hes 3.he actually started potty training not the last xmas but the one before(aged 2),he wanted to,i didnt.he did brilliantly until april that year when his beloved granny died and never got back on track.we tried to go back into nappies because he'd just gone back to square one but he wanted pants.we'll have a good week ,a bad week etc.

tried telling him hes too big for the potty,he has older brother and sister so i thought would encourage him but sometimes he prefes tiolet sometimes not.weve tried star charts etc but hes not interested.so im used to the smell of wee(im not but i pretend) and piles of wet pants to wash.

Have you tried giving him a chocolate button if he wees in the right place? I know some people don't approve of out and out bribery such as that, but it worked for all 4 of mine.

Also, it is only wees that end up in his pants? 2 of mine had the same problem with poos and that was a nightmare!

cheesesarnie · 19/07/2009 15:59

yes im thankful its only wees.yep tried chocolate buttons-think it may have been you who suggested it before.worked for a little while but as with everything he got bored with it!

Oh just give it a swill out under the garden tap and chuck the washings out on the flower beds and then bung it in the dishwasher.

Put it on the highest temperature setting and it should be fine.

Hell, I have been up to my armpit in the faeces of virtually every species and only washed my hands afterwards before I ate my tea. I'm sure a potty is fine to eat out of after being in the dishwasher.

Trikken · 19/07/2009 16:11

im sure someone else did it recently on here and it melted or went funny, (not that i wouldnt try it tho if ds's was really dirty)

Will you be happy to eat off plates from the subsequent washes ..... Honestly chuck it and make him use the loo if he won't use the other potty

FourArms · 19/07/2009 18:15

I dishwashed my one - it was one of the three stage ones that are a loo seat, toilet step and potty all in one. It was fine. And cleaner than ever!!! It wasn't dirty with poo, it was just the thought that germs could be trapped in the hinges etc. Washed it before ebaying, and it sold for about £12, so well worth it!

TigerDrivesAgain · 19/07/2009 18:18

O M G

I am never EVER going to eat anything in anyone else's house ever again.

This is a joke, isn't it. People don't really put potties/bog brushes etc etc in the dishwasher?

Do they? [hopeful emoticon]

regwithanamechange · 19/07/2009 18:20

The potty is quite likely to be damaged by the dishwasher heat. Don't do it!

tearinghairout · 19/07/2009 18:23

I put an old-fashioned ceramic potty in the dishwasher once, and regretted it, a) because I then didn't want to eat off the dishes it might have 'contaminated' and b) because it now has loads of hairline cracks - obviously not 'dishwasher-safe'!

whomovedmychocolate · 19/07/2009 20:53

Is it white? Discoloration of white plastic is generally caused by light damage - in which case it's not going to improve by putting it in anything to clean it.

cheesesarnie · 21/07/2009 10:00

you'll be happy to know i didnt do it!decided that if i found the idea of tiolet brush in dishwasher(bleurgh)then im not doing the potty.

How about soaking it in some flash spray with bleach? that brings things up quite bright.

In the dishwasher.... Well on its own OBVIOUSLY I spose why not. Not something I would think to do.

I dont put my cat bowls in because the have a lip and just come out full of water underneath and have to be rinsed anyway.

OnlyWantsOne · 21/07/2009 22:47

chuck it in, the dish washer will kill all the germs, dont worry -

if things in my house dont go in the washing machine or the dish washer - they go in the bin
