how to get tumble dryer to come in the night when it is economy 7

I have just bought a tumble dryer and we have economy 7. I can`t get it to come on with the timer between 00.00 - 07.00. I put the timer on overide but when it kicks in nothing happens, the start button needs pressing again. Anyone know how I can do it?

I don't know how to do this but I do know that the Fire Dept strongly recommend you do not have a tumble dryer running whilst you are sleeping or out of the house.

depends on the tumbler. I used to be able to use our old one in the night, but i bought a digital one since and it doesn't work with the timer switch!!!

I'd actually check if economy 7 is worth having.

You pay more per unit in the day, for the benefit of having cheaper units at night, my electricity provider said that unless you are a shift worker and regularly up during the night using appliances it actually works out more expensive overall.

We had our meter changed free of charge and we do pay less for our electricity now.

Worth looking into.

If you have storage heating there is no way it works out more expensive.

My economy 7 kickis in at either 11 or 11.30 i never remeber which i just start them then as it's when i usually head for bed around then, i'm never sleeping before they finish anyway.

I would put other things on in the night, but would be very wary of having a tumble dryer on at night anyway. Our last washer dryer died in a puff of smoke, and I've got a couple of friends whose dryers died in the same way.

At least I was awake and in the house when it happened, so that all I had to deal with was some very smoky smelling clothes - will never have it on when I'm out or asleep now.

I asked a fireman when he came to do a talk at school, and he recommended timing appliances to come on late in the night 5-6am so that you would be starting to wake up anyway and quickly alerted to any problem. If you do want to put it on overnight then you just need to buy a timer unit which you plug the appliance into and set for the time you want it to come on.

That is the problem, I can`t get the timer switch to make it come on, the washing machine does but the tumble dryer just goes onto standbye so start button needs to be pressed agan. I do have t5hem come on at 5.00.
