oil finish oak furniture

I am contemplating some oak furniture for my dining room probably a side board and side table - have narrowed it down to ranges from next, John Lewis or Laura Ashley but they are mostly oil finished -how high maintenance are they? I am still at the mercy of little sticky fingers -any one any experience-and any one know of any suppliers who do nice oak furniture cheaper than these High st shops?

NOt high maintanence atall.

Every now and again I rub on some linseed oil.

If you go for Laura Ashley, buy in the sale as it'll be about 1/2 price.

Thanks for that I am still at the contemplation stage -need to get peace to study the various catalogues-before making final decision.
