I have seen an improvement in my house already, so please do continue the thread. I can help out with links if you need anyone to take over.

Hope you have a lovely weekend at the seaside. It is just the weather for the beach, isn't it? Have a wonderful time.

Have finished today's work and am a bit sozzled,so will go now....

ChairmumSupermum · 25/06/2010 20:13

Hello all,

feetheart - I used sage for a while and hated it, so you have my sympathy - I went for quickbooks for our business and have found it really easy in comparison

ellie I agree, such a shame about the marking - I found it the worst bit of teaching when I was doing my PGCE (It was one of the things that made me quit!)

Got the morning to myself tomorrow, so I'm going to make a good list of house things that need doing - including things that are normally in my routines. I expect them to take a day or two to get done, and I will enlist H to do some of them on Sunday I suspect, but I really want to get the house back in order....

  • unpack pre-pregnancy clothes and put them away tidily (including sorting drawers)
  • deep clean bathroom
  • clean kitchen
  • 15 minutes in DS's room
  • declutter dining table
  • tidy utility area
  • tidy DS's toys
  • hoover downstairs

For H:

  • mop kitchen floor
  • hoover upstairs
  • water garden

DS is with H and DD has slept all evening so far (seems to be stirring now) allowing me to have a bath and do my nails I'm waiting for her to get more difficult as life can't be this easy

Nettiespagetti · 25/06/2010 20:16

Good evening everyone

hiya toffee aw how brill to have such lovely mum. Hope she got home safe and sound! You go girl cleaning windows
ellie have a fab weekend, we off to beach tomorrow just for morning.

Dd slept really well last night! Few wee grumbles but was nowhere as bad as I thought!

Today I have
worked finished bank recon, tied up loose ends
rang roof man to sort out leak
tidied ds bedroom hoovered all corners
deweeded patio again
watered sunflowers
prepared some stuff for tomorrow
cleaned BBQ so mil can borrow finish cleaning tomorrow
kids to bed!

Chilling but still need to put on dw, sweep floor.

Hope everybody has lovely weekends.

Nettiespagetti · 25/06/2010 20:18

X-posted with chairmumsupermum love nickname. She gonna be lovely chilled out baby. Take care of you

LinzerTorte · 25/06/2010 20:54

Evening all,

V. of everyone who has been to/going to the beach - even if we had them in this part of the world, it wouldn't have been warm enough to go here.

DS seems a bit better today; the doctor diagnosed an "allergic cough" (although it could just be an after-effect of the virus he had last week, apparently). I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a better night tonight - I don't think any of us (apart from the DDs) got much sleep last night.

MrsD I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one with DC who fight a lot - it just seems to be constant some days and drives me mad. Lol at everyone celebrating at M&S in Bratislava.

feetheart Well done to your DS on getting rid of his stabilisers. DS is now whizzing round on his balance bike so I'm hoping it won't be too much longer before he can graduate to a "proper" bike.

Toffee Your mum sounds wonderful - can I borrow her? DD2 will also be starting school in September but we won't find out until the summer which teacher she'll have. I hope she won't be too strict as DD2 is quite shy and easily intimidated; I don't think she'd have coped well with DD1's teacher.

ellie If you're happy to carry on, I'd be more than happy for you to do so - I'd definitely miss your entertaining round-ups! (Although I'm sure whoever takes over will be equally fabulous - didn't SC say she could take over the reins in September?) I'll be away for quite a few weeks in the summer but am happy to carry on as back-up when I'm actually here!

Chairmum Love the new name - it definitely suits you! That's a v. impressive list for someone who's only just had a baby. Btw DD2 (my second) didn't start getting difficult until she was about 15 months, but has more than made up for being such an easy baby since!

Nettie Great to hear that DD slept so well in her new bed. Btw we had a friend over this afternoon and I had to explain to her why DS suddenly wanted to look at photos of caravans on the Internet!

Waves to MissB, SC, swan, Nick, MiniM, OM, DWM, DEM and anyone else I've missed - and an extra wave to PA in Greece (for whom I'm sure flying is the last thing on her mind!).

DidEinsteinsMum · 25/06/2010 23:29

Evening - minimal flying here the last couple of days. Jam making, catching up on sleep, sorting the lego mountain of dispair...

Will catch up at a sensible hour. for now heading off to attempt the early night baby step.

missbennett · 25/06/2010 23:42

Evening! I know it's late and anyone with any sense will have gone to bed. And I will too but am feeling proud of myself!

I started the day with relationship counselling for DD1, followed by impromptu driving lesson. Then work - full day - interviewing. Got my second wind about 5.30 and stayed til 8 so I got through my emails Shame I now have a huge pile of stuff to do.........

Then home. And I've finished the day with a cross between a home bless and a whole house (almost) rescue! I've:
-washed and dried up
-shined sink
-swept and washed kitchen floor
-tidied sitting room
-tidied kitchen
-tidied hall and stairs
-cleaned bathroom and emptied rubbish
-put clothes away
-changed our bed
-convinced DD2 to change her bed (no mean feat, this!)
-load of washing in the machine

And actually, it only took about an hour and a half and it does look better, though I say so myself.

So I am feeling smug. But please note that this will not last and the whole house needs a thorough hoover!!! Maybe tomorrow.......

Nettiespagetti · 26/06/2010 08:45

LinzerTorte · 26/06/2010 20:38

Evening all,

It's been very quiet on here today - I assume you've all been out enjoying the sunshine that I keep hearing about.

We went to pick up DS's birthday present this morning: a new bed complete with slide (which I'm not sure is very conducive to sleep but hopefully the novelty will wear off eventually...). However, we discovered after we'd arrived home that the slide is the wrong colour - different from the rest of the bed - so we've arranged to return it and are keeping our fingers crossed that we'll have the replacement by DS's birthday.

DEM We have a Playmobil mountain of despair here.

Nettie Hope you had a lovely day at the beach.

MissB How do you manage to get so much flying done on top of a full day's work?! Any tips much appreciated.

Chairmum You also put me to shame. Hope the barbecue went well!

Have just opened a bottle of wine here - please help yourselves!

MiniMarmite · 26/06/2010 20:51

Evening All,

A bed with slide Linzer, wow, that would be exciting!

We've spent the day decluttering and putting things into storage as well as trying to put things into storage. DS has now gone to bed in his new big boy bed but I think he was so excited I don't think he is actually asleep yet...thank goodness it doesn't have a slide!

MissB that was a pretty full-on day you had yesterday!

I'm supposed to have made/be making gooseberry jam but it is too hot! Might have to freeze them and do it another time.

LinzerTorte · 26/06/2010 20:56

Hope your DS sleeps well tonight MiniM - I saw your status update on FB and thought it was a coincidence that not only do our DSs share the same name, they're also getting a new bed at about the same time! We shall have to see whether the slide is a good idea or not...

Nettiespagetti · 26/06/2010 21:24

Ooo new beds all over the place [jealous] of linzer ds slide, I looked at them for ages for ds but got different one in the end.

Dd continues to sleep really well in the cotbed bed and she has rushed to bed again tonight and in it before we can dish put cuddles.

chairmum wow I am in awe if your lists and I love ur H's list too
missb well done for yesterday you should indeed be proud! Hope you had a good day too!
dem more jam making you are the jammy princess
Linzer lol at ds looking at caravans, even my ds doesn't care to look!

My list

swanriver · 26/06/2010 21:55

How strange thought I hd posted
but evidently not

anyway hi everyone, reading your posts intently even if not replying properly

have a lovely Sunday

swanriver · 26/06/2010 22:00

Ds2 must have got a whiff of your conversation Linzer and Nettie, as he has suggested that he needs a bed which is not only high, but has a steering wheel.

I don't think when he is 10, (only two years away) he is going to think this cool.
PS. Do not mention caravans, dd would die for a caravan.

ChairmumSupermum · 27/06/2010 15:23

Hello all,

Linzer - the bed with a slide sounds great. I could do with something like that to get DS out of my bed but he really needs someone to cuddle at the moment

Still working on that list, currently taking a break to feed DD and trying to make sure I don't get dehydrated like I did yesterday!

Done:

  • unpack pre-pregnancy clothes and put them away tidily (including sorting drawers)
  • ironed a few bits
  • tidy DS's toys
  • declutter dining table
  • deep clean bathroom
  • 3 loads of washing done and on the line

To do later

  • clean kitchen
  • 15 minutes in DS's room
  • tidy utility area
  • hoover downstairs

For H:

  • mop kitchen floor
  • hoover upstairs
  • water garden
Nettiespagetti · 27/06/2010 18:37

Hello everyone,

Ah what a day, the sun has shone and dh managed to cone back from match not sozzled or in deep depression!!

today I have
dw
wm
batch cooked mince yet to turn into chilli, cottage pie and maybe spag bol
had shopping delivered
went to tesco for bits forgot to order and dh birthday present from dc
went to inlaws where dd refused to say thx for sweet and choclate and spent most of visit in corner! So stubborn.
Changed beds and instead of doing something constructive when dc went for nap I watched twilight film...good it was too

hope you all have a lovely day.

MrsDinky · 27/06/2010 20:31

EVening all,

We've had a lovely weekend away, staying with ILs in static carvan on West Dorset Coast, right on the beach. Come back to a parched garden, but at least the house was in a pretty good state. School summer fair went well on Friday night too.

Toffee - am feeling a bit cross with school re DD's settling in - she has spent 3 afternoon sessions there with her teacher in the new classroom (same classroom and teacher as DS has now, which she was really pleased about) and then we get a letter saying it will be a different teacher now, DD is not very happy, I'm not very happy with the way it has been handled.

Linzer - my DCs would be of the bed with a slide. There's a showroom for Flexa bedrooms fairly near here with one in, they love it. Their bedrooms are far too small though, so tough luck!

Better go, need to do more washing, make packed lunches etc. Night night.

LinzerTorte · 27/06/2010 21:03

Hi everyone,

We've actually had some sunshine here today, so went out for an ice cream and then to the park this afternoon before friends came over for coffee and cake (which we were able to enjoy out in the garden).

DH has excelled himself this weekend - he baked two Sacher Tortes (I should really say Torten) yesterday for DS's and DD2's birthday celebrations in Kindergarten tomorrow (although their birthdays aren't until July) and then a strawberry and raspberry flan today. What have I done to deserve him?

MrsD The DC would love to visit a Flexa showroom! DDs already have a Flexa bunk bed and DS is getting the mid-height bed (he actually has the bed already; it's the higher legs and slide that we're buying for his birthday).

Nettie Sweets and chocolate at the ILs sounds v. familiar! In some ways I wish the DC would refuse to say thank you so that I'd have an excuse to take the sweets off them.

Chairmum It's lovely that you can enjoy cuddles with DS in your bed; my DS is the only one who's ever wanted to come into our bed and he just tosses, turns and kicks (so no sleep for anyone).

swan DS would be in seventh heaven if he could have a steering wheel on his bed!

ellie Hope you had a lovely weekend away.

Off to bed now - night all.

LinzerTorte · 28/06/2010 07:36

Just in case ellie doesn't get the chance to post the babystep and mission this morning, here they are:

Today's babystep is a very important one: setting time aside to pamper yourself.
You can find the weekly pamper mission at the bottom of the FlyLady homepage. This week's pamper mission is to pamper our hair - mine is definitely in need of some TLC!

We're in the living room for the last three days of this month and today's mission is here.

Have a good day everyone!

Stillcounting · 28/06/2010 09:38

Good morning all

Apologies for my absence (my last post was on June 18th and I'd been going awol before that

Hope you are all OK. Have very quickly scanned thread and everyone seems to be Flying along very impressively.

Particularly you Chairmum with such a tiny baby. I don't know how you are managing to get so much done - it's really impressive! Hope you manage to get some rest for yourself.

And hope you are giving in to your body's need to rest too MiniM - it's sweltering weather atm - take care!

A warm welcome to Amothersplace

Hope you have had a lovely weekend away Ellie and thanks for all the steps

Hope PA is enjoying the Greek sunshine too.

One point to confirm: yes, I will be happy to post steps again come September (if that is OK with everyone else) and yes I will be back regularly by then.

DD breaks up for the summer (8 wks) THIS Wednesday at 12 noon . I'm going to be travelling and also receiving lots of visitors throughout July and August and I was hoping the house would be in a better shape than it is frankly. I am no way prepared ...

I've totally fallen off the Flying wagon in the past fortnight. It sounds pathetic with only one child but I feel as if I have only just survived death by end-of-term rehearsal/school trip/fete/performance involving endless sewing and preparation of dancing rodent/blue fairy/clown costumes , a multitude of special props, spare sets of bags of clothing and equipment and lots of chauffering. Our last four weekends have been totally subsumed by one performance or special event or other. Think I will scream if I see another note from the school asking for something ....(apologies to teachers on this thread - pls don't take this rant personally!!! ) Even today dd needed swimming bag, gym kit, choir folder, money for teacher's present, present for 'maman de relais' (mother in each class who relays information from school to parents and vice versa) plus a mini-bucket, sponge and detergent for cleaning the classroom, on top of usual packed lunch, mid-morning snack, agenda bk and homework etc (and she's only 6 for heaven's sake!!!!) How those of you with more children do it - I do not know!!

Tbh, owing to various ongoing boring old crock complaints gynaelogical, hormone, migraine issues I have only been functioning at 60% capacity but nonetheless am disappointed that I'm not more organised for the holidays.

So ...[takes deep breath] trying to swing back in to action this week.

Today have DONE:
morning routine including dw on
cleaned kitchen
tidied sitting room
plastic and paper recycling
one load of washing
hoovered downstairs

To DO:
s & s
master swipe (actually master bedroom needs at least 2 hrs of tidying to put it to rights) so that should be master stroke
put away ironed washing
sort laundry + start working through the loads
French homework
remove chocolate covered sofa covers and wash
change table cloths
contact mobile phone company (am receiving obscene text messages from an unknown source- and am learning some new French vocab at the same time )

That's it for now! Apologies for the whinge - I've missed being able to "offload" on here!!

Huge waves to MrsD Toffee (your ma sounds lovely btw) Nettie Swan Feetheart DEM Optimistic PushmePullyou MissBennett and of course Mummy and everyone I have undoubtedly missed ....

PS Linzer thanks for step today + you asked way down the thread what I was "still counting". Initially, it was grey hairs but I've succumbed to L'Oreal products now!! Since then I've just been counting the birthdays/passing years. And more recently I've been counting to ten - trying to avoid becoming a shouty mummy (although I think that horse may already have bolted !!! I see your dh has taken inspiration from your nickname and produced some wonderful culinary creations this we.... Happy birthday to your ds and dd2!!

ChairmumSupermum · 28/06/2010 10:01

Linzer - your baking DS sounds great I hope mine gets my love of cooking too!

stillcounting - sounds like you've got lots on your plate with all that for school!

Still working on the list. I didn't ask H to do the jobs as he ended up taking DS out for most of the day after me sending DS in to him at 5.30am. Thankfully I'm feeling pretty good today, despite DS being up for 2 hours in the night (it is quite wrong that my toddler disturbs me way more than my newborn, who slept 10.30 till 3!) DS is at nursery now so its time to get down to things!

To do

  • clean kitchen
  • 15 minutes in DS's room
  • tidy utility area (H seems to have made a start on that last night)
  • hoover downstairs
  • mop kitchen floor
  • hoover upstairs
  • swish and swipe bathroom

I should get that done before getting DS, if the midwife doesn't come this morning...

swanriver · 28/06/2010 10:37

SC I feel your end of term pain, really I do.
Just when I thought it was safe to get back in the water after school fete, Ds1 has ANOTHER PROJECT (well, the last one HE did was at Easter)
LOL at the dancing blue rodents.
Chairmum yes tis the toddlers that are the problem; still I guarantee it is more fun in the end going to the park with two. And babies love older siblings, it entertains them for hours.

swanriver · 28/06/2010 10:42

done
booked manual driving test [not till Sept aargh]
