June's Fledgling Flyers:"two flyers are "blooming marvellously" : here come the rest doing their flaming best"

elliepac · 31/05/2010 08:01

Welcome to the June edition of the Fledgling Flyers where we are going to attempt to restore order in our houses, chatting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from June 1st.

PA I always think that before going on holiday. I once remember sitting at the airport[exhausted by preparations} when plane was delayed thnking, if it is cancelled we can just go home, now wouldn't that be nice...And just spend all our spending money on takeaways cakes and coffees at local cafes etc

BUT IT WILL BE FAB - you will be transported to another clime, and another life! Away from bins anyway. and kids love adventures.

chairmanit's over, and it's begun I mean Anya has begun. very bestwishes.

Boiling up a burnt pan at moment
Teeth need further tlc, unfortunately saltwater not alcohol is prescribed
Beautiful day outside, garden is blooming.
routines collapsed again due to teeth and trouble with online DVLA.

Hello all,

Thanks for all the good wishes. I'll be writing up my birth story when I get a chance but I'm home and well, with the only issues being my very very achey tummy muscles!

Anya is well - doing the newborn sleeping thing but feeding well every few hours. DS is taking things well but keeps jumping on my sore tummy and H went to London for a meeting today! I have help but would rather he hadn't decided that it was more important!

All in all though I'm doing well. Flying will recommence once we find out what sort of baby little Anya is and my tummy muscles are better

droitwichmummy · 17/06/2010 17:15

Managed to get something done yesterday although not much .

Spent most of today shouting at the laptop which was on a mega go-slow so pottered around doing laundry/DW etc while I was waiting for it to wake up (again!!!)

Toasted Chairmum and Anya last night with my free Appletise (thanks MN!) NOW DH understands why I am on here

Back tomorrow

DidEinsteinsMum · 17/06/2010 18:08

burn out and fried. taking it easy had a sleep earlier. not doing much today. gone on strike. if you are not a plant look after yourself!

Chairmum - nice to see you and to hear you are well, take care and rest.

waves to everyone else.

PositiveAttitude · 17/06/2010 19:42

Evening ladies,

DWM - at least laptops cant answer back!! And how did you get picked for having the appletise? I often do the surveys etc, but have never been picked. Oh yes, I was once, for some apple crisp things. Very exciting, but they tasted like cardboard, overcooked cardboard at that!!! Perhaps my negative comments meant that I am now blackballed!!

Chairmum - Take i easy and enjoy every minute with your new baby.

Ellie - Hope you have had a fab time away. Was it with work, or family?

DEM - You seem a very much all or nothing person. Jus take it easy!!

Swan - Hope the tooth is alright. Poor you, toothache is horrible.

Toffee - for your mum doing the babysteps. Can I borrow her?

Nettie - also to SC, OM,(hope you enjoyed the pampering) MissB MrsD Nick and everyone else.

Today has been a good day, lots done around the house AND...... anyone with a fragile disposition scroll away now!! ....... I cleaned my oven!!!! Woooaaahhhhh!! Go me!!!
I wont tell you all that I had to scrape all the grease and grime off the bottom and it too about 3 attempts, but it does look nice!
Just cooked roast chicken in it. Slightly concerned about the smell of fumes that seemed to be escaping, reassured the DCS that the chicken would be absolutely fine (with trepidation) but it tasted ok, but if we are ill tonight, I'll know why!

DH won a big bag of body shop goodies today. Huge bag of pampering products. I arrived home from town after DD2 & DD3 had chosen their delights. They proudly announced that they had sorted some bits out for me! How sweet, I thought!!!! Peered into the bag, with growing anticipation ....... All I had was "anti-wrinkle" cream! I am more worried that they thought they were doing me a favour!

Have a good evening everyone and I will go and apply my anti wrinkle cream

LinzerTorte · 17/06/2010 20:30

Evening all,

I actually managed to get everything done on my list today! Well, almost everything - I substituted today's mission for the 15 minutes of decluttering, so decluttered the DC's sock drawers instead (which took far longer than 15 minutes). DS has a ridiculous amount of socks (the vast majority passed on from friends) so I've sorted out a few pairs to take back to and leave at my parents' in the summer (I try to keep as many clothes there as possible to limit our luggage).

Some more work has just arrived so I doubt I'll have such a successful day tomorrow (plus I also need to fit in coffee with a friend tomorrow morning), but I definitely feel a lot more positive about flying again.

PA Well done on the oven; I try to avoid looking too closely inside mine! I'll have that champagne now.

elliepac · 17/06/2010 21:03

Evening all,

One night, that's all I miss in months and I miss the most exciting event! Chairmum and H a massive congrats from the elliepac family and a huge welcome cuddle to Anya (what a beautiful name and a special big brother hug to DS . Have had a quick look at the labour thread and saw that it was just that, quick . Enjoy these precious first few days and no flying for you!

Well, Got back from Manchester at half 7 after what was a very intense day of exam standardisation (answering therefore pa's question re work v family). Last night however was bliss. I got to the hotel (which was very nice btw), freshened up and then went out for a meal in the lovely evening sunshine, drank wine and read by myself like a proper grown up and everything. I even had time to paint my nails . Almost made the intensity of today worth it. I now have 300 exam papers to mark in 3 weeks but it will pay for my summer holiday spends so will be worth it in the long run.

Thank you pa for doing the round-up last night and steps as well. So I will get on with tonight's!

linzer has had a fabulous day and is rewarding herself with champagne (I even missed that!). Well done!

pa did the one task that I cannot bring myself to do, she cleaned her oven. Over and above the call of duty, she definitely deserves a gold star today!

dem is taking it easy .

dwm pottered. I love pottering .

chairmum had a quiet day..oh and she had a baby . Nothing much then!

sr has toothache which is the worst ache in the world . Hope it begins to feel better soon.

Big waves to everyone else, hope everyone is ok and enjoying this lovely weather .

I have just realised that I am away the next two weekends on the trot. My mum's new caravan is on site so we are going to test it out! However, if it is ok with everyone, it is the weekend so there is no mission so I could post steps for Saturday and Sunday on Friday afternoon and then do a weekend round-up on Sunday night being as it's normally quieter here at the weekends. Is that alright? Let me know .

Back in a mo with the steps.

.

Today's babystep is the eleven commandments. Someone linzer? has these printed out, they are actually very useful, far more so than some of the other help the fat fairy gives us!

The mission for today is here.

Happy flying!

MiniMarmite · 17/06/2010 21:18

Evening Ladies

Yay, virtual champagne my (second) favourite! Well done again Chairmum .

SR sorry to hear you have bad toothache.

Ellie thanks for another brilliant round-up. I seem to be falling of the doing missions/decluttering; reading thread; wagon again in favour of eating everything in sight! Good plan for your weekends away btw.

Well, what have I done?

Erm,

Work - done
Babysteps - mostly done so house is reasonable
washing - one load washed and drying
dw - loaded and on

Need to:
sort clothes for tomorrow

Tomorrow, I must:
morning routine before going out with DS
Lunch and clearing up kitchen
washing
buy/make father's day present/card
make dinner
evening routine
work out plan for BBQ on Saturday

MrsDinky · 17/06/2010 21:29

Evening all,

optimisticmumma · 17/06/2010 21:33

Hi everyone!
Just flying by to say I am exhausted from doing absolutely nothing with a very dear college friend! I now have jaw ache however!
Back has cleared up nicely, DH is home from Las Vegas which he found v.v. weird (how can a grown man go there and only walk through a casino? Apparently the hotel foyers are casinos and you have to walk through them to get to the check in desk!!Yeh, right! he found Cher 'cynical'.!! He did do a public service project last weekend which involved painting a women's refuge -the England game was on at the time so hats off to him!!)and all is well in the Optimistic household!
DS1 has last 2 maths modules for AS tomorrow and then he finishes - the relief!

YOu all sound as if you've been v.v. busy so I will join you back in the flying saddle tomorrow!

Nightx

swanriver · 17/06/2010 23:18

O your hotel visit sounds lovely Ellie. Is it fascinating reading exam papers or just depressing when they are bad?

PA fumes from my electric oven set off smoke alarm twice, and its not even dirty yet! In the winter I have an Aga, and I never need to clean it. Tis heaven.

Toothache better due to go slow in swan household, felt v. sympathetic to dd who had to go today and have a big filling done. I think we all had a v. low key afternoon, more pottering...AND NO LOLLIPOPS!

done nice supper
watched Brothers and Sisters, love that sad song at the end
uniform, laundry kept putting away (tick tick tick)
cleaned and mopped bathroom
tidied kitchen and that's about it folks!

elliepac · 18/06/2010 05:14

Morning all,

Could not sleep for love nor money last night and I really needed it because I was shattered after yesterday. Decided to get up because have been tossing and turning since 4!

Have put a wash load on and am now going to take the opportunity to get some work done while the house is quiet.

Have a good day everyone!

Ellie, hope you can get to sleep tonight and get through today. Horrible when your mind races and you can't sleep.

Just doing 40 mins of concentrated housework, so I don't get that feeling of not knowing where to start and give up completely. bbl

Stillcounting · 18/06/2010 12:49

Hello!!

Just Flying in and out. Thank you to Elliepac and PA for entertaining round-ups....

Oooooohhhhh; what lovely news!!!

Many many congratulations to Chairmum and family! And a warm welcome to the world to lovely baby Anya.

[dashes off to look at labour threads]

Waves duster at everyone else!!

MiniMarmite · 18/06/2010 13:28

Hi Ladies

Just dropping by to report my progress:

  • morning routine - done
  • clean and tidy kitchen - done
  • washing on - done
  • washing out - to do
  • fold washing away - to do
  • snooze - to do and will probably prevent all the to dos above!

That'll do for now.

swanriver · 18/06/2010 14:03

40 mins of piano done
I hour and half housework done
now to tackle bedrooms (pttin g it off)

feel unbelievably sleepy dunno why?

LinzerTorte · 18/06/2010 14:55

Not doing quite as well as yesterday on the flying front - morning taken up with coffee followed by work, and now finding it impossible to get anything done this afternoon with DC around (had to pick up DS from Kindergarten after lunch as he was running a temperature, but he seems much better now).

To do (am picking and choosing from this week's missions as something needs to be done about DC's rooms):

Finish decluttering socks done
Remove rubbish from DC's rooms
27 fling boogie in DC's rooms
Clear out "odds and ends drawer" in DDs' room
Put away washing
Shine sink
Baby step done - yes, it is me who has the 11 commandments printed out (I just need to work on following them...)

swan Well done on piano; I'm still thinking that I should start playing again. Lollipops are the devil's work IMO (DD1 came home with another one this week that she'd had as a reward from her teacher...)

ellie Hope you're not feeling too tired today; it's awful not being able to sleep when you know you really need it. Your plans for posting at the weekend sound good to me. I'm happy to step in if you'd like, though (I could always do a Saturday round-up if it does get particularly busy and don't mind posting the baby step either).

PA I thought about you this morning as the friend I met for coffee is off to Greece next week. They're going by car - just about managed to restrain myself from asking whether they're mad (it's a 15 hour drive from here and their DC don't like travelling by car...)

Sorry not to do any more individual posts but the DC are demanding my attention - DD1 actually wants to do some piano practice, so I'd better make the most of the moment while it lasts!

elliepac · 18/06/2010 15:13

Afternoon all,

linzer if you are sure about babystep posting that would be great. My only concern might be that they would get lost posted this afternoon.

Am really flaggin now. Nearly hometime though and then a quick dash home to throw some clothes in suitcase and DS in the car and then an hour and a half journey circumnavigating a large northern city in rush hour in the process. But then it will be sunshine and wine all the way!

No flying today or tomorrow for me so it will be a manic catch up sunday afternoon before party for DN's bday!

Have a fabulous weekend everybody!

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 18/06/2010 15:24

No problem ellie - I'd be more than happy to post the baby steps (I'll do so first thing tomorrow and Sunday) and can do the round-up too. Just let me know if you want me to post on Sunday evening (for Monday) if things are still hectic - you can always message me on FB.

Piano practice done so off to tackle the DC's bedrooms now!

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 18/06/2010 15:41

just 'flying' through to post my birth story!

Toffeefudgecake · 18/06/2010 17:57

Just a quick note here, as I am still busy working. Am hoping to finish over the weekend, but have more work coming next week, so only a quick breather, then off again.

The house is a complete mess now.I have even had to give up shining my sink. DH is helping as much as he can when he gets in from work, but he thinks he's finished the washing up when he's put all the dirty dishes in the bowl.

Managed to get a wash done on Wednesday, then forgot all about it so had to do it all again yesterday and then only remembered to tumble dry it today!

Am just about getting the DC fed and watered, but the housework has to take a backseat whilst work is so pressing. I had really been enjoying all the routines and feeling on top of things, too. And,if you recall, actually looking forward to my missions in the bathroom (but, as Ellie pointed out, that was a bit scary)

Chairmum - read your birth story - what an exciting birth! I'm sure it wasn't very comfortable for you in the ambulance, but that really is a great story to hand on down the generations. Hope all is going well with Anya and that your after-pains subside soon (I remember those - it seems so unfair to get them after the birth when it should all be over).

Ellie - are you going on holiday? Am a bit out of touch, as I've had to stay off Mumsnet (too distracting). Have a nice time.

Swanriver - congratulations on cleaning your oven! Mine is a disgrace. Any handy hints?

Linzer - great to hear you have more work coming through next week too.

Time to throw some scraps at the DC, then on with the paperwork.
