May's Fledgling Flyers: shed that clout May Flyers are out

elliepac · 28/04/2010 21:23

Welcome to the May edition of the fledgling flyers where we are going to merrily fly around the maypole, dusting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from May 1st.

PA - Hope you're feeling better now!
I am relieved about the CS but part of me was looking forward to the idea of not having to go through labour - I don't have a birth partner available that I can really feel comfortable with so there's always a concern that I'm going to get stressed and make myself worse!

I'm jealous of those with cleaners too. It would be so nice just to have to do my routines and have someone else run through once a week to clean the kitchen/ bathroom properly and hoover all the places I miss!

feetheart - at new bra too! My boobs have finally started growing again in these last few pregnant weeks, then it'll be nursing bras again for me for god knows how long! Going to splash out on a couple more nice ones when things have settled after the birth I think.

Right, list for today:

  • Morning routine underway
  • midwife
  • DS to nursery
  • 15 minutes on bedroom again
  • 15 minutes decluttering spare room
  • start filling in tax return and tax credits form (on the sofa in front of the tv )
  • DS from nursery
  • afternoon routine
  • evening routine
feetheart · 11/05/2010 10:24

Chairmum - new bras are getting to be a bit of an essential. I had a complete underwear overhaul 4 mths or so after I stopped feeding DS, that was about 3 years ago so we are into serious grey and saggy territory now

PA - still have food in cupboards as had 2 x 7 yr olds (1 of which was mine), a 5 yr old, a 4yr old (mine) and a 2yr old - no yoghurts or milk left but cats did well from leftovers of various meals

MissB - Bedfordshire well known for secret mess bombers, something about being so far from the sea I think

List for today:

  • Morning routine - done (including cat litter!)
  • Work
  • Pick up DS then to bank and Sainsburys
  • 2 mins Hotspot
  • 15 mins declutter somewhere/anywhere!
  • Make cake/biscuits for School Assoc meeting tomorrow (my way of getting people to meeting )
  • Haircut for DS at friend's
  • Afternoon/Evening routines
  • Rest of ironing leftover from Sunday night
  • Bed by 10.30pm
pushmepullyou · 11/05/2010 11:02

Morning all

Mess bombers here too I'm afraid!

Chairmum I had some lovely nursing bras from Hot Milk. They were quite expensive but I only got a couple and am still feeding DD a couple of times a day at 17 months, so they have definitely worth it. Figleaves often has them on sale as well.

Nettie and Linzer am very of your cleaner. I want one too!

PA, sorry you've been feeling rough. I've got a lingering cough too. It's very annoying, think there must be one going round.

Right - enough procrastination! My list....

Take grouchy, coldy teething DD to parents - done
Washing on - done
Pick up dry cleaning - done

To do

Hang out washing
Put away clean washing
Put away shopping
Strip chicken
Make stock
Paid work x lots!
Ring plumber re having no heating (still icy here!)
Hoover upstairs
Quick panic tidy
Pick up DD from mums

LinzerTorte · 11/05/2010 11:04

I was just about to come on here earlier and write a long post when work intervened. I've finished it now, but so much for getting ahead with the week's missions and decluttering (it's a bank holiday and DD1's first communion on Thursday and we'll be away from Friday till Sunday). Though I must admit I'm secretly relieved not to have to be tackling the fridge today!

PA Hope you're feeling better now. I'm secretly hoping they don't get their act together so that I can actually vote this time! (Had an e-mail back from Westminster and they're checking the electoral register for me.)

MissB and feetheart I was born in Beds. Could this explain something?

Chairmum Good news about the CS. For what it's worth, I've had both and I'd far rather have a "normal" birth if I had to go through it all again. Hopefully you'll have a quick labour second time round too - tbh (and I know it's easy for me to say) I hardly noticed whether DH was there or not when DD2 was born as it all went so fast.

Today's list:
Morning routine done
Cook dinner done
Send e-mail - will do as soon as I can find my address book
Find passport photo of DD1 for FC - can only find v. small photo
Mission done
15 min decluttering in kitchen started
Kindergarten and ballet run (with 2 extra children)
Afternoon routine

Have just found out that more work is on its way - just as I was looking forward to a nice quiet evening of doing nothing much before DH gets back from Berlin (fairly late tonight). Now off to pick up DD1.

elliepac · 11/05/2010 11:17

Morning all,

Quick peek in at work. See the infamous mess bomber has become quite prolific .

Had a good morning flying wise. Before I left for work I:-

washing on
washing on line/drier
washed up
tidy
made DC beds

That's enough for me but at least I know I should go home to a relatively tidy downstairs!

Have a good day everyone!

  • evening routine
MrsDinky · 11/05/2010 17:35

Well, yet another day of the best laid plans going astray, DD has been feeling poorly today, out of sorts, slight temperature etc, so no pre-school, and didn't really want to just abandon her on the sofa with the telly while I did all my planned decluttering upstairs, though did manage a bit once DS was back from school. So I have sat watching the Wiggles all afternoon, the things we have to do!

Linzer, MissB, Feetheart another one born in Beds here, there definitely seems to be a connection! The bomber has well and truly hit my upstairs this last couple of weeks.

PA - good to see you back again.

Catch up later hopefully.

PositiveAttitude · 11/05/2010 19:17

MrsD hope you enjoyed the Wiggles! Sounds fun!!!!!

My day has been a total disaster at work. I went in an hour early, so that I could get the work done before the cables could all be moved down to the new office. Everything went wrong and I left the same time as I normally do to go to job number 2. Stupid day there too and ended up being there for 2 more hours than I should have been. I told the workmen that I didnt care what they didn't get done with moving everything into new office, BUT by first thing in the morning I MUST have internet and printer access. I cannot do any part of my job without it. Had a phone call at 5.30. Everything done, apart from internet and printer!!! GGGgggggrrrrrrrr!!
Tomorrow could be more of a disaster than today!!

DH overheard me telling the sink that it was very lucky to be No 1 on the list, cos that is all I am doing today! My sink is shiny though. Chaos reigns everywhere else!

Wine open (I am in dire need!) Ellie are you ready for one yet? Help yourself everyone.

droitwichmummy · 11/05/2010 19:36

Just whizzing through!!!! vvvvvvvvv busy week workwise so not much flying but my new shredder has arrived today Off to London tomorrow for the day so early start and another on Thursday. Roll on Friday when I'm working from home!

elliepac · 11/05/2010 19:36

pa I am always ready for wine, you know that thank you muchly. Just finished parent's evening, bits and bobs to do, dinner to cook. Just wanted to veg in front of TV but Gordon Brown has rather inconvenienced my plans by deciding to resign. I rather object to the BBC deciding that is more important than EastEnders and Holby City .

OP posts:
swanriver · 11/05/2010 19:37

Well this day should have been a disaster as I was feeling thoroughly bleugh, but managed to get through a hectic morning at school (v.work)B & Q to plant up a garden (not mine) and downstars has stayed tidy by dint of letting kids watch telly for hours Ds1 had been in a cricket match. And managed to cook dh supper (leek asparagus bacon and chicken risotto, and cucumber soup (can you tell my veg box has arrived so that he was forced to eat at 7.00 not 9.00.

So the sink is shiny now, and will remain so!! Good for you PA - what a vile day
MrsD I quite like that sort of day really cuddling people on sofa

tomrrow will be worse though..

Nettiespagetti · 11/05/2010 20:11

mrsd we are wiggles mad in this house

house not bad and I've got my feet up watching pomp and circumstance debarckle! Gosh journalists do have verbal diahhorea nit unlike that of football commentators!!

Hope you all have lovely night xx

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 11/05/2010 20:27

Evening all,

I managed to get all my routines done, and because H dropped by (after big hints) to get bags out of the loft I also part packed my hospital bags! Also don't often remember to put out clothes but as I have to have DS ready to go at 8ish tomorrow I needed to get a headstart on that! Am in bed ready for sleep now. Let's hope DS sleeps better than he has been.

PA - sounds like a nightmare work wise

LinzerTorte · 11/05/2010 20:28

I wouldn't say no to a large glass of wine PA. DH is due back in about an hour so I've just had a quick blitz downstairs so that he doesn't suspect I've actually spent all evening on MN and even shined my sink.

MrsD Hope DD is better soon. I can think of worse ways to spend the afternoon than watching the Wiggles.

swan Hope you survive tomorrow; Weds are the worst days for both of us, if I remember rightly. I do get a slightly longer morning tomorrow - English has been cancelled as DD1's class has its first communion rehearsal - but I've just remembered that DH has volunteered me to make muffins for the post-FC do and they have to be delivered tomorrow afternoon.

elliepac · 11/05/2010 20:32

Evening all,

am absolutely pooped so please forgive if I don't do round-up tonight. Shall just say well done to everyone for some serious cleaning and to say that I am of those of you with cleaners.

Have managed to keep on top tonight. Have:-

Washing in drier
washing on
Bathed dc's
15 min room rescue in bathroom while doing the above
cooked dinner
tidied living room
washed up

Am pooped. Am going to imbibe wine and watch events unfold!

OP posts:
elliepac · 11/05/2010 20:49

Evening everyone,

Today's babystep is e-mails. If any of you do actually receive the flylady e-mails, you are braver than me . If you do not receive the e-mails, then take this as a day to consider and consolidate.

The mission today is here

Have a good day everyone!

OP posts:
biddyofsuburbia · 11/05/2010 21:12

Evening all sorry not been here today but haven't been near a computer !! Anyway zero flying as out but doing DW/WM/getting ready for morning stuff now. Just trying a new recipe so must go. Back with a list in the morning. Big waves all - you've all been super busy - well done!

optimisticmumma · 11/05/2010 21:49

Evening all - just a quick flyby.
Haven't done a thing!
Tomorrow I really have got to get going and buy a new WM.
Why is it that the whole house has ground to a halt without one?
All my boys are now without clean socks - things are getting desperate!!
Revision is the name of the game here too. I have a DS on study leave for AS levels and a DD doing a couple of GCSEs plus end of year exams etc etc.
I just know DS and I will come to blows during this time....help!!
Am really pooped too so am going to slump on sofa and watch people come in and out of No 10!!
See you tomorrow....

MrsDinky · 11/05/2010 22:18

Evening all,

Early evening went OK, DD still decidedly off colour, but dosed up with ibuprofen and asleep. DS was very pleased to hear that his "Blues" had finally won the election. Spent the obligatory couple of hours watching events unfold, thank goodness for Sky+ as was able to conduct evening routines around stopping starting and fast forwarding all the boring bits.

Re Wiggles, they are one of the few children's programmes I actually quite like watching, love all the catchy tunes, though they do stick in my head for days.

PA - sorry you had such an unproductive day, hope things improve

OM - we bought a new Bosch washing machine 6 months ago and very pleased with it.

Ellie - did they just dump EE/Holby? I came back to the telly at just after 9 and found Luther was on. Not that I watch any of these, Corrie being my soap of preference, but I would have been miffed if I did.

Nettie - busy day, well done

SR - much of my Flying is achieved with the help of the telly one eyed babysitter.

Waves at everyone else, and decides to go to bed.

missbennett · 12/05/2010 07:22

Morning!
Ooh, sounds like it was a bit fraught all round yesterday. Hope today improves.
Hectic day for me as I have to deliver a seminar this morning. All sorted but my black trousers that I'd planned to wear aren't dry So I need to go and replan my outfit. Hey ho at least I haven't got to move house as well, or choose a cabinet!

Other slight trauma is that looks like both DDs can't go to see Westlife as tickets say if you're 14 or under you've got to be accompanied by 18 year old. DDs are 14 and 17 so it won't work and DD2 stressed about the thought of being taken to the O2 police cells So DD1 trying to find friend to go with at short notice. And I am fed up as I had planned nice treat for them and it won't pan out. DD2 being remarkably grown up about it all though and is on a promise for September when she will be 15!

Right, off to rearrange wardrobe. Have good days, all

Nettiespagetti · 12/05/2010 07:24

Morning everyone our first new day as a Tory country with a twist of lib dems

I'm off to work today.
So before work I hope to get dressed
get dc dressed and ready for nursery
shine sink
kick start laundry (still holding out on DH laundry )
dw

hope you all have lovely days :-)

Nettiespagetti · 12/05/2010 07:26

X posted missb that sucks about concert fingers crossed can get someone older!!

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 12/05/2010 07:43

Nettie - that's a very depressing thought

missb - reorganising your wardrobe sounds fun to me

My jobs for today:

  • morning routine
  • off to hospital for routine consultant appointment
  • mid-week topup shopping
  • DS to music group
  • evening routine
  • recycling bin out on kerb
  • deep clean bathroom (15 mins)

DS away tonight so that should be easy

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 12/05/2010 11:19

Update to keep me going!

  • morning routine done
  • off to hospital for routine consultant appointment done
  • put away stray washing done
  • mid-week topup shopping
  • DS to music group
  • evening routine
  • recycling bin out on kerb
  • deep clean bathroom (15 mins)
- 15 mins decluttering in spare room done
feetheart · 12/05/2010 13:02

MissB - I would be tempted to ignore info on tickets as long as you trust your DDs. Admittedly I am a long way from letting my two go anywhere on their own (being 7 and 4) and I seem to have a reputation for being slack letting them do things their friends aren't allowed to do so feel free to ignore me. Well done to DD2 for being so grown-up about it, make sure that promise doesn't end up too expensive

MrsDinky - hope DD is feeling better. You are a better woman than me, about 30mins of Wiggles would be enough for me. Give me 'Cars' anytime

swanriver - risotto sounds very yummy. Must try and venture beyond mushroom and bacon or butternut squash risotto sometime

OM - we got a Seimens about 10mths ago and am v happy with it. Was a recommendation from lady in nice independent shop when I was buying a, much cheaper machine, for rental flat. She had one and so had at least 5 colleagues in the shop which must be most of the staff!

Today I have;

  • Failed to go for a run
  • Morning routine
  • Stuff to Hospice shop
  • DH's dry-cleaning dropped off
  • Sort of tidied and hoovered living room
  • Sorted out list of stalls for pre-school fete (gave them all the ones we used at last school one)

Still need to:

  • Mop kitchen floor
  • Make more cake/biscuits for School Assoc meeting as ones made yesterday nearly all scoffed
  • Make lasagne for dinner
  • Clean bathroom floor
  • Dust living room just in case meeting has to be here rather than at school
  • Afternoon/evening routines
  • School Assoc meeting
  • Bed by 10.30pm

Wonder how much I'll get done
