nope, not here. My DS is the one in the playground with a curly collar on his polo shirt. can't be arsed, never have either.

Trikken · 03/06/2009 10:57

Me neither, I would but i am spectacularly rubbish at it. Everything comes off more creased then when I started. Dh does his own if he needs it done, but generally he doesnt either.

canella · 03/06/2009 10:58

no ironing here either!! we move into a new house at the beginning of March and since dh doesnt need to wear proper shirts for work, i've not ironed once since we moved!

oh i lie - i've ironed dd's hamma beads!! does that count?

hongkongzoe · 03/06/2009 10:59

Don't even own an iron.

flier · 03/06/2009 10:59

me neither. dh does his own ironing and anything else that "really" needs doing

craftynclothy · 03/06/2009 11:00

No clothes ironing (dh does his own shirts). I had to ask him where we kept it when a relative was staying and wanted to use it .

I do a little bit now but all craft stuff (setting fabric paints, pressing seams etc.).

KirstyJC · 03/06/2009 11:03

DH has always ironed his own shirts, now he does DS1s school shirts too. I only iron if I want to wear something that is still wet!

Why my sister spends several hours a week doing something she hates is beyond me - all clothes get crumpled when you wear them anyway! My grandma used to iron pants and socks for god's sake!?!

TsarChasm · 03/06/2009 11:06

Where did you all find men who iron their own shirts then? I want one.

MrsPigeon · 03/06/2009 11:06

i don't iron either, don't see the point most of the time. My mother irons everything - bed linen, towels, even tea towels fgs! So when she comes to stay I iron the pillowcases on the spare bed as a special effort (if I can find iron ).

iwouldgoouttonight · 03/06/2009 11:25

I iron everything, even socks and pants. Oh no, sorry, I am confusing myself with my mother. She seems to be ironing all the bloody time!

I very rarely iron any of my clothes, DP irons himself a shirt if he needs one. I've got a pair of trousers which crease so much they don't reach my ankles if I don't iron them, so I don't wear/wash them very often

When I started maternity leave and was waiting for due date I decided to iron the duvet cover. It took hours! I'm not making that mistake again.

Where do people find the time to iron everything, you'd be doing it constantly?

Bobblebuddy · 03/06/2009 11:31

I iron on a 'need-to-wear' basis

MachuPicchu · 03/06/2009 11:35

DP irons his own shirts, I iron anything that's creased like Bobblebuddy on a 'need-to-wear' basis. My friend irons her sheets and I have to admit it looks and feels lovely but I haven't got the time or the inclination.

CatIsSleepy · 03/06/2009 11:36

i did some ironing the other week-think it was the first time in a year or so. And i ended up staining dd1's duvet cover when some water dripped out of the iron so I kind of wished I hadn't bothered.

i do like bedlinen but really can't be arsed

CatIsSleepy · 03/06/2009 11:37

ironed bedlinen that should say...

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 03/06/2009 11:37

I had never ironed or owned an iron until about 18 months ago, when somebody gave me their old one when they got a new one, and until then I thought all our clothes looked ok.

Pah, now I realized they looked like shit, and now I iron loads.

I love ironing , it's like meditating, very zen.

wastingmyeducation · 03/06/2009 12:09

Tsar, if you just don't iron their shirts they have to.

midnightexpress · 03/06/2009 12:12

I loathe ironing and very rarely do any at all. Worst thing (in fact only bad thing) about using clothes line instead of tumble drier in summer is that the clothes are crispy and crinkled afterwards, and were I less of a slattern I would iron them. As it is however, my children go to nursery all crisp and crinkled.

Weegiemum · 03/06/2009 12:18

My dh has managed to get a fairly good collection of work tops that require neither tie nor ironing! He's figured out he can stick his jacket (tweed! He's a country GP after all!) over a plain black polo neck and it looks fine.

Last time I got the iron out we were going to a wedding. Dd2 (who was coming up 5 at the time) said "mummy, what's that funny long thin table for?"

duchesse · 03/06/2009 12:19

Me! I cannot see the point.

We shake everything before hanging it on the line, which gets most of the crinkles out, then give them 5 mn in the drier after bringing them in to really dry them (damp clothing put away damp and developing mould is a serious bugbear of mine) which smooths them very well. If my husband's shirts need more smoothing, I pay my cleaning lady to stay an extra hour every so often to do a load of them.

Bobblebuddy · 03/06/2009 13:09

"strategic drying" - that is all you need. no iron required..

I don't unless it's for a special occassion. I just fold as soon as they come off the line; generally they are okay as lots of fabrics nowadays don't really need it.

cornflakegirl · 03/06/2009 13:19

I changed job last year, to one that required me to wear a suit. DH bought me some shirts that looked lovely - till I washed them. After drying they looked like dishrags. I'm sure they'll look fine when I've ironed them - but I really can't be bothered to find out. Must get round to ebaying them or something.

Bubbaloo · 03/06/2009 13:21

I ironed a shirt for dh last weekend, before we went out and that has got to be the first time in about 15 years.I don't iron anything.Saying that,he doesn't wear shirts for work and our clothes honestly don't get creased. However,I may start ironing in Sept as ds1 starts school.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 03/06/2009 13:22

DH irons his work shirts.

I iron my linen trousers. I think that is it. DS seems to have managed fine at school for a year and a bit without being ironed.
