June's Fledgling Flyers:"two flyers are "blooming marvellously" : here come the rest doing their flaming best"

elliepac · 31/05/2010 08:01

Welcome to the June edition of the Fledgling Flyers where we are going to attempt to restore order in our houses, chatting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from June 1st.

oh those nuts and bolts DEM Very impressed, possibly alarmed, by all the sawing and sanding going on. I sure ds is really fascinated and inspired, even if he is obstructsgets in the way occasionally.
MsB tummy muscles, she's lucky to have them still solo [tear in eye - waiting for that moment with my dd or ds1, don't think ds2 will ever be a soloist)
Nettie home does have all those little extras doesn't it? glad holiday went well.
good luck with dentist, my final instalment is tues, well I hope that's it for a year

Can't really think what I've done today,
just kept plugging on, not very strategically, lists muddlng around in my head, don't dare write them down for fear of bad luck descending

done
made cake for guest/dh
Party at Church helped
purchased First Communion photos
had some children round to play in garden
practised piano
washed PE kits
watched some strange telly on Sat night
gardened, swept, washed up,cooked - not much

off to bed now!

Toffeefudgecake · 21/06/2010 03:55

Just finished my last batch of work. Going to bed for three hours, then time to get the boys to school/nursery. Needless to say, there is no Flying going on in this house.

LinzerTorte · 21/06/2010 05:03

LinzerTorte · 21/06/2010 07:23

Just back from school run ? I was aiming to have a nice brisk walk/cycle to Kindergarten this morning but heavy rain (when will it ever end?) put paid to my plans. DH has taken my car to the garage to test drive the new one and see if they?ll do a part exchange, which meant I have to drive his for the first time ever ? slightly nerve-wracking as it?s about twice the size of mine, but I got back home without any dents or scratches!

DEM It sounds like you managed to get quite a bit done despite tired DS. Mine is a nightmare when he?s tired ? I sometimes just have to give up and put the TV on, as I just can?t do a thing with him otherwise.

MissB Well done to DD1 on solo; lovely for you to have a proud mummy moment too.

Nettie Welcome back ? no matter how nice the holiday, it?s always nice to get back home too, isn?t it?

swan I am always slightly wary of writing lists as no sooner have I done so than I am usually deluged with work. Good luck with the dentist tomorrow; I?m sure you?ll be glad to have it all out of the way.

Toffee Don?t worry about the flying for the time being; there are times when work just has to take priority. I find that the flying I manage to get done in between busy periods really does make a difference; I just try to keep my routines going when I?ve got a lot of work on (although very often I can?t even manage those), and go back to decluttering and the missions when things quieten down.

ellie Hope you had a lovely weekend ? I?ll hand the reins back to you now.

DidEinsteinsMum · 21/06/2010 09:03

morning people!

Swan there is a picture of the table on my profile if you havent seen it yet.

I had a shock last night when not only did i turn the computer off at 9:30pm to head to bed (didnt make it before midnight but still) and that i had a routine that i did without thinking about it. Just did it. I am also finding that I am tackling kitchen chaos whilst waiting for the toast and there is washing being done everyday and it mostly gets put away the same day.

By jove I think i might have finally properally adopted some principles. Its only taken months

Today's list is:

continue to boil hell out of pot til burnt jam lifts
Ironing
Research stuff for tomo
Laundry
folding
put clothes away
continue to tame kitchen
finish emptying box of junk mostly cleared yesterday
Drag material out of loft for sorting culling and using.
Mission - i like this one. I might eventually end up with a bedroom rather then a bomb site
evening routine - i finally have a proper one!

Hope you all have a lovely day, failing that productive, or both if possible.

elliepac · 21/06/2010 10:09

Good morning everyone,

Sorry I didn't get on last night as it was late when we got back from DN's party and life got in the way. BF turned up at 9ish to announce her and DP are finally getting married and by the time she left I went straight to bed. Thank you so much linzer for stepping in unexpectedly this morning to post today's links. Got to dash as am posting at work.

Back later.

OP posts:
swanriver · 21/06/2010 11:05

dcs off to school in colour coded PE kits for sports week
Ds2 to follow up dr's appt (just referral admin)
persuaded ds2 back to school

piano first now, as lesson later (swopped withsinging today)
then I hour housework then tackle some longterm not dones..
car - perfectly disgusting inside
tip - old planks
diary dates - begnnng to lose sense of them again and just wing it, which is usually a disaster

make moussaka?

still not focussed today, must deal with paperstuff

linzer good luck with car, my mum drives a volvo, and she is always entranced when you put her in a smallnimblevehicle. Then she misses her heavy duty/crash proof status.

Toffeefudgecake · 21/06/2010 11:35

Emailed my final bit of work today in between breakfast and the school run. Have spent the last two hours whilst DS2 is at nursery trying to catch up on my routines. The kitchen was AWFUL, but I have done it all - plates all put away, floor swept and washed, sink shined. Quick hoover round, papers and bottles put into recycling, general tidy up, dirty washing put in machine and some clean stuff put away in drawers. Feel like superwoman! And I only had three hours' sleep!

I will probably want to pass out later, but at the moment I'm in hyperdrive. It's so nice to get the house tidy again.

Today's mission made me laugh. Most of the stuff in our bedroom needs to be thrown out - it is a magnet for clutter. Where would I begin? But I suppose a few minutes decluttering is better than nothing.

Quick breakfast coming up, then off to collect DS2 from nursery. Out to see friend this afternoon (with boy of similar age who gets on well with my DS). Home to greet Mum, who's arriving today to help with childcare so I can do my next batch of work. Collect DS1 from school. Home. Make dinner. Take DS1 to kung-fu class. Bedtime routines. Share a bottle of wine with Mum. Show her Flylady (she's intrigued. Naturally tidy and organised herself, though). Evening routine. Then....SLEEP!

Nettiespagetti · 21/06/2010 13:21

Hiding out in my bedroom wondering what to
throw out [hmmm] (sorely tempted to throw dh washing pile out!!) whilst waiting for a very tired ds who thinks he is too old for a nap to go off to sleep!

So far I have

not done morning routine but did manage to make bed (I did this all last week on holiday to [smug me emotion])
went to dentist got to have yet another crown grrr drowning my sorrows in teeth rotting diet coke!
Taken dc to surestart very nice, saw some mummy friends so I had fun.

Both dc in bed so I am going to put away clothes in
my bedroom and see what i can get rid of! In 15 minutes!
Put away dcs clothes.
More holiday washing
Then some strimming afternoon inthink sod bank and library and town!

Enjoy x

feetheart · 21/06/2010 14:54

VERY, VERY apt mission today - though think it might take me more than 15 mins to find the bl**dy mouse that girl cat brought in. DH thought it was dead and chased her up the stairs trying to get dead mouse out of the house, cat dropped it, mouse ran off and is now lurking somewhere in the dumping ground that is our bedroom

Any ideas?

MissB - was it the Gang Show? DD was there, her first Brownie outing - she was a small blond Brownie who was apparantly nearly asleep by the end

Busy day so far (when isn't it at the moment?) and I've been to the dentist too - consultation re getting wisdom tooth out, should be done in next 6 weeks or so - eek!

DH has just taken girl cat upstairs, shut her in our room and instructed her to 'Go find mouse' We shall see

Must go and get DS/DD from pre-school/school.
Will report back on mouse situation later.

swanriver · 21/06/2010 15:54

ds bedroom cleared
ds1 bedroom cleared and bed stripped
bathroom s & s
kitchen tidyish

watered garden
piano lesson done

feetheart could be a mouse/somthing that does not belong.. in our room, not sure, can't face climbing all those stairs

sorry to hear about your wisdom tooth. I think I've had one taken out, can't be sure which is which. did not have gen anaesth.

DidEinsteinsMum · 21/06/2010 15:57

optimisticmumma · 21/06/2010 19:37

Hi everyone,

GCSE meltdown moment here!!!! (DD is such a drama queen and is only doing 3 very spaced out papers this year) - God only knows what she'll be like next year!I I'm hoping she matures or I think I'm leaving home!!!

I thought I'd feel calmer if I spoke to you lovely ladies rather than beat her round the head with her textbook!

It would help if DH, lovely though he is, were here before 8.40 in the evening....

Right, moan over, sorry about that!!

Today I have been working and making healthy drinks from scratch with many, many different ingredients with 24 x Y3/4 so to say I'm feeling frazzled is an understatement.!!
It was fun though and the kids loved it!!

I have :
put on washing
done a pile of ironing
cleared up kitchen
did morning routine

That's about it. I will try to do some bedroom decluttering later but really, really have to start writing reports!!

I think the flying, apart from the routines is going to go out of the window before the end of term as I just seem to run out of time...

HOpe you all had a happy dayxx

PositiveAttitude · 21/06/2010 19:42

Evening ladies,

Have you recovered the mouse yet, feetheart?
I may have told you this before, but once my old cat bought in a mouse and let the bloomin thing go. DH was working away from home and I was frantic. Couldn't find the thing, but put something in a cupboard a bit later and after closing the cupboard door heard a scratching from inside the cupboard. I searched the house for the cat, but couldnt find him anywhere, so went out in the street and grabbed the first cat I found, carried him through the house and shoved him in the cupboard with strict instructions to kill the ber!!!! Perfect silence for a couple of seconds, then all hell breaks out. The scratching sound had not been the mouse at all, but our cat trying to get out of the cupboard, so I had thrown in his arch enemy and a massive cat fight ensued!! Try explaining that one to a bemused neighbour when I tried to return his now bitten and bleeding cat! Lived there another 4 years and that cat never came into our garden again and neightbour seemed to give me frequent faces and only ever mumbled "hi" after that!!

Anyway, I digress....
How excing Ellie, BFs wedding!! Hope you had a good weekend, too.

swan - hopefully sportsweek will wear the DCs out so that they are angels for you!

Toffee - 12 hours sleep tonight!!! You sound like a duracell bunny!!

Nettie - you survived the dentist, thats a good day in itself. Hope your mouth feels better soon.

I am really knackered!! Up to my eyeballs with washing, ironing, packing, organising etc. Its never ending!! Work today was madness. Printed, stapled, folded, enveloped, labelled, stamped 12 page newsletters x 500+!I cant decide whether my brain is whirring from numbness, or numb from whirringness!
All done though, so can now kleave that office for 2 weeks and it should survive without me!

No flying on top of the packing, sop nothing to report.

Dinner cooked, so off to enjoy cauliflower cheese and chicken.

Have a good evening everyone.

PositiveAttitude · 21/06/2010 19:44

Oh OM, x-posted.

*virtual hugs for you. Good idea to come onb here and rant, you may damage your books throwing them at DD!!!

Deep breath!! Tomorrow is another day!!

Nettiespagetti · 21/06/2010 20:28

Evening everyone

I do know how you gals do it with dcs having exam stress! Dh and passed an examination in progress sign the other day and we both shuddered here hoping we toughen up for when our dc are going through it!

Well this afternoon I spent longer than 15m in my bedroom (no i wasnt asleep) rearranged hanging rail and tidied up!
Huge moves made on washing the old drum has been turning all day!!
Put away dcs clothes

fell asleep on decking as dh took dc to collect puss from mils!

Watching the how to save billions programme and I don't know why!!!

Hope you all have lovely evening! I'm
off to sort out what I'm supposed to do for my evening routine! I'm gonna nail this one tonight!!!

DidEinsteinsMum · 21/06/2010 20:51

PA - you just made me Rofl at your cat story.

OM - rant on here, feel free.

had a productive day. Am tired. going to try to chuck ds into bed. Bath and bed for me. I even managed to wash my bedding.

elliepac · 21/06/2010 21:46

Evening everyone,

To say the exam marking has hit stressful doesn't even begin to cover it! I know i must think of the money but my brain is fried and I have worked non-stop since I came in.

My weekend away was good. SLightly marred by awful february like weather which meant we couldn't take DC's to beach and one irritating mother who decided that we had to have a schedule (her schedule) and stick to it, down to when we ate, what we ate etc. . In addition to that she drank a bottle of red wine on saturday night, threw up over night and then blamed it on a dodgy pizza, a dodgy pizza the rest of us had eaten and we were alright! Jeez, thought i was supposed to be the child. I wouldn't have been so , if she's just admitted she'd got drunk as a skunk .

Rant over.

How are you lovely ladies tonight?

Star of the day definitely must go to dem who has had a superfantabulous day (few dsya for that matter), well done you! .

nettie has also had a fab day and a snooze on the decking .

pa made us all laugh with her cat bullying antics, had a whirring around day at work and is in the process of packing for god knows how many people to go on a 2 week holiday! . She's having a cauliflowers for tea!

om had a rant with a healthy drink to go. She is suffering from end of termitis like me. I hate report writing, yet conversely like receiving good ones about DS so I suppose I shouldn't moan......but I will anyway!

sr had a superb day while her DC's ran around at school. She's hoping that means they won't give her the runaround tonight!

feetheart has an ongoing mouse situation

OP posts:
elliepac · 21/06/2010 21:51

sr is so special I commented on her twice .

Today's babystep is building our Control Journal. This is a useful tool to keeping everything in one place from all those phone numbers we use to routines etc.

The mission for today is here.

Have a good day everyone!

OP posts:
swanriver · 21/06/2010 22:21

PA that made me cry with laughter you are clearly not the Tailor of Glos

I am tackling paperwork, and have already found long lost driving licence GOOD, unsent tax return VERY VERY BAD... luckily they owed me something.

MrsDinky · 21/06/2010 22:35

Hello, very busy day here, have lost track of the thread again, oops. Not much to say - PA - have a brilliant time in Greece. Will try and catch up again later in the week. .

MrsDinky · 21/06/2010 22:41

SR - re paperwork - this was one of the first things I did when I joined the Flying threads, I got a lot of encouragement from the good people on this thread. Was about last November. Good luck with yours!

missbennett · 21/06/2010 23:13

Evening all!

Too late to do proper post but feetheart it was the Gangshow - at the Grove. Did you go? There were a lot of small and sleepy Brownies and my DD was looking after a lot of them all day - probably not yours though! She (DD that is) did the Vera Lynn number in the first act

Have had manic day at work so come home and slumped with glass of red. Carried out my tradition of sitting outside as long as I can on the longest day of the year but about to give up now and go in as it is time I went up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire, as my dad used to say!

night all!

PositiveAttitude · 22/06/2010 08:29

Good morning,

Lovely morning here. I have been up since 5am.
DH clambered into bed after midnight last night and said: (He always talks to me thenm, even if I have been asleep for the past 2 hours, no idea why - he says its the only time I allow him to talk and I am too tired (ie: asleep) to answer back {hmm]) "Don't worry, darling, I'll help you do everything after work tomorrow to get ready!" Now, I would presume that most of you would think "Argh, thats nice and helpful!" NO NO NO!!!! Instant panic mode sent adrenalin coursing through me for the rest of the night, so restless sleep and me frantically planning how to get out of this one!! Hence me up at 5am, doing the ironing.
DH really has OCD tendencies. If I allow him loose in the house I know i will end up having a row with him and probably throwing all my ironed clothes at him, just for the hell of it!! It takes me 10 minutes max to hoover a room, he takes 2 hours as he will move everything, hoover under cushions, make the room sterile in the extreme with constant "when was the last time you ........" or tutting and making cat bum faces continually! A throw back to being brought up by the most obsessive mother ever, where you cant even breathe in the wrong direction in her house (not set foot in her house for nearly 10 years!) I cant cope with that tonight!!!
So I need to get everything done before he gets home tonight, so that I can give a serene "its ok darling, its all under control!"

Although on his way out of the door to work he did say that he would have to sort out his bike before he could help me. Now, maybe I am missing something major here, but can anyone enlighten me on what one does to ones bike to prepare for a holiday? Bike is staying firmly in the lounge, it has 2 wheels and handlebars attached, no clothes, no shoes, no cosmetics, no make-up, it wont move for the next week, so what on earth needs doing???? Still, it amy give me an extra hour to get everything else done!!!

Cat has also been very generous by bringing me a live bird into the lounge this morning. I am very proud to announce that I threw the cat out the back door, then managed to catch the bird and release him through the front window, WITHOUT AS MUCH AS A SQUEAK OF A SCREAM FROM ME!!! It was 5.15am, so I didnt want to wake the whole house.

Right, I had planned to type out a list, but I need to get off to work. Long day at work today, between 2 jobs. Will pop back leter if I can to post a list. (Makes me feel more organised)

Have a good day everyone.
