quick hello all
mad sorry new meds didnt work out. Feeling out of it due to meds is really a no go when you have little ones.Hope Psych can suggest alternative for you

tiger gosh sounds bad yesterday. Take it easy today*swan yes forms now back in envelope awaiting next step....just getting stressed at timeticking away...

Anyway back from seeing DD teacher and feel a bit sad. DD apparently not difficult at school ( I knew that already) and does as told etc... also she does have friends and plays well with others which w a relief to hear. But she is fairly significantly behind in other areas such as reading and writing. Struggles a lot with pencil control, and hearing phonics sounds etc...also poor number recognition etc.. Teacher is lovely though, said it could just be that she is very young (not 5 till end of July) and not to panic too much just yet. They will keep an eye on her next year and if still worried by Christamas will request outside assessment/support for her.She doesnt have any meltdowns at school though...that is obviously something she saves for home, but I wonder if she is struggling all day at school maybe the meltdowns are a release of all her frustration.I can just sense there is something not quite going to plan with her development though. I really hope she picks up , but am somehow not optomistic. It is horrible cause I had a long, complicated, bad birth with her and cant get rid of the idea that that is somehow connected to her problems developmentally.Makes me feel rsponsible

Right off for quick cuppa. Havent sorted dinner yet...so will be chaos after school...

hopefully BBL

Hi again

Galen - she sounds just like ds (who is also one of the youngest in his class). He continues to find language difficult and gets help at school (slow learners group). Prof talks much sense.

Shanna - hope you are ok. Yesterday sounds horrible.

laurasmiles · 17/06/2009 15:55

Hi all,

Poor you Galen - we mums always take it all on our shoulders don't we? I wish we lived in a country where they didn't start school so early and that children were allowed more freedom before we started to monitor and assess them. It's my biggest bug bear and I think lots of children find it hard if they start to feel behind. But it doesn't sound like that's the case as she's happy at school. So, just remember all the geniuses who were late bloomers, as it's far better to have established good social skills first, and it sounds like she's been busy doing that and probably isn't too interested in 'number recognition'!
As for the tantrums - they just know who they feel safest with and sve the best for us to deal with!!
Sorry you're feeling down. Hope things feel better soon. L x

laurasmiles · 17/06/2009 16:01

The day here is going reasonably well. dh has taken my two off swimming so I'm going to take a cheeky lie dwon and then screech through the rest of my list like a whirlwind!!!

Very of people's holidays. It sounds exciting and it's so nice to have that to look forward to.

TMH yukky meds. I hope they sort your dosage out soon.

Shannara Ouch! Sorry to hear about your fit and the bumpy route down. Take it easy on that knee - no brake dancing!

Hope all of you are doing fine. Sorry - the bed is calling!!

dylsmum1998 · 17/06/2009 16:24

SimplyIsATalentedBuzzard · 17/06/2009 16:46

Hello to all. I've got back from work and shopping and have just had a nice cup of tea whilst reading this thread.

Good advice to those needing it and sorry to hear of your injuries shanna. I'm not familiar with your background but do you have a button to press (or for the children to press for you) to get you help if you need it? Did your dh know to come home at that time or was it a co-incidence? I'm only asking as I'm familiar with what in my work place are called lone working arrangements and that covers someone who may have a fit, is diabetic, working with potentially dangerous machinery or anything that means that it's beneficial to either have them not working alone (out of the office, I mean) or to have a buddy system whereby they contact their buddy every half an hour or whatever time in order to check in. If they fail to do that then the buddy can follow the set out procedure to check on them and get them help if necessary. Sorry if you know all this.

Right. I am going to see what I can do in the next half an hour before I need to go out. See you later!

swanriver · 17/06/2009 16:53

Galen, glad the teacher was so supportive. Just keep remembering she is very very little in the educational and emotional scheme of things, and probably just exhausted by the pace. I STILL think of my seven year olds as my babies and feel very protective and even resentful when they are put under pressure. Dd has suddenly learnt to read in last 3 months (aged 6/7)but before that she was really floundering. Whereas both dss just streaked ahead. It wasn't anything I did or didn't do, she was just better at other things.

Hello Laura nap
Shannara, I hope you got your nap, and feel better, sounds absolutely frightening. Glad your dh came in.

EHM, house

Done
Library help pm
Just got back from steamy park

Need to cook supper
Go to Scouts and fill in form beforehand and find NI no
violin practice urgently for dd and ds1

TheMadHouse · 17/06/2009 17:23

galen I can only echo what everyone else has said regarding development , but I feel your pain over traumatic births and preganancies causing issues in your childre.

I still blame DS1's chest issues to the fact I had to have emergency surgery at 20 weeks pregnany, was sick through out the hole preg too.

I was also unwell with DS2 and thought that was why he had bowel issues.

I think being a mum makes us feel responsible (well we are really) for our children, but I also say that they are 50% DH, just unfortunate they got the bad bit of me.

DS2 has been melting down again Wolf I can understand almost calling an ambulance. He made himself sick this time and then withheld until he passed out - scame too screaming and has only just stopped (50 mins in total). Most of this was outside, all because he wanted to stay in "the Bloody car" . He has a massive egg on his head where he has banged it in furey.

I have only just managed to get in and dinner on

Shana I hope that you are taking things easy today - like simply says do you have a plan????

I have read the rest, but am strugling - I will be back later

galen · 17/06/2009 18:17

hello all
thanks for all the lovely messages and words of wisdom...you do all talk much sense!
She is very young...wont be 5 till Jul 27th so really only made it into her year by about 6 weeks....it does make a difference at that age doesnt it....she is almost a year younger than the oldest girl really...We will just have to see how she goes.I have managed to arrange a hearing test for her on Fri though as that is something we wondered about before, and her teacher said she had a lot of trouble hearing sounds in words...so at least that is one thing we can check on...

other than that not much flying done...house not too bad though, need to do some laundry catch up
sausage and rice dish turned into sausage and mas and veg...not doing well with meas this week
going to chill tonight ...soft play tomorrow (it's raining again...sigh)
Have good evenings all..

galen · 17/06/2009 18:21

oh bum DD1 in apprentice teenager mode now having major confrontation with DH....shes arguing with me, and now apparently "we're all stupid"...gotta go

TheMadHouse · 17/06/2009 18:22

galen it is a quarter of her life she is younger by!!! If you look at it that way it is easy to see the disadvantages of only one school admission and a year for a little one

DS2 will be the same

He wore himslef out with the tantrum and has just scoffed fish, potatoes and peas and then ate all my peas and most of my fish too Obviously very hungry work having a melt down.

Galen - There is a such a huge difference in reception. If your DD is a 'young' 4 and she has some 'mature 5's in her class then the difference may seem more like 18 months. Give it some time. Get the rest of her siblings to help you make learning fun again. Lots of board games over the summer holidays.

TMH - sorry you're not feeling great. You have so much to contend with.

operation Guinea Pig going well. DDs have both stroked them and they seem to like wandering around dd1s room lots.

swanriver · 17/06/2009 21:45

We've had the usual Wednesday topsy turvy eve, finally got everyone to bed late(had to sep the dsses)
Reading Little House on Prairie (at last, my favourite book ever, Thank you God) to dd and gave dh some supper for which he was suitably grateful

Lovely summery feeling in the air, thundery but balmy, visiting cats wandering in and out.

Now
unload dw
write addresses in
fill in form as I've found my NI no
curtain
wash up various frying pans
Hang out washing from this morning

Starbear · 17/06/2009 22:13

Hi everyone, just pop-in after a little studying.
dylsmum My course basically 'how to interview vulnerable witnesses' I'm getting tense as there is a written exam at the end and I haven't done a exam in years I'm not a very good speller
I had to swap my day off on Friday for tomorrow. It's going to be a packed working day so I'm going as much done at home tomorrow as possible for the following week.
Mad On here you come across as a very together person. Hope they can get you the right meds.
Good night, everyone see you in the morning.

littleboyblue · 18/06/2009 07:45

Hi all.
I am truely rubbish at keeping up with you lot
Just to let you know, I'm still doing my best with FLYing, depending on dp's work schedule. I check the FLY website every morning for that day's missions etc and do if I can. Also still doing routines and place is looking good.
By the time I get back on here in the evening, there are 40 odd posts!! Always too tired to read most of them sorry.
xxx
