So how many pairs of trainers can I wash in machine at once?

Any ideas? Have a pile of trainers that DS has grown out of and I want to give them to an orphanage here but they could do with a wash first.

Should I put them in with something else?

i'd say two big old towels, for cushioning the drum a bit, and however many you can fit without being too squashed.
