100% cotton girls bedding that ISN'T sugary pink - am I looking for the Holy Grail?

angelene · 29/01/2010 22:40

I'm doing up DD's bedroom and doing it in mainly white with bright pink strong graphic print stuff like the blind, light, etc etc. This is a compromise as I know that DD (4) would like it to be Barbie pink throughout

I'm trying to find some bedding to go with this, and it does need to be 100% cotton because DD has eczema and I just know that the 50/50 polycotton will bring her out in a rash.

It seems to be impossible. The nearest I've found is this but I still think it's too pale.

Can anyone help me find this apparent holy grail?

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 29/01/2010 22:59

Ikea are good for 100% cotton bed linen with strong colours/ graphic designs

sallyjaygorce · 29/01/2010 22:59

www.noolibird.com

(Sorry don't know how to link)

DD1 has the pink/lilac fairy print.

And www.funkybedrooms.co.uk

Aranea · 29/01/2010 23:01

I was going to say Ikea, too. I had almost given up on finding bedding for my dd which wasn't appallingly pink or branded, but Ikea had lots of nice things. She ended up picking a white set with fantastical drawings of circus people on it. It's lovely.

angelene · 29/01/2010 23:03

Thanks cookie, but I'm looking for something in cerise ideally. The Debenhams ones are all 50/50 polycotton too.

this is the blind so you can see what I'm going for.

Thanks ever so!

Oh right - aren't IKEA a bit poor quality in terms of the cotton though? They also don't have much on their website either.

I'm going to have to go down there, aren't I?

White & bright pink and 100% cotton on verbaudet

StillCrazyAfterAllTheseYears · 29/01/2010 23:08

I got DD a fab cerise duvet cover in Ikea. Have you looked at Vertbaudet? They have lots of strong colours.

Aranea · 29/01/2010 23:08

You're probably right, the cotton isn't especially lovely. But it seems to do the job OK

meep · 29/01/2010 23:09

matching sheets and pillowcases

Aranea · 29/01/2010 23:09

Oooh, good point about vertbaudet, I'm a huge fan of their stuff. They have gorgeous bedding.

cookielove · 29/01/2010 23:09

whoops read the wrong bit there, 100% cotton flowers eek!!

Love the verbaudet one

angelene · 29/01/2010 23:14

Oh that vertbaudet one is GORGEOUS, thanks meep! I'll have a good look through that site cos I hadn't looked there.

Aranea, DD STILL doesn't sleep brilliantly, and with her skin I am prepared to spend whatever it takes to get a good nights sleep for me her

I covet that duvet angelene - if you buy it let me know what it is like in real life !

CaptainNancy · 29/01/2010 23:19

DD has bedding from The White Company and Ikea- both 100% cotton, wash and dry nicely, both are white with embroidered details. The White Company bedding has a far superior thread count, and is delicious to snuggle up in, and very soft on skin (dd has eczema too). Quite expensive though.

Oh wow, the Vertbaudet stuff is stunning. Definitely a few things that I'll be getting. The French really know how to do this stuff properly, don't they.

Thanks meep - I'll let you know what it's like!

number 2 is completly wrong sorry didn't mean to put that in there

Mmmcoffee · 29/01/2010 23:24

John Lewis do a LOAD of 100% cotton bedding. Some nice bright colours too though they're not too great with childrens patterns.

this is the closest to your blind

angelene · 29/01/2010 23:32

Cookie - number 2 was actually my fall back position if I couldn't find anything else!

Thanks everyone, I'm off to bed and will sort this in the morning.

Night all

How about this 100% cotton pink and white duvet cover.

I've got to say, though, I really think no. 1 of cookie's suggestions just above is really cute - so my suggestion may be too grown up? We went for the navy blue and white option for our boys bedroom as I felt it might last a few years, style-wise!

There is also the option of a plain white duvet cover trimmed with pink gingham. This would look nice with the pink gingham fitted sheet. You could then get a cute bedspread / throw for over the top, then change the accessories (throw and cushions) in a few years as she grows up, to something more grown up?

Pannacotta · 30/01/2010 19:02

I bought simple, plain organic cotton sheets and duvet covers for the DSs as I couldnt find quite what I wanted for them (didnt want blue!) and added nice bedspreads which cover most of the bed anyway.

fairybubbles · 31/01/2010 07:42

Harry Corry sell 100% cotton and have a good range at very reasonable prices, see my thread Single Fitted Sheets.

Also have been told primark sell 100% cotton bedding. Imagine price wise would be reasonably cheap.

Like you I have my son sleeping in 100% cotton bedding due to exzema. I think it feels nicer as well, just a personal preference.

nellymoo · 31/01/2010 17:14

Plain cotton one and dye it?

Then get a nice thow, or eiderdown cover to go over the top?
