June's Fledgling Flyers:"two flyers are "blooming marvellously" : here come the rest doing their flaming best"

elliepac · 31/05/2010 08:01

Welcome to the June edition of the Fledgling Flyers where we are going to attempt to restore order in our houses, chatting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from June 1st.

linzer I can't remember if you mentioned it or not but did your Ds get postcard from my ds?

Enjoy rest of your day x

LinzerTorte · 22/06/2010 15:28

I'm not having quite such a productive day as yesterday as I had to work this morning - I was looking forward to a week of getting my bedroom in order, but never mind...

I feel like I'm running round in circles, so need a list:

Get DD to finish homework
Piano practice DD1 and DD2
Put washing away
5 min room rescues downstairs
15 min decluttering in bedroom

PA Yuck at bird - I have a dead bird phobia and don't think I could deal with a live one in that kind of situation either.

Nettie We had your postcard of the elephant, which DS was really pleased with (and he still keeps asking to look at photos of his new friend on FB!). Apologies if I didn't thank you at the time - I thought I had, but my memory's not what it was!

DD2 and DS driving me mad with their constant quarrelling and pinching each other. Think I might order some things from Organised Mum to cheer myself up - nothing like a spot of retail therapy.

swanriver · 22/06/2010 16:25

Linzer takes such an effort to rally the team doesn't it?

swanriver · 22/06/2010 16:27

oh dear, sorry, thought it hadn't worked..

swanriver · 22/06/2010 16:31

Just discovered dd sitting clutching the sun cream which she is determined to apply even whilst watching Scooby Doo!

elliepac · 22/06/2010 21:17

Evening everyone!

I have nothing to say about my day today apart from the fact I marked. As far as flying is concerned I have done a load of washing and that's it! However, DH promised me that if I were to do this marking, he would take care of household stuff ie look after DC's, cook, tidy etc. If I am honest, I didn't really believe him but he is being fantastic. Tidying, cooking and even the washing up which he normally refuses to do (we have a DW but for strange reason which I don;t understand he refuses to use it?). The key now is to get this so ingrained over the next 2 weeks that he carries on, don't fancy my chances .

I do, however, have plenty to say about your days .

sr has had another full day! I laughed about DD and suncream. My two are obsessed with it. When i was away last week, DH diligently suncreamed them before they went out in the morning to CM's. However, he forgot to remove said suncream from living room, nipped out to kitchen for a minute or two, came back and DD has decided to suncream herself. She's 2...I need say no more apart from hair and floor .

linzer has been busy working but still managing to keep up routines so well done! SHe is also indulging in that most necessary of pasttimes, retail therapy .

nettie had a busy day all of which is superseded by DD doing a wee on the potty . Well Done DD. If you come across any handy tips please tell me because we are not being very successful in this household with this potty training lark!

pa's DH has been causing conternation by offering to help...goddamn him . He probably meant help with his bike . She is in the horrible run-up to holiday mode yet still managed to tackle a bird without screaming and for that, and that alone, she definitely gets star of the day!

mrsd and missb are very busy in RL but still managed to pop in to say hello. We collectively shall say hello back .

Big waves to everyone else, om feetheart dem sc nick chairmum* toffefudge dwm and anyone else I have missed.

Am going to rock quietly in a chair in the corner and dream of Hitler's FOreign Policy .

Today's babystep is Afternoon routines. Everybody leads a different life and therefore we will all have different things we need to do of an afternoon. Write down what you have to achieve between say 3.30 and 7, and that is now your Afternoon Routine!

The mission for today is here.

Happy flying!

MrsDinky · 22/06/2010 21:46

Ah yes, DCs and suncream. I remeber when DS was about 2, I turned the grill on one evening to cook something, after a moment or two noticed a funny smell, peered in and found a melted bottle of suntan cream in the back of the grill pan. Grrrr.

I think the chances of DS decided to put suntan cream on himself voluntarily right now are zero, I have to fight every time.

Well, today, what did I do? All the usual stuff, plus spent the afternoon helping at DD's pre-school which I have never done before and was very interesting but she says she doesn't want me to do it again. So I won't.

Inspired by discussion about ice cream making last week, decided to have my first attempt at making vanilla ice cream from scratch (previously only really used it for sorbet), using cream, egg yolks etc. Took quite a while, but the result was divine, the hot custard was the most tasy custard I have ever made. However it was quite a palaver and made a lot of washing up, so I think I will try bought custard next time - can anyone recommend a good one for ice cream? Tried Ambrosia once and it was pretty poor.

Off to finish washing up mountain and make DSs packed lunch, see you tomorrow.

Nettiespagetti · 22/06/2010 22:07

ellie loved round up
sr also have suncream issues dd thinks anything that is slightly running not always creamy (chicken
noodle soup once) is suncream and librally (sp) applies it to her arms neck tummy etc etc.
linzer no sorry it was me I remember now. Ds was saying he would like to go and meet his best friend in Austria last night! I told him little far and it was probably time for him to go to bed too
mrsd wow homemade custard!!
pa petrified of birds, dead or alive!! I blame my dear old gran (just like old Scottish lady from britains got talent! Right down to whiskey and iron bru) when I wad about 12 we went to visit and watched alfred hitchcocks "the birds"

MiniMarmite · 22/06/2010 23:08

Oops, fell of thread completely and had to come and find you again! I'm supposed to be sorting the washing out (in order to rediscover bedroom floor) and then go to bed.

My DS is obsessed with suncream too. He usually tries to put it on his legs even when wearing trousers...which gets a bit messy!

I am even more in awe of Chairmum than I was before - I'm only 17 weeks and feeling like a total zombie...flying has gone a bit awry!

Better go to bed really! Goodnight x

DidEinsteinsMum · 23/06/2010 01:47

evening. a very late tired post. definetly didnt fly today. but did have job interview. havent done evening routine. But tbh too tired. Have to be up in 5hours so just going to pull plug and sleep. Lots of flying going on have a good day tomo!

MiniM: good to see you pop in. dont feel bad if struggle I was terrible when pregnant. No idea how chairmum managed it.

sleepppp zzzzzzzzz

feetheart · 23/06/2010 07:02

Completely mad few days here - very long lists of things that needed to be done but very little Flying involved, barely got through Morning/Evening routines.

ellie - 'Rat in da Kitchen' tune was going on in my head too Sadly, as far as we know, mouse is still at large in the house - useless damn cats.

MissB - it was The Grove though I wasn't there. DD was only there for the show so I don't think your DD would have had the pleasure of her company. Until pushed the only thing she mentioned about it was that they did YMCA at some point - she is a bit of a 'slow-burner' when it comes to telling us things though

Am going to do a Flying list today as don't have quite so much other stuff on:

  • Morning routine
  • Newsletter in to school to copy and distribute
  • Car Boot banner and posters up
  • Work- need to catch up as spent yesterday with DS having his 'big school' visit
  • Pick up DS and friend from different pre-schools
  • Lunch in garden
  • Play, watch tennis/football, do some gardening
  • Pick up DD at half-time. School are letting children watch first half in Hall and be picked up at 3.45pm which I think is a BRILLIANT idea. Tempted to sneak in and watch it there too
  • 15 mins in bedroom
  • Pie for dinner leftover from Sunday
  • Ironing in front of tennis/football
  • Collapse into bed

Need to get DC up and showered now.
Have a good day everyone

LinzerTorte · 23/06/2010 07:25

Morning all,

Lovely sunshine here today, which makes a nice change. DD2 went off in great excitement this morning as it's her Kindergarten end-of-year trip (to the aquarium in Vienna) for the children who are starting school in September. Unfortunately her two best friends are on holiday and ill respectively so she'll be the only girl from her group going, but I'm sure she'll be fine.

Nettie I've just remembered that DS chose a postcard of Berlin to send to your DS, so I'll try and get that sent off to you in the next few days. The DC were v. interested to hear about your caravan btw and want to see pictures of it (we must have looked at all your FB photos but couldn't spot anything caravan-like)!

ellie Your DH sounds fabulous - you should def. see how long you can get him to carry on for! Mine is pretty good when I have to work - but does tend to want a lot of recognition for it.

PA Is it tomorrow you're off to Greece? I seem to remember you're going on the same day as my friend (the one who's driving there). Hope you have a wonderful time anyway and that the wedding goes well!

List for today:

Work
Routines
English lesson NB take tube maps (teacher asked if DH could bring back a nice map of London for the class - he brought back 21 tube maps!)
Piano lessons
DD2 to friend
Mission
Decluttering

I think that's enough to be getting on with... Have a lovely day everyone!

LinzerTorte · 23/06/2010 11:16

Nettie I did have the feeling that you have more than one caravan - DS will be v. excited to see the photos at any rate and will probably insist that we come on holiday to you tomorrow!

Nettiespagetti · 23/06/2010 11:43

Hee hee hee Ds would love that he really would

swanriver · 23/06/2010 12:02

I have just been reading breastfeeding threads - what is wrong with me? and offering very dusty advice - must not read AIBU it just sets me off..

must get on!!!
well done on cotbed that's exciting Nettie Linzer Aquarium - lovely

right marbles rolling around in my head, busy morning already, can't quite start again.
bbwhen done something useful

MiniMarmite · 23/06/2010 13:13

Thanks DEM

OK, embarrassing confession time...about the clean laundry I was meant to sort out last night. Well, we are still sorting things to go into storage so there are clothes and packing cases all over our bedroom so, I put all the clean laundry into a packing case, zipped it up and went to bed!

Out of sight out of mind, bliss !

Going to deal with it over the next few days as I will putting away any clothes that no longer fit and then I will actually have some space in my drawers.

Welcome amothersplace

Aquarium sounds great Linzer, I keep meaning to take DS to the one in Brighton.

I know what you mean about AIBU SR, I always seem to allow myself dragged in even it is a subject on which I am not qualified to comment in the slightest so don't worry about dusty advice

Enjoy the sunshine everyone.

Nettiespagetti · 23/06/2010 15:35

Afternoon routines !?!? Pah!?! Anti procrastination day !?! Pah?!?

Toffeefudgecake · 23/06/2010 15:41

Still working here, but am lucky enough to have the help of my wonderful mum for a few days , so the house is tidy and the children are getting fed. Mum said she has already noticed a real difference in the house, thanks to my new routines (just as well I had a big tidy up after finishing the last batch of work). The shiny sink in the kitchen is particularly impressive. I have a big box of clutter in the corner of the dining room next to the kitchen, but somehow it doesn't look as imposing now that I have a shiny sink and tidy kitchen. Very odd, but good.

Bathroom sink was cleaned twice yesterday - once by me during my morning routine, then again by my mum because she always cleans everything after being in the bathroom (see, she doesn't need Flylady). Shiny sinks all over the house!

Not doing the missions this week, as i just don't have time. A shame, as our bedroom really needs some work. I'll try to catch up next week, once this batch of work is done.

MiniMarmite - I laughed at you putting all your clean washing in a suitcase but, if you were me, you would then forget all about it and rediscover it a year later.

Swanriver - I read some of that thread too. Still can't believe that article was real. Made me .But then I bf my boys until they were 2 and 3 (much to my family's horror) and was lucky enough to find it really easy, so have a rather different perspective.

DS1 on his way back from a trip to the British Museum today. Just rang me on his Dad's mobile and said the Egyptian bit was 'really boring', but that he liked the 'chair made of guns'!

Better get back to work before the house gets full of people again.

Bye for now.
