Morning all

Have abit to do today as when we came home yesterday I fell asleep and couldn't get motivated again so my list is

GET STUCK IN

I need a new matress for our bed, are memory foam any good?

Welcome back fairybubbles

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/01/2010 11:40

Morning everyone

Wasting that does sound lovely. What is a household manual? You aren't going all Fly on us are you?

Plum - we used to have a memory foam but found it incredibly hot, and it also had too much give in it. We have a pocket-sprung on which we love. It is very firm and the top layer is wool which helps to regulate body temperature. I am a bit OCD about anything to do with beds and bedding - sleeping is v.v.v.important!

DH is off for another job interview this afternoon. He is further along the process with 2 others as well, it's all getting a bit complicated and I just wish it was all done and dusted. There is a possibility we might have to relocate with one of them so I'm feeling a bit unsettled.

TODAY

ALi - good luck to your DH. I find the memory foam very hot too, and tbh i was quite happy with a normal mattress but DH finds it really helps his bad back.
And FIL is the same, they have a foam one at home and he ends up on the floor here as the spare bed is too soft. Well MIL finds it fine, but we can't have him sleeping on the floor and doing his back in.
And both sets of grandparents have kingsize (or bigger) whilst our spare is just a double so we've bought a kingsize with memory foam.

I was afraid the memory foam would be too soft, but that is not the case then?

At the minut we have a silentnight pillow top one, no roll together, and that is definitely the case it feel like there is abig mound between dh and I now so we need to get rid, I keep thinking its not that old but we got it when ds was a baby and hes 6.5 now

off to google

wastingaway · 18/01/2010 13:12

Ali - Fly?! Moi?! It is a bit actually.
I started it ages ago, from a thread on Moneysavingexpert.com.
It is supposed to be a centralised place to keep info and notes for the running of the household. I (allegedly) keep meanplans in there, the rubbish collection calendar for which bin to put out etc. and will be putting my Christmas Plan 2010 in there when I get round to it.
It always ends up buried under various piles of crap behind stuff so I can't find it, which is why I'm a Slattern!

Plum - i think you can get softer or firmer ones. The non-roll-together sounds strange! for people who definitely don't want cuddles in the night!

Yeap JKS it is wierd, I think it was supposed to stop one big dip in the middle of the bed now we have 2 and it really isn't comfortable, have been putting up with it for too long

Well I have got nothing done today,
well I got invoicing and some other stuff done but wanted to get lots more done so I will see how I fare after school run

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/01/2010 13:58

JKS - are you doing anything for DS2's birthday? So pleased for you that he'll be awake for it!

Plum - I found the memory foam one we had too soft, and we ended up with exactly what you describe, a hump in the middle and two dips. I think that was a Silentnight too. Ours is a Sleepeasy I think.

DH has just rung to tell me that MIL and S-FIL are coming on Friday night not Saturday morning which is what we had assumed. Eek!!! So I need to replan meals and generally be more organised than I thought.

Wasting that is incredibly organised!

Alicetheinvisible · 18/01/2010 14:21

Afternoon

I hope everyone is well? With the bed situation we got a nice mattress topper as we couldn't afford a new mattress, it is amazing!

Feeling bleugh today (more than usual) as DH was sick in the night (he is never ill) so hardly slept because worried about him, and then worrying that DD might be ill too.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed with the housework atm. Everywhere is a mess. Everywhere needs a good clean too. Although our house is usually cluttered and messy it is at least clean and clean smelling, but everywhere smells a bit musty and faintly of sick (although that could just be my super sensitive sense of smell)

What would you suggest i do? Get some flash cleaning wipes? Open all the windows, or just live with it until the nausea and ms has gone? Think i might try to get a timer in town tomorrow and do 5mins at a time.

cikecaka · 18/01/2010 14:31

Jolene2 · 18/01/2010 14:33

Afternoon all. Sounds as though you've all been v busy and productive. I have not been quite so productive, ahem

Ali - good luck to DH. Also with preparing for arrival of in-laws. Mine always arrive several hours earlier than invited, invariably when I am still in PJs (though mid cleaning frenzy )

Plum - we have pocket sprung mattress. I got it from Argos and it is amazingly comfortable. Our bedframe came from Alpha Beds, they do great beds and also cots and kids beds. They are in London but imagine they have a website

TO DO:

  • School dinner money forgot this morning....
  • Add comments to DS1's reading notebook done
  • Go to doctors done - going for more scans for poss PCOS and also poss hernia (joy)
  • collect prescriptions (including for cream for dealing with startling allergic reaction to aqueous cream)
  • Order Ocado shop done
  • clean cooker & kitchen surfaces done
  • washing up done
  • order weleda almond moisturiser and oil
  • ring mum & dad done
  • thank you note to friends we spent weekend with done
  • hoover hall, living room (done) , kitchen
  • make soup
  • 4th attempt at Shaun Sheep's sodding head
  • clean bathroom (part done, hampered by possible hernia. sigh)
  • Ask babysitter re looking after DS2 for 3 days next month so I can do keeping in touch days at work
  • Email boss re KIT days....
  • Post LoveFilm DVD back
  • Ring Carphone warehouse (done but no answer. Again)
  • when boys in bed, tidy dinosaurs/footballs/darth vader costume/assorted vehicles away

BIG THINGS TO DO

  • Start filing away paperwork (rather than all in several large bags)
  • Sort out childcare (ongoing....)
  • Start DS2's baby book
  • Last year's pics in albums
  • Some pics of DS2 in frames
  • Photos onto snapfish
  • clothes etc in loft
  • Find builder to sort out leak in ceiling
  • organise visit to Rome to see uni friend working there
  • organise family holiday, probably to sunny Scotland
JustKeepSwimming · 18/01/2010 15:30

A mattress topper would have been cheaper that's for sure!

No major plans for DS2's birthday really, DH taking the day off, DS1 will be in pre-sch for most of ds2's awake time so 3 of us may go out in the morning for something fun, then have cake either for party lunch or party tea.
Have got him 2 taggie blankets so far, and looking out for the Upsy Daisy bed toy (think Mothercare have it), also want a ITNG cake but Waitrose didn't have any, will try Asda tomorrow.

So very low key. Hopefully he'll do something new as a present for us instead!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/01/2010 16:05

JKS - that sounds lovely . Asda do cakes where you can take in a picture and they scan it onto a cake, so if they don't have an ITNG cake as such then you could get one done maybe.

Jolene - boo to the hernia, owww.

CC - glad you're feeling better, sounds horrid

Ali, it would be organised if I ever used the darned thing! I think the mealplan residing in there atm is from November, ie. the other time I've opened it in the last six months.

Fingers crossed for DH Ali!

CC, glad you're feeling better.

Alice, if you think the cleaning wipes would make it more pleasant to clean than cloths and spray/cream, then go for it! Just do a bit at a time.
I do bathroom cleaning while DS is playing in the bath. It means I only have to find special time to clean the bath itself, and it feels like I'm being efficient.

Pardon the very long list of little jobs, but I need to pat myself on the back today.

fairybubbles · 18/01/2010 17:36

Hi all,

Had busy working day, out the house from 7.30am-4.00pm and feeling v tired. Stayed up too late last night, my best friend has announced the date of her wedding and asked me to help her plan it so I was googling to all hours- not good idea on a sunday night!

Make dinner for me and DS- done
wash up from dinner- done
make packed lunch for tomorrow
hang up a load of washing
bath and bedtime routine for DS
spend 15 mins going through old clothes to give away
get DP to empty bins

Then relax with cuppa and watch corrie then to bed at reasonable time!

JustKeepSwimming · 18/01/2010 19:16

Ali - someone else said that about the picture but i think i've left it a bit late. There seems to be some weird copyright issue as nowhere has ITNG cakes but they have almost everything else. Doesn't matter, i think i will buy a plain chocolate cake then stick his ITNG figures on the top

Alice - whatever smell & work you can tolerate i would say. Lots of open windows should help though.

Mon:

  • tea x 3 (pasta) DONE
  • boys bath DONE & bed DS2Done

I'm afraid we are beyond matress topper,
think the no roll together is a silent night thing
think I'm going to go for Airsprung medium to firm???

JustKeepSwimming · 18/01/2010 19:50

Forgot to say i am feeling both virtuous & slatternly at the same time:

Decided to figure out how to change the over-oven lightbulbs, got cover off, found matching spare bulbs and changed them

Then looked at the cover...loads of dead flies in it

Then scrubbed the cover in boiling water and is now sparkling
