is it powder or liquid that makes it worse?

Have soaked in bleach ,scrubbed with brush and poked into dark smelly orifices with cloth .

It is now in the dishwasher....life is too short for this kerfuffle.

What is the answer housekeeping gurus?

But what do you do then if you've got a bloody integrated washing machine right in your kitchen? I do leave it open as much as I can but it's a pain.

No way I am going down that route Zippy !

ZippysMum · 10/08/2009 15:24

Hmmmm. Don't know then.

Surely a barked shin every so often is a small price to pay for fragrant washing and that Martha Stewart feeling?

Oooh - Or maybe leave it open at night?

We're lucky - we have ours in the utility room so only the dogs keep walking into it.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 10/08/2009 15:29

All right Zippy you've sold it to me and I will go and do it right now!!
I do leave it open at night actually and during the day when it doesn't bother anybody. Not impressed with integrated tbh. I think I will start using the much better one in the garage which will save me from all this extra cleaning malarky!

thanks for all your tips.

now, how do I get off this sofa and off the internet????

It is an ongoing battle to keep the drawer clean.

I do a 90 degrees wash every couple of weeks with nothing in. Sometimes I put a good slug of white vinegar in.

I use liquid but in the plastic ball thingie straight into the machine.

I find the fabric softener draw gets gunky in mine. Did try not using softener but DS moaned. I hate using the dryer so went back to softener.

Pull drawer out every few weeks and stick in dishwasher.

I found that if I do it every couple or weeks or at least once a month it is easy to keep clean.

Okay, according to washing machine repair man:

  • once a month do a 90 degree wash with some bleach in the drum.
  • ALWAYS after you've done a load, keep the door ajar, tip any remaining water from the drawer out into the sink and leave the drawer ajar about an inch. This will help air to circulate in the washing machine and stop mold/mankiness.
