We've got an outside loo which I discovered this morning is stained brown, nice. TBH our actual loo is a bit aswell as we don't flush every time. I've used bleach in the past and it doesn't cut the mustard. Thank you!

white vinegar.
try and empty as much water out of the bowl by forcing it round the ubend and pour an entire bottle of white vinegar into the bowl. leave over night and then flush. quick wipe with a loo brush for any lingering dirt and presto, white loo again.

4andnotout · 13/04/2010 12:03

I scoop out the water, pour in a bottle of White vinegar and then a kettle of boiling water and it's stainfree

DreamTeamGirl · 13/04/2010 12:24

Denture tablets will bleach it white, and are pretty eco.

But the staining is cos of limescale- the toilet isnt stained the limescale is so you need to get rid of the limescale for long term

Acid will break down the limescale so think vinegar, lemon juice, cheap or flat coke or a proper limescale remover- it all depends on how bad the limescale is really as to what level of acid you need

As heather & 4notout said the more water you can scoop out or force round the u bend before you start the better as you arent diluting the acid

Fizzylemonade · 13/04/2010 13:10

I have a small plastic cup that I scoop the water out of the toilet with, then I use a sponge to get the last drops out.

That way there is no diluting of the product you choose to use.

MadameCheese · 13/04/2010 14:23

Thanks very much that's great! Not looking forward to scooping out the water...

I don't do the scooping thing, tbh. For some reason I can always find something better to do... But I do pour the vinegar down anytime we are going away, whether for two days or two weeks, to give it a good long time to do it's thing. Then a major scrub with the loo brush.

If you dont fancy the scooping you can do it with your loo brush

Just 'plunge' with it and it forces the water round the u-bend and leaves you with an almost empty bowl

Good luck!!

Shaz10 · 13/04/2010 21:07

Get some long rubber gloves. You'll be fine.

Tiredmumno1 · 13/04/2010 23:07

And if that dont work have you tried sticking harpic power plus down it just this once (we wont judge leave for an hour and scrub. at least you wouldnt have to stick your hands down it

NoahAndTheWhale · 13/04/2010 23:12

Where do you get white vinegar from? Is it with vinegar or with cleaning products

heather1980 · 14/04/2010 08:10

with the vinegar. make sure it's white though as brown malt with stain the bowl brown!

MadameCheese · 14/04/2010 12:29

I've heard a good way clean off the limescale is to make a paste of borax and white vinegar and pack around the scooped out loo and leave to work for an hour or so.
Or totally chemical free you can scrub it with pumice stone (Aggy tells me)apparently they aren't abrasive enough to scratch the loo itself, but do remove the limescale.

NoahAndTheWhale · 15/04/2010 00:27

But which section is the white vinegar in

Shaz10 · 15/04/2010 08:10

I think it's with the normal vinegar.

Kathyjelly · 15/04/2010 08:17

You can get white vinegar in litre cartons from Aldi. In the vinegar section.
