Can you recommend me your wonderful washer/dryer? (or not as the case may be)

We've finally decided to get rid of our crappy old Hotpoint which has broken loads of times and no longer has its dryer function. I don't want Hotpoint!

But I do like its multi settings and the fact that it has a handwash option, and you can change the temperature on any setting etc - it's easy to use.

Sooo if you have one that's great (or shitey and to be avoided) please tell me about it...

I have a Bosch, it's ace.
I think most folk on here will say Bosch or Miele.

I have never known anyone with a washer/drier that has been relaible- but there could well be.

we bought a Miele washer after our 20 yr old Zanussi finally packed up.
The Miele is guaranteed for 10 years but J Lewis said that unofficially they should last 20 years.

It cost £800 but in the 4 years we have had it, my neighbour has had her washer - think it's a Hotpoint or something for around £250- repaired 3 times.

it's very quiet, has loads of porgrames including weighing the wash for you so it adjusts the time and the amount of water used, and has a honeycomb drum which cuts down on wear and tear of clothes.

You get what you pay for i think.

Ooh shiny does it do handwash and stuff like that? And do you remember how much it was?

All our washer/dryers have been shite.

Most recent was Whirlpool and it was really shite, we bought a Beko washing machine to replace it and an Indesit dryer... no way would i ever go back to washer/dryer as they don't work... they wash badly, they don't dry, they have tiny load capacities... awful, awful, awful contraptions.

Miele without doubt. First time we have ever owned our own washer and dryer as we have always rented houses with cheaper machines.

DW loves the new machines. She will not let me near them though. .

I wanted Miele but couldn't afford one and AEG was 2nd on the Which rating list hence the purchase!

I found the Miele to small for me as I need the bigger drums for the duvets as I still have a bed wetter here. Also needed it for the family of 9 here the now.

Washer/dryers are a bit naff had one years ago and it went on fire eekkk!!!!!! So never ever got another one.

I've got a Zanussi, and it's very reliable - you can change the temperature and spin speed settings on any wash, though only "down", not "up" - presumably because you'd pick a rougher wash if it was up to the higher temp/spin anyway.

Had a Hotpoint before that, and it was dreadful for reliability.

Thanks for the new replies - will talk to DP about just getting a quality washer. We've done fine for a couple of years without the dryer, but now I'm pregnant and I remember I did use it a lot with a newborn... and we have nowhere to put a separate dryer. (OTOH we might move house - but that's another thread...)

Another vote for quality washer here, had tons of trouble with old washer/dryer breaking down and in the end gave up using dryer element, also I think the running costs can be higher with a combined machine as it is harder to get an AAA rated one?

We have a water meter which influenced choice of new washing machine, it's a Panasonic I think it is this one and so far we are very happy with it.
