June's Fledgling Flyers:"two flyers are "blooming marvellously" : here come the rest doing their flaming best"

elliepac · 31/05/2010 08:01

Welcome to the June edition of the Fledgling Flyers where we are going to attempt to restore order in our houses, chatting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from June 1st.

Hi everyone. Went home at lunch time and for the first time in years I didn't get annoyed at mess in kitchen because happy days it wasn't messy, it was clean!! Didn't want to leave it to come back to work. Loving these babysteps!

swanriver · 11/06/2010 14:22

Cracked on with a few things today, finally realising there is no need to panic anymore...(takes a while to lose the cortisol doesn't it?)

4 or 5 loads of washing
ironing done (paid someone to do it)
sorted out new printer for computer which stopped working for a bit
dd at home briefly but persuaded back to school
rescuing around house,
changed a few beds
cleared out bathrooms
recycling, rubbish, food compost
dw
coffee and catchup with two friends (one on phone)

just going to do floors now

mini good luck with your blanket, eight years later dd still is entwined in her baby blanket, not that I knitted it, but I suppose I could have - pure new wool from a German company - she just loves it.

optimisticmumma · 11/06/2010 15:37

Afternoon ladies - what a lot of posting!!

Am feeling much more sprightly today especially as we came a respectable second in the quiz!! (Did cheat a bit though by getting my jobshare to emailed me the children's questions round! All's fair in love and war!!

So today began by:

  1. Taking Ds2 to school for 7.30 so he could go to Ypres, yes Ypres for the DAY!!
  2. Taking Ds1 and DD to school for exams in torrential rain.
  3. Waving a loving goodbye to DH who's gone to Las Vegas, that'll be Las Vegas for a conference! I know, I know I've heard it all from RL friends!!

So I rewarded all that hard work by going to the local shopping centre (biggest in Europe -) and buying another pair of Fitflops which I love, and a microfibre towel for DDs D of E. God, I know how to have fun!!
So now some jobs:

morning routine done
boil up a gammon joint done
Shred paperwork and open crdeit card bills doneyikes
Ironing todo
online Tesco todo
Organise England colours for BBQ tomorrow
Download airhorn app for BBQ tomorrow

I mustn't forget to collect DS2 from school at 9.30 but after that wine I think!

Will be back with wine and nibbles later...

LinzerTorte · 11/06/2010 19:25

A large glass of wine for me please, OM - I need one after this afternoon! Phoned friend to check she was still coming, but it turned out that a) we'd arranged that we would go over to their house, and b) she'd completely forgotten about it anyway! We ended up meeting for an ice cream in the end; discovered a very nice ice cream place with a leafy courtyard, so will definitely be going back there! On top of that, DD2 was very upset because another boy had taken her Father's Day present home by mistake. I finally managed to track it down thanks to a friend who lives two doors away from his grandparents so she's happy again now. Was IBU to expect an apology though?

MrsD I started the Chapterhouse course but never finished it and apparently it's not really worth doing anyway; the course isn't put together very professionally considering the amount of money it costs and the qualification isn't very highly regarded either. The courses run by the SfEP (which Toffee mentioned) are supposed to be much better. I started out working as a proofreader at a translation company, then worked in-house as a translator in Germany before going freelance. Most of my proofreading work comes from translation agencies; I do quite a bit for DH as well, but most of it is unpaid unfortunately!

Toffee Yes, I try to keep work and FB separate (I've seen work-related contacts on there but I don't think I'd necessarily want them reading my status updates!). I just thought a chat-like feature would be quite useful if you're working with someone on the same document, although it should probably be called something like "real-time interaction facility" rather than chat!

desire Glad the baby steps are helping!

Have rescued the kitchen and the other rooms downstairs aren't looking too bad, but I still have the washing to fold/put away/hang out (if only I'd got round to doing it earlier, it would be dry by now). Hot spots multiplying in the living room; I think I might treat myself to a glass of wine while I put one out.

MiniMarmite · 11/06/2010 19:56

Hi Ladies,

DH has just gone out to get takeaway so I am making good use of my time!

MrsD learning to crochet from Youtube, wow! I must try this (easier than my Mum and I getting frustrated when I tie myself up in knots)! I'm feeling the pressure now that I've told you I am going to make a blanket I think I ought to actually do it!

I've had a good day with DS. The weather was miserable this morning but wonderful this afternoon so we made some fairy cakes and then sat on the lawn and a friend dropped by for afternoon tea .

Toffee hope DH is feeling better, and that you manage to get that MRI soon.

Chairmum hang in there - still a few hours of today to go!

Cheers everyone, have a good evening x

PositiveAttitude · 11/06/2010 20:47

evening ladies,

just flying by, typing one-handed as i have just sliced my finger on a blade while washing up . so no capital letters, sorry.

study day was as boring as i anticipated, or even more so... at one point i was aware of my eyes being totally glazed over aND i was trancelike.
home to cook a mid afternoon big meal for the revellers thendelivered their evening snacks to my friend who lives right on the doorstep of the festival. its less than a mile away, it took me 90+ minutes to get there and back!! i wont be doing that too often this weekend.

sleeping bags and pillows appear to be breeding in the house and various parents have dropped off bags, i've never seen these parents before and i dont have a clue who their darlings are!!
Rules of the house:
No alcoholic boisterousness
Females one end of house, males other end.
No nooky!!
respect me and my family, or you are out the door!!!
Do you think there is anything i have missed? or do you think i am being too strict?

sorry cant scroll and type, so no personal messages. if i try to use my sliced finger i get blood drips and ernest doesnt like that he may even stop working.

bye for now. dh has agreed to do the 1am pick up, so my turn for the wine tonight, then his turn tomorrow and i do pick up, so off to find a large glass.

now ds and dd4 want me to play badminton in the garden, perhaps i ought to do that before the wine.

MrsDinky · 11/06/2010 20:49

Evening all,

Toffee, Linzer, thanks for your tips. I started the Chaperhouse course about 15 yeasr ago but didn't think much of it and finally decluttered it to the recycling bin about 6 months ago. Agree re FB and work, I always used to keep the two as separate as possible but it has proved very handy for keeping in touch since we all got made redundant!

MiniM - my DH has gone for takeaway too, this is the first night he hasn't had to work till 10pm this week and we are both tired.

Mick - what's a trader coin and how do you make them?

OM of you living near massive shopping centre. My nearest is, woohoo, Basingstoke.

I had a bit of a school marathon today, PTA meeting this morning, class assembly that I helped with this afternoon, followed by fundraising coffee/cake thing I was also helping at.

Had a late push on Flying this afternoon, gave the kitchen and bathroom a thorough clean after DCs teatime, did lots of missiony sort of bits like wiping cabinet doors, as have not done any missions for weeks (months?).

Tired, tired, so I will sign off now, night all.

swanriver · 11/06/2010 21:22

Your poor finger PA
not very strict rules...no chores to do?
I want to stay at your house!

Just been re-reading Moominsummer Madness - I want to be as hospitable as you and Moominmamma - but fear resemblance to the more barmy characters.

Ds2 seems a bit ill, so we have put him to bed. May only be two kids to Legoland alas. Have been moving plants around - the shocking pink petunias are going at the front now to scare the burglars away. Sink clean, lots decluttered today, bedrooms tidyish. Everything looks a bit shabby and grimey though.

Have a lovely evening, hope you get chance to collapse in style MrsD and Linzer OM big shopping centres throw me into confusion and I end up buying things from WH Smith because feel safe there... We have the Westfield in White City, fnd it most overwhelming.

elliepac · 11/06/2010 21:44

Evening one and all,

Couldn't even finish my minimal list today but it's Friday so I don't care . I will join the takeaway crew having just had pizza with the compulsory vino to wash it down. DH has settled down to watch Uruguay vs France (the why behind this acitivity eludes me) so have taken myself up to bed with the laptop .

Here comes the round-up. Deep breath.....here we go!

mrsd has had a super busy evening flying, which followed a super busy day. She did lots of missions and deserves a pat on the back . She's tired .

pa (she of the oh so quiet life ) is having an unusually busy weekend . Despite posting while dripping blood >, did quite a lot of housework and rewarded herself with some new shoes (guess again), some new make-up (guess again) clothes (guessagain) some flip flops and a cleaning cloth (you got it!). She knows how to live . On a very normal note, how's the back, hope it's improving .

sr had a super successful day . How lovely that DD still uses her baby blanket! SHe is definitely not panicking anymore .

desire is discovering the power of the fat fairy and earning her fairy wings in some style!

toffeefudgecake do not ever feel the need to apologise on here. We are here not just here for flying but for general life support as well. We are women, we multi-task . Sorry DH is not feeling any better, hope you get some answers soon. Oh and getting the MIL to do the ironing is not cheating.....it is clever . How many fruitflies did you kill, you fruit fly murderer you ?

nettie bless her, she had one of those horrendous day before you go on holiday lists. Hope you got everything done and that you have a fabulous holiday .

chairmum's due date came.....and went. Hope you are ok and not too fed up. Both of mine were 11 days over and induced when they finally decided to grace us with their presence so i truly know how you feel. Just keep resting and enjoy the sleep while you can .

nick bragged...sorry, told us about her very tidy house. She then had a typically quiet day, just pottered about and relaxed . She is also leaving the clean kitchen in the hands of the DH for the weekend. Now, this is a very risky business and should only be approached with great thought and caution. She clearly has risk assessed but I suggest she powers up her fat fairy wand for when she returns home, just in case .

elliepac completed a minimal amount from her minimal list therefore exuding minimal effort and minimal time. She drank maximum wine .

Big waves to sc frubear gormers and those whom I have missed (sorry if that's you ).

Steps in a mo!

elliepac · 11/06/2010 21:51

Tis the weekend which means no missions! Here is today's babystep deleting the e-mails. If any of you have not de-registered from the flylady e-mails, do so now. That's an order, we are all you need!

Have a fab weekend!

MiniMarmite · 11/06/2010 21:55

Indian, sorry Ellie!

Sorry about your finger PA take care x

missbennett · 11/06/2010 22:58

bugger -just lost post. Given up now. Hope all OK - have had manic couple of days but enjoyed birthday and house reasonably straight as well

On way to bed but just wanted to say, toffee, antibiotics can make you poorly - DD1 had had some that made her really ill - feeling sick, stomach pains and headaches etc so it might well be that?

Will try and do a bit more over the weekend!

optimisticmumma · 11/06/2010 23:28

Too late to be posting but hope your policing is going well PA - rather you than me! Think your rules sound fine- no sex, drugs or rock and roll - well Ok rock and roll fine ...

Just off to bed but enjoyed the round up Ellie - were you spying on me instead of working??!!

See you all tomorrow...

Toffeefudgecake · 12/06/2010 00:29

MissB - It is the antibiotics! Had a phone consultation with GP, who spotted in his records that DH had had same symptoms four years ago whilst taking same tablets. At the time, it had been put down to a virus. Now DH has stopped taking the tablets and is slowly getting better.

DS1 feeling ill this evening too and had a temperature. What is going on with my family? They were all supposed to be going out tomorrow so that I could have a quiet house for working. Don't see that happening now. Why do DH and DC always get ill when I am working...?

Ellie - I love your round-ups. Glad to hear this thread is for general support too. And I'm relieved that you still want me in your group, even though I have no conscience about killing insects or delegating my ironing to an 80-year-old woman.

Very good day re housework. My kitchen is looking great and I used Windowlene to shine my sink this evening. Am definitely getting obsessed with the shiny sink bit. Shame there are countless smelly black bin bags outside my kitchen door (missed the dustbin men this week), but I am a beginner after all. Let's hope I don't get rats too.

Have done my evening routine and tomorrow's washing is sitting in the machine, ready to go first thing tomorrow. I feel soooo efficient.

Oops - late again. Doesn't Flylady tell us to go to bed at a 'decent hour' so that we can be up bright and early to start our morning routine?

Good night to you all.

MuckyDucky · 12/06/2010 00:39

Ellie has done yet another amazing round up

Muckyducky is back of holiday and has first load of washing in machine but is going to bed because she is tired and has a night out with the girls tomo. but a morning of manic washing outfit sorting and general panicing over inability to stick to a schedule

have a good weekend folks. Will put my wings back on on tuesday, when school starts back for the last half term.

elliepac · 12/06/2010 08:45

Mid house-bless/rescue check-in.

Have:-

WM on
DW on
Done missions in kitchen
Polished/swept floors/tidied in living room, dining room and hallway

Those of you who have recently joined us, please note that there is no way I could have cleaned the downstairs of my house in an hour and a half before I started flying. Saturday morning used to consist of wading my way through crap to find the kettle and then tidying all morning just to find floor space. It really does work! .

desire I am impressed. When I fail to a babystep, I just fail, I don't even consider doing it the next morning . Gold star for you!

AM going to do upstairs now, which is even more of a surprise...I NEVER get round to doing upstairs!

LinzerTorte · 12/06/2010 08:47

Good morning,

I am wilting in the heat here - talk about from one extreme to another. We've had weeks of cold and rainy weather and suddenly it's 30° or more. To make matters worse, I have to work. DH has taken the DC to his parents so I can work without interruption, but I feel quite sad that I couldn't go with them and am missing out on family time.

Anyway, will have to see how work goes and whether I can manage to fit in any flying later - the house could definitely do with a tidy-up (as always) and I should put some washing on too, as it will dry in about five minutes in this heat. Back later...

desiretochange · 12/06/2010 08:58

Am in the process of trying to motivate myself to change things and state of house is one of these things. Absolutely hate washing floors and if I put it off today then I will keep putting it off. First thing I have to do this morning is get off the computer and start{grin} . . by the way, silly question, but how come whenever I try to insert a smiley it just comes up exactly the way I typed it.

LinzerTorte · 12/06/2010 09:26

desire My problem is not getting off the computer (work has to take priority over flying today) but staying off MN (I'm not here really. Honestly). Re brackets - it looks like you're using curly ones rather than square brackets. If you type [ grin ] but without the spaces, it should work.

Now why did that post twice? It must be a sign that I really am spending too much time on here.
