ds has just been sick all over the carpet ive scooped most of it up but how shall i clean the rest without rubbing it into the carpet even more. Ive sprayed vanish on it and now have a horrible sickly sweet smell mixed in with the sick smell yuuuuukkkkkk. I want to open the windows but its so cold!

You've got to get all the bits up, or it'll stink no matter what else you do. Once it's just a damp patch you want warm water and bicarbonate of soda and give it a good scrubbing.

I tried a combination of talc, hoovering, carpet freshener, hoovering and then finally bicarbonate of soda and hoovering when ds2 vomited on my brand new carpet.

It might work for you too. The smell did go eventually.

Ah thanks but do you make a solution with the bicarb or do i just rub with warm water and then sprinkle bi carb and hoover up???

Once you've got the carpet clean, I'd put on a good thick layer of bicarbonate of soda and leave it overnight. Hoover it up in the morning. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Poor you, it's a horrid job.

white vinegar is excellent for removing odours. dilute it 50:50 with water and flush the area with the solution. then put towels on top and jump up and down! i'd probably repeat the process to make sure the smell was absorbed.

this will make your room smell like a chippy while you are doing it, but as soon as it dries the vinegar smell goes and you are left with a fresh, neutral smell.
