So how many of you wash at 30 degrees now?

It's global warming people and we're all supposed to wash our clothes at 30 degrees now, not 40 or 60.

But do you do it?

I only started recently, and I was quite surprised to ind that the clothes still got clean. My neighbor admitted to over filling the machine and boiling everything and it just made me feel that I had to do my part ;)

I do still wash mine and DHs bed linen at 60 as he has dust mite allergies.

I would but my washing machine is somewhat ancient and doesn' have a 30 degree setting so the coldest I can manage is 40.

Mine has 2 settings - hot and cold
I 'fess to using "hot" (mostly) but I never wash on the longest program, so do my bit with that.

I do. I only ever use the 30 degrees quick wash cycle on my machine. You can't change the temperature on that programme.

I've tried but things just don't come out clean enough. Mud and food stains particularly.

I do... no difference in cleanliness as far as I can see.

I do, though nappies go on at 60 with other bits and bobs to fill up the machine ...

Now all I need to do is train everyone not to put worn but clean clothes in the washbaskets.

I do treat stains with a bit of washing up liquid first though.(great for grease or food stains)

After our machine broke so would wash but without heating the water at all, we realised that most stuff got clean in cold water! In the US they have 15 degree washes.

We have a water softener, so only use 1 washing tab & 30 degree wash for everything except the dog towels.

I always use 30 unless I am washing sheets, towels or very stained items. All stains come out with a bit of washing-up liquid.

I still wash at 40. The spin isn't as quick on the 30 cycle so the clothes come out wetter and take more drying. I guess in the summer I could wash at 30 and probably will do, but this time of year I need them as dry as possible to start with.

my machine doesn't go down to 30 degrees.

I do some washes at 30°, but more often 40° - it depends on the state of the clothes going in, and some (quite possibly flawed) logic that when ds1 and/or ds2 have wet themselves (again) a 40° wash is better.

i do most stuff on 30...honestly don't notice the difference if i do it hotter...

dark undies, socks and jeans 60
light shirts and t shirts 30
Bedding 40 or 60 degree
whites 40 degree
quick freshen up between 'proper'washes 40 degree

Machine maintenance 90 degree

the odd handwash item goes on at 30

apart from smelly gym gear, that i still do at 40 or even 60.

My new machine does a 15 degree wash and I bought that fancy shmancy liquid (ariel?) to try it today and it has washed really well. Don't think I will do towels, bedding and OH smelly work clothes but good for stuff that isn't truely dirty.

normally 40, but some whites go on 60, but thats not often.

30 for general coloureds if not stained too much, 40 for whites if stained (plus a dollop of Vanish), 60 for sheets and towels, and 90 once every 6 weeks or so for the shower curtain with half a bottle of Value vinegar to get the hard water marks off it and descale the machine a bit at the same time

I do - except for towels and bedlinen which go in at 50 (or 60 when I feel like splashing out ).

Never. I never will. Am very environmentally friendly otherwise but I'm afraid I want my clothes to be clean.
