If you take your shoes off at the front door what do you then store them on?

We have two shoe racks and I think they look very untidy and don't contain all the shoes we want to put on them anyway.

I want something that will hold lots of pairs of shoes, be tidy but be easy to use(i.e not fiddling about putting shoes in pockets or boxes with lids) and is cheap to buy.

What do you have?

We have a shoe rack in the boot room and in our old house it was in the under-the-stairs cupboard. Shoes and coats very unsightly when not on people

I've been meaning to take a trip to Ikea perhaps I should get my arse in gear and go there.

I have reserved this but am certainly not overwhelmed with it's beauty.

A boot room and a gun room? Geez, am obviously far too poor and common and live in a house too small and hovel like to even consider storing my shoes in anything other than old coal sacks.

we have a cupboard from argos that I have painted white and it has 5 shelves inside, the boys share a shelf, DH has a shelf and I have 3

We have open shelving from Ikea, the really cheap one, think it is called Ivar? Their flat storage things designed specifically for shoes wouldn't hold enough for us and I don't think would have fitted in the narrow gap in our hall. It does mean our shoes are on display but I don't think it looks bad and the hall is small so nobody lingers in there anyway.

But the rack is from Ikea and it all sounds posher than it is...

We all know the housekeeper was sent to Ikea to buy the shoe rack for you. She dusts it too.

We have a big seagrass basket with a lid. It was a toy basket but got relegated. If I can get the lid to shut it looks great.

I think I got three from Homebase for 29.99 a few years back.

Sonnet- they vary. The two drawer cheapy cheap beechy coloured oneone fits at least 4 pairs per drawer, and you can change the divider so you can fit fat shoes at one one side and skinny on the other.

The taller ones with 3 drawers I think are 2 pairs a drawer - they are shallower. If you are putting ballet flats in you will fit more in.

the cheap one, that fits 8 pairs, and the taller wooden one with 3 drawers are about 50cm wide. The ones with 4 drawers and the tall red metal ones are wider.

But it's the depth that matters, and that's 28cm. Which still might be too wide for you, Riven.

We've got these:
trones shoe cabinet. They are 3 separate boxes, lightweight, easy to keep clean and thin (only 18cm deep). No good for adult boots, or really big chunky bloke shoes (). I get 3 pairs of my shoes (adult size 5) in one box and lots of pairs of my little ones shoes

Old seagrass basket, no lid but looks ok to me and with 3 large DSs and lots of dirty trainers I would rather the air ciculated around them. 25 x 50 x 25cm approx.

We come in, kick shoes off and leave them in a heap on the floor. Once a week, our wonderful cleaning lady puts DD's on her little shelf and removes mine (except Uggs) to spare bedroom aka shoe room.

I'm not a natural housekeeper...

We have a pine settle.

Sometimes we can even shut the lid.
