Hi- Star - I'm floundering today, so am going to get off internet (reading all the blogs linked to Tea's, and I'm beginning to see stars) and do my Fledgling Flyers list.

Just wanted to add from today's evidence, you are so NOT lazy- don't where you got that idea from - just someone who likes to relax/enjoy when she relaxes and work hard when she works.

mC mine love board games, I hate them, dh loves playing with them (except when dd cheats whch she does q.often being a v. bad loser I do like Bridge though wish Icould find some fellow geriatrics to play with round here...

wendyhappysmile · 19/03/2010 14:59

hi all
quiet again
DD spent three solid hours playing with the Sylvanian families I have got her second hand ... almost worth the £50 I paid LOL. It's in pretty good condition and includes a big house with furniture, lots of furry people and three other buildings and a bus! She is spoilt really but she loves Sylvanian families!

Right feeling rotten with a cold. Trying to be a good mum today. have played Sylvanian bakery for an hour Now to play with DS too!

BB later

swanriver · 19/03/2010 16:09

hi - Wendy feeling a bit coldy too.
Dd's suitcase is packed for outward bound course with Brownies - I am in a state of course - thinking her sleeping bag will be too thin, or too hot, trousers suddenly turned out to be too grimy to pack, cue manic washing and drying.
Have got to stage where I will almost be relieved when she gets on the coach

Spent a lot of today, ironically, staring at Large Sylvanian Treehouse and longing to pass it on but not sure if they will suddenly say - Where's Our Treehouse. Ditto various Barbies and trainsets...

House a bit tidier, not really done what I wanted extra-curricularwise today. Hope we have a lovely easy w/e with just our two Los - it always feels like a holiday to have two (shouldn't say that)

Off to give dd some attention before she leaves.

scattyspice · 19/03/2010 18:15

SWAN big step for you and dd. Hope the seeing off goes ok

dylsmum1998 · 19/03/2010 21:04

Star yes I finished the assignment to realise i have my dates wrong its due next fri not today still at least its done as I know have 10 days to do the next one

Swan hope dd enjoys her trip how long has she gone for?

not done much flying as have been in uni. haad an interview yesterday, they said they would try and let me know between 3 &4 today, if not for def on monday. not heard anything yet so guessing I will hear monday.
have to prepare for another interview next Friday, this one is a little different to yesterdays- I have to prepare an activity to do with the children in their playtime. Not sure what to do yet. am thinking a bug hunt, or colour finding chart something along those lines. its for a small group but doesn't say age. Am assuming as they have a gtp for their joint reception/yr1/yr2 class it will need to be something for children in there.

ds and I are running the sport relief mile on sunday, little concerned as I still haven't shifted the chesty cough I've had for a fortnight that is making my asthma bad. Must go back to docs next week if it doent shift

wendyhappysmile · 19/03/2010 21:37

Ruby - that's good for you (and DD). Important to foux on what is right for her.

I just had a sleep . Feel a bit pants tbh.

dylsmum1998 · 20/03/2010 16:29

Ruby I agree with you, had I felt ds would have only passed through heavy tutoring I wouldn't have put him in for 11 plus. I just see it as if they need it to pass then they would struggle once they got there and for rewst of school. Was very worried if he didnt pass how it would effect his self esteem etc. I looked at his sats (i hate sats!) scores and based decision on that- along with the fact he wanted to go to the grammar school so overall decision was his whether or not he sat the test.

Some of the mums on his swimming lesson were shocked when I said he had passed without any tutoring, by a tutor or me. he did it off his own back as their children were tutored to get through the tests

Ruby - Luckily we have no grammar schools - but we have the dreaded points system for the Faith Schools. The parents are put to the test not the children.
All the tutoring goes on for private school entry.

Anyway now I've tried HE, there's always a bailout Having been to a very selective girls' school myself I know it doesn't guarantee perfect happiness or perfect academic success.

None of my dcs are like me anyway - I can't begin to know what they'll be good at.

Relaxing day, just been swimming with kids and bought 3 sewing mags on a whim [madness], restarted an artichoke tapestry I abandoned four years ago
and did some singing practice whilst dcs at a friend's.

Makingchanges · 20/03/2010 19:26

Evening all, I have a tummy bug and spent all day in bed trying to sleept while DH took DD out. I say trying cos a telemarketing company rung 10 times - I answered once and they kept ringing back. In the end I ignored it but then I couldn't get back to sleep. Feel like rubbish and completely wasted the day.

dylsmum hope you here good news on the interview on Monday and good luck on the Sports Relief mile tomorrow.

Hello to everyone else, back tomorrow

scattyspice · 20/03/2010 19:59

MC at the phone calls.
Dyl Good luck with the interviews.
Ruby I am at the pressure on kids at 10/11 (maybe I'm a bit naive). Neither of mine seem to be especially academic, esp DS (but then neither are Dh or me). I agree with you being content is far more important than having good exam results. You would hate her to go to a school where she faced a constant struggle to keep up, she would be miserable.

I am rapidly falling behind with the house work!

swanriver · 20/03/2010 20:09

Ruby more to the point she might get equally good exam results at a non-selective school in the end...

Anyway I think all their talent comes from US not their blooming schools...If you take lots of lovely children with lovely parents and stick them in one school tis not surprising that school has better results..those particular children may have done equally well on a individual basis at a different school.

dylsmum1998 · 20/03/2010 20:18

MC at the phone calls, my houseline is a nightmare for them 9/10 calls are telemarketing!

I didn't get the job I was interviewed for on thursday, got a letter to tell me this morning, nevermind there's still more

Dyls Could you call them and ask for feedback? Or would that not be the right thing to do?
RR It so nice when you & DH, come to the same decision. Dread this when it come to our turn. We do have a new community school going to built a short bus ride away from our house and DH seems very postive about it so we might not get into the tutoring, 11+ entrance exam yucky stuff. OR will we go for a bursry at the local private school Ha Ha ha Oh! it might be a very different political place by then!

wendyhappysmile · 20/03/2010 23:06

Blimey, glad that our local secondary is pretty good! Think you have reached a very sensible decision, Rubes
Night all

EVye · 21/03/2010 07:26

Re sales call, I am registered with the telephone preference service and no longer get any

Wolfcub · 21/03/2010 08:15

dyls I second the telephone preference service. Even if they do call they don't 'alf hang up quick once you tell them you're registered.

Need to go and start making some bread in a minute but just having a cuppa first

done
ds up, washed and dressed

dp sent back to bed.

dylsmum1998 · 21/03/2010 10:11

EV how do you get registered with the telephone preference service? definately something I want to join! I get stupid automated ones a lot too veyr annoying.

am up have done;
-moved all cluttered from living room and put it in empty wash basket to sort out to where it should go
-stripped dds bed
-recycling ot recycling bank
-rubbish out
-cleaned kitchen bin
-cleared out half of under sink cupboard, lots of out of date medicines etc in there
-breakfast

to do;

  • sort out trike i sold on ebay last night
-unload washer -load washer -put dinner on -wash up -empty wash basket full of stuff -fill basket full of stuff which doesn't belong in the bedroom -SPORT RELIEF MILE

seems a fairly nice day here so the run should be nice. so proud of ds for wanting to enter, not sure if he can run a mile but he is determined to give it a go, we'll make it to finish line even if we walk . we have £57 pounds worth of sponsorhsip to collect for him.

gonna go crack on and try and get much as i can done before we leave.

Oh bugger, ds's grandad was coming to watch and he just phoned someone is coming to view their house so he can't now. ds is a disappointed but understands.

Swan thankyou. we completed the run in 10 min 22 seconds, both very breathless by the end but agreed it was fun, so now on the lookout for more runs we can do together
