DS1 is actually gutted there is no scout camp LOL He LOVES Scout camp, the rougher the better for him! Survival Camp involves lots of stuff like shelter building, and surviving on army ration packs for the weekend! Obvioulsy though the snow was just a step too far, so re-sheduled for March...

Teatime. Well, I've just got in and it's started to snow as promised. But it's light London stuff, the city is so over crowded that the temp here is higher than anywhere around us (true) Tort Glad you got home in one piece. I only slipped once as I was wearing my work boots (glad that I couldn't be bothered to change on the 31st) I'm also not hurt as I have lots of padding Return trip better as it was pass lots of municipal buildings and those pavements have been gritted.
ALL Pls pray for HGV drivers. Talked to one that had his truck stuck in a side road near me,delivering to Wilkinson's. If he was on my return journey I would have invited him in for soup. I feel for his family. Hope he gets home safely.
OFM To tell the truth my Mum has been a great support.I couldn't do my job full-time & keep my sanity.
Hi, to everyone Must get on with various tasks I'm also going to do a tick thing on here (Why??? I don't know)

OverflowingMum · 08/01/2010 13:43

EVye · 08/01/2010 13:53

Thanks. I have just made the biscuits. I do have plenty of marg. Also got a divine recipe on the baking webchat:

EVye,

With your ingredients, this is what I'd make:

Chocolate chip marshmallow pancakes.

350ml milk, plus a little more
50g sugar
4 large eggs
125g plain flour
50g melted butter, plus extra butter for the pan
Chocolate chips and mini marshmallows

Beat the milk, sugar and eggs together, then beat in the milk and melted butter. Leave for 30 minutes then heat a frying pan with enough extra butter to barely cover the bottom with a thin layer of oil. Spoon some of the batter into the pan and swirl it around. Place the pan back on the heat, and when the top is barely cooked sprinkle on a spoonful of the chocolate chips and the marshmallows. Let it cook for 30 seconds then fold the pancake into four and leave it on a warm plate while you cook the rest. Serve warm, with ice-cream even better.

Blimey - cooking with kids is so stressful.

OverflowingMum · 08/01/2010 13:56

oh sounds yummy EV
Forgot I was going to do those Marmalde Muffins....and the chat....
slightly thrown by the prospect of returning to paid work....

EVye · 08/01/2010 13:56

overflowing - do i know you/your old nickname?

if the hours dont quite suit then see if you can talk them down to 50% rather than 60% for example. if it's right for you it will work out.

Starbear · 08/01/2010 13:57

OFM What will your hours be? Do you have to work weekends? Who could you get in to help? If you were waged could you get a cleaner/au pair? Who could you use in an emergency? DH has taken him to school with him but it was a one off and only for an afternoon. I have used my sister/nephew/ best friend in the past but that was easy as he wasn't going to school and could stay with them. Even taken ds into work to do case papers and hidden him behind a filing cabinet in the CID office (children in work are banned of course)

Starbear · 08/01/2010 13:58

EVye Little Bear would love that. I must go promise >

grouchyoscar · 08/01/2010 13:59

Ta for the thread Tea Glad TeaDad is staying put today. GroucyDad headed off this morning before sunrise. he won't be back til after 7. Great way to spend your 15th wedding anniversary

Hello ALL (no time for individual hodies sorry, read below for poor excuse)

Had a domestic drama today. I loaded and ran the WM, came home after the school slide (yep, I went AOT and landed on the 'pavement) to find the waste pipe for the WM had frozen and the WM had wee'd all over (and I mean all over the kitchen floor) Thing is, I'd invited the roadsweeper in for a brew. Had brew and when he left spent a straight 2.5 hours mopping up. 3 and a half mop buckets of water later I stagger into the front room to try and be ready for school slide #2

Major league mopping has set me back a lot as I was going to do a fair bit...ho hum Also working through my current Snow Patrol obsession by....ordering more CD I'll get past it. I've spent ages liking great bands and songwriters no one has ever heard of ever. Now one has gone supernova I'm shocked and having a crash course catch up It will pass and I'll have a few more CDs to cram on the shelves.

Enough of my musical ramblings...I have pizza dough to make

OverflowingMum · 08/01/2010 14:09

star wouldnt have to work weekends (gave up doing On-Call hours years ago LOL)but would have no-one in case of emergency- which has always been a bit of a stumbling block in the past....obviously DH has no flexibility to take days off when needed...so we were generally stumped by cases of illness/childcare failure etc...
Waiting to hear back exactly what the hours would be and how flexible....need to go ponder

GO gosh at WM pipe. Glad you have finished mopping. Steady as you go this afternoon....

TeaMonster · 08/01/2010 14:26

Well done OFM What a star

EV those pancakes sound fab

Wolf Blankets too or flese, then if your wheels are spinning tou can flick them under and get started on them, plus the more laters the better if you do get stuck!!

MadDad drove to to the nearest Aldi and in the 30 mins I was shopping 2 inches laid

It hasnt stopped snowing all day

Afternoon all

Well I am ill, Again. Have numbness in my hands and feet, a tingling in my lip and a numbness in my face, as well as S&D. Yuck.

Have had to call for reinforments and grandad been and taken DD to nursery and to his house afterwards. Therefore nothing done today except for feeling sorry for myself. Am off to Dr's this afternoon to get checked out.

Did manage to tidy out all DD's toys yesterday though and got a blck bag for charity (when DD was in bed as she won't part with toys and will never even notice these have gone) also tidied hall cupboard and have thrown out bags, shoes and coats was well impressed.

Off back to the settee. May be back later

swanriver · 08/01/2010 16:10

OFM - it's a difficult one re: work and no relatives nearby.

On the other hand money buys help, cuts corners, so I suppose you have to weigh up all the ways you can make life easier for yourself working when you have extra income - though I don't of course know your sit, and whether there would be money to spare, or just enough to make ends meet.
My friends who work do all or some of the following:

get part-time nannies to cook evening meal
get nanny to do loads of laundry/housework
send dcs to afterschool clubs
have a cleaner on Sat morning so they can supervise - say 2 hours of bathrooms and hoovering done by someone else

I have to say they are mildly stressed at least some of the time but then so are we are all...usually they love their work too.

swanriver · 08/01/2010 16:18

MC - sounds like neuralgia hope doctor diagnoses - what a lovely grandad to help out

Grouchy - that is something I never thought of either..must go and insulate the outer bits of the drain -- one way to do a flylady mopping mission - aargh on your behalf

Bread turned out delicious I have eaten most of it with ds2.
Soup made - for general use
lunch for tomorrow made [c/fwd cannelloni]
supper made - chicken and rice, dh is having aa curry he has bought forhimself

Oh also chopped some branches up for firewood very pleased with myself.
Xmas tree next on list for fuel pile.

swanriver · 08/01/2010 16:20

a curry not aa curry - he is not an alchoholic lol

OverflowingMum · 08/01/2010 17:14

afternoon all

ev I used to be galen in the dim and distant past LOL

swan yes, true, extra income could maybe pay for extra help...would need some form of childcare anyway...but maybe a couple of hours of cleaner once a week...(sighs, in idealistic way LOL)Mind you, I am going back as we could really do with the extra money so cant pay out too much or it becomes not worth while IYSWIM

anyway school run completed.
DD4 in FOUL mood
DH now home though, and is surprisingly cheerful ( think due to news of me being possibly vaguely employable LOL)so has taken over teatime chaos
now need to re-make beds...and reboot laundry, and tidy.....

BBL

scattyspice · 08/01/2010 17:31

Hi all.

MC hope you're ok. take it easy.
grouchy hope you're ok too, be careful out there!
OFM we have no family either and I have had to take unpaid leave from work when Dc poorly. Much less now they are older and get fewer bugs. Mine went to nursery (at hosp) but a childminder is probably a better option as they pick up fewer illnesses and CM will cope with minor bugs where nursery ban them at the slightest sniffle. Also CM can probably do before school and after school childcare for the others and will cover the whole going to school part time thing they do (nightmare for me). Less housework with everyone out all day , but difficult getting laundry done and shopping . Might be a good move long term even iff its difficult short term. Great that he wants you back .

Managed to get back from work, DS pulled dd and her friend home on the sledge (friend kept saying 'this is such fun' lol). Dh dug the car out and made it to Lidl (side ways he sadi) and bought masses of food .

BBl
